| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch allows the user to fault in pages on a virtual cpus address space for user controlled virtual machines. Typically this is superfluous because userspace can just create a mapping and let the kernel's page fault logic take are of it. There is one exception: SIE won't start if the lowcore is not present. Normally the kernel takes care of this [handle_validity() in arch/s390/kvm/intercept.c] but since the kernel does not handle intercepts for user controlled virtual machines, userspace needs to be able to handle this condition. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch introduces two ioctls for virtual cpus, that are only valid for kernel virtual machines that are controlled by userspace. Each virtual cpu has its individual address space in this mode of operation, and each address space is backed by the gmap implementation just like the address space for regular KVM guests. KVM_S390_UCAS_MAP allows to map a part of the user's virtual address space to the vcpu. Starting offset and length in both the user and the vcpu address space need to be aligned to 1M. KVM_S390_UCAS_UNMAP can be used to unmap a range of memory from a virtual cpu in a similar way. The only valid modifier bit for now is KVM_VM_S390_UCONTROL. This requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges and creates a user controlled virtual machine on s390 architectures. The problem was that when GFS2's fallocate operation tried to acquire an "allocation" it made sure the rindex was up to date, and if not, it called gfs2_rindex_update. However, if the file being fallocated was the rindex itself, it was already locked at that point. By calling gfs2_rindex_update at an earlier point in time, we bring rindex up to date and thereby avoid trying to lock it when the "allocation" is acquired. In a nutshell, iommu users are not expected to provide the omap_iommu handle anymore - instead, iommus are attached using their user's device handle. omap-iommu-debug is a hybrid beast though: it invokes both public and private omap iommu API, so fix it as necessary (otherwise a crash is imminent). Note: omap-iommu-debug is a bit disturbing, as it fiddles with internal omap iommu data and requires exposing API which is otherwise not needed. It should better be more tightly coupled with omap-iommu, to prevent further bit rot and avoid exposing redundant API. Naturally that's out of scope for the -rc cycle, so for now just fix the obvious. Our LDM implementation generally assumes that each VBLK is contiguous in memory, so these fragments must be assembled before further processing. Currently the reassembly seems to be done quite wrongly - no VBLK header is copied into the contiguous buffer, and the length of the header is subtracted twice from each fragment. There's a better patch series being worked on by Kevin Winchester which will solve this in a cleaner fashion, but that series is too ambitious for v3.3 merging - so we first queue up this trivial fix and then do the rest for v3.4. Perhaps it does not matter as H. Peter Anvin noted that user space can not set the bottom two bits of the %cs register. But it's best not to let the assembly choose and change things between different versions of gas, but instead just pick the size. Four bytes are used to compare the saved code segment against __KERNEL_CS. Perhaps this might mess up Xen, but we can fix that when the time comes. Also I noticed that there was another non-specified cmp that checks the special stack variable if it is 1 or 0. This too probably doesn't matter what cmp is used, but this patch uses cmpl just to make it non ambiguous. (I tested this, and it is indeed the case) Add another check to determine nested NMIs by looking at the saved %cs (code segment register) and making sure that it is the kernel code segment. It's broken: the first sample we get on a task might be bad because of a stale sleep_start value that wasn't reset at the last task switch because the tracepoint was not active. It also breaks the existing schedstat samples due to the side effects of: - se->statistics.sleep_start = 0; ... - se->statistics.block_start = 0; Nor do I see means to fix it without adding overhead to the scheduler fast path, which I'm not willing to for the sake of redundant instrumentation. Most importantly, sleep time information can already be constructed by tracing context switches and wakeups, and taking the timestamp difference between the schedule-out, the wakeup and the schedule-in. This keeps the interrupt masked forever. This was not noticed as most IRQ_ONESHOT users wake the thread unconditionally (usually because they cannot access the underlying device from hard interrupt context). Though this behaviour was nowhere documented and not necessarily intentional. Some drivers can avoid the thread wakeup in certain cases and run into the situation where the interrupt line s kept masked. Handle it gracefully.
