| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The section mismatch warning can be easy to miss during the kernel build process. Allow it to be marked as fatal to be easily caught and prevent bugs from slipping in. Setting CONFIG_SECTION_MISMATCH_WARN_ONLY=y causes these warnings to be non-fatal, since there are a number of section mismatches when using allmodconfig on some architectures, and we do not want to break these builds by default. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Module symbols have a limited length, but currently the build system allows the build finishing even if the driver code contains a too long symbol name, which eventually overflows the modversion_info[] item. The compiler may catch at compiling *.mod.c like CC xxx.mod.o xxx.mod.c:18:16: warning: initializer-string for array of chars is too long but it's merely a warning. This patch adds the check of the symbol length in modpost and stops the build properly. Currently MODULE_NAME_LEN is defined in modpost.c instead of referring to the definition in kernel header because including linux/module.h is messy and we must cover cross-compilation. The exclusive line state keeps rotating among contenting cores leading to a never ending cycle. So break the cycle by deferring the retry of failed exclusive access (SCOND). The actual delay needed is function of number of contending cores as well as the unrelated coherency traffic from other cores. To keep the code simple, start off with small delay of 1 which would suffice most cases and in case of contention double the delay. Eventually the delay is sufficient such that the coherency pipeline is drained, thus a subsequent exclusive access would succeed. This however forces the cacheline into exclusive state (because of the ST) and concurrent loops in multiple cores will bounce the line around between cores. Instead, use LLOCK/SCOND to implement the atomic test and set which is better as line is in shared state while lock is spinning on LLOCK The real motivation of this change however is to make way for future changes in atomics to implement delayed retry (with backoff). Initial experiment with delayed retry in atomics combined with orig EX based spinlock was a total disaster (broke even LMBench) as struct sock has a cache line sharing an atomic_t and spinlock. The tight spinning on lock, caused the atomic retry to keep backing off such that it would never finish. This chip includes ARM7 core, and loads and runs program. The firmware is stored in on-board memory and loaded every powering-on from it. Echo Audio ships several versions of firmwares for each model. These firmwares have each quirk and the quirk changes a sequence of packets. As long as I investigated, AudioFire2/AudioFire4/AudioFirePre8 have a quirk to transfer a first packet with 0x02 in its dbc field. This causes ALSA Fireworks driver to detect discontinuity. In this case, firmware version 5.7.0, 5.7.3 and 5.8.0 are used. Drivers can set it with a preferred value according to model's quirk. So technically there's no need for a driver to export the OF table since currently it's not used. In fact, the I2C device ID table is mandatory for I2C drivers since a i2c_device_id is passed to the driver's probe function even if the I2C core used the OF table to match the driver. And since the I2C core uses different tables, OF-only drivers needs to have duplicated data that has to be kept in sync and also the dev node compatible manufacturer prefix is stripped when reporting the MODALIAS. To avoid the above, the I2C core behavior may be changed in the future to not require an I2C device table for OF-only drivers and report the OF module alias. So, it's better to also export the OF table to prevent breaking module autoloading if that happens.
