dcssblk_direct_access() needs to check the validity of pointers kaddr
and pfn for NULL assignment. If anyone equals to NULL, it doesn't need
to calculate the value.
If either of them is equal to NULL, that is to say callers may
have no need for kaddr or pfn, so this patch is prepared for allowing
them to pass in NULL instead of having to pass in a pointer or local
variable that they then just throw away.

When the ACPI UC error notifier gets called and ARS_REQ bit is set
with the passed in flag, we can receive -EBUSY if ARS_REQ bit is already
set for the nfit_spa->ars_state. When that happens, the ARS request is
dropped. That can potentially cause us to miss the unreported errors that
the on going ARS request does not receive. Add an ARS_REQ_REDO state that
will request short ARS upon ARS completion to grab any errors we missed.

The 'available_size' attribute showing the combined total of all
unallocated space isn't always useful to know how large of a namespace
a user may be able to allocate if the region is fragmented. This patch
will export the largest extent of unallocated space that may be allocated
to create a new namespace.

This patch will find the max contiguous area to determine the largest
pmem namespace size that can be created. If the requested size exceeds
the largest available, ENOSPC error will be returned.
This fixes the allocation underrun error and wrong error return code
that have otherwise been observed as the following kernel warning:

In order to emulate the behavior of the NVDIMM_FAMILY_INTEL DSMs

The _LSR method indicates locked status via error-code-3 returned in the

truncated to a zero-length buffer.
The _DSM path in comparison allows system software to retrieve the

Commit 546eb0317cfa "libnvdimm, pmem: Do not flush power-fail protected CPU caches"
fixed the write_cache detection to correctly show the lack of a write
cache based on the platform capabilities described in the ACPI NFIT. The
nfit_test unit tests expected a write cache to be present, so change the
nfit test namespaces to only advertise a persistence domain limited to
the memory controller. This allows the kernel to show a write_cache
attribute, and the test behaviour remains unchanged.

Commit 60622d68227d "x86/asm/memcpy_mcsafe: Return bytes remaining"
converted callers of memcpy_mcsafe() to expect a positive 'bytes
remaining' value rather than a negative error code. The nsio_rw_bytes()
conversion failed to return success. The failure is benign in that
nsio_rw_bytes() will end up writing back what it just read.

Pull perf fixes from Thomas Gleixner:
"A pile of perf updates:
Kernel side:
- Remove an incorrect warning in uprobe_init_insn() when
insn_get_length() fails. The error return code is handled at the
call site.
- Move the inline keyword to the right place in the perf ringbuffer
code to address a W=1 build warning.
Tooling:
perf stat:
- Fix metric column header display alignment
- Improve error messages for default attributes, providing better
output for error in command line.
- Add --interval-clear option, to provide a 'watch' like printing

- Show hw-cache events too
perf c2c:
- Fix data dependency problem in layout of 'struct c2c_hist_entry'
Core:
- Do not blindly assume that 'struct perf_evsel' can be obtained via
a straight forward container_of() as there are call sites which
hand in a plain 'struct hist' which is not part of a container.
- Fix error index in the PMU event parser, so that error messages can
point to the problematic token"

but only if it was decoded successfully, otherwise insn_complete() can fail
and in this case we need to just return an error without warning.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/acme/linux into perf/urgent
Pull perf/urgent fixes and improvements from Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo:
perf stat:
- Fix metric column header display alignment (Jiri Olsa)
- Improve error messages for default attributes, providing better output
for error in command lines such as:
$ perf stat -T
Cannot set up transaction events
event syntax error: '..cycles,cpu/cycles-t/,cpu/tx-start/,cpu/el-start/,cpu/cycles-ct/}'
\___ unknown term
Where the "event syntax error" line now appears (Jiri Olsa)
- Add --interval-clear option, to provide a 'watch' like printing (Jiri Olsa)
perf script:
- Show hw-cache events too (Seeteena Thoufeek)
perf c2c:
- Fix data dependency problem in layout of 'struct c2c_hist_entry', where
its member 'struct hist_entry' must be at the end because it has a ZLA
as its last member, that gets space when handling callchains (Jiri Olsa)
Core:
- We cannot assume that a 'struct perf_evsel' is to be obtained from a
container_of operation on a 'struct hists' as there are tools, such as
'perf c2c' that uses 'struct hist' instances without having them in
container structs that also have 'struct perf_evsel' in a particular
layout, so provide a different way of figuring out if a 'struct hists'
and 'struct hist_entry' have callchains (Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo)
- Fix error index in the PMU event parser, so that error messages can
point to the problematic token (Jiri Olsa)

Exactly as the comment just before 'struct c2c_hist_entry" says, i.e.
the last entry in struct hist_entry is a zero length array, that when
allocating space for hist_entry gets extra space if callchains are in
use, which, if hist_entry is not at the end of c2c_hist_entry, the
members after it gets corrupted when callchains get added to the rb
trees collecting them, etc.

We can call color_fprintf also for non color case, it's handled
properly. This change simplifies following patch.

There are places where we have only access to struct hists and need to
know if any of its hist_entries has callchains, like when drawing
headers for the various output modes (stdio, TUI, etc), so, when adding
a new hist_entry, check if it has callchains, storing this info for
later use by hists__has_callchains().
This reimplementation is necessary because not always a 'struct hists'
is allocated together with a 'struct perf evsel', so we can't go from
'hists' to 'perf_event_attr.sample_type & PERF_SAMPLE_CALLCHAIN'.

Since we can't go from struct hists to struct evsel for all cases (c2c

hist_entry__has_callchains() in the GTK+ hists browser to figure out
if callchains are available.

Since 'perf c2c' uses 'struct hists' not allocated together with a
'struct perf_evsel' instance, we can't go from a 'struct hist_entry'
pointer to a 'struct perf_evsel' via he->hists, so, instead, check if
space was set aside for hist_entry->callchain[0] at hist_entry__new()
time.

So that we can figure out the real size of the struct and also be able
to tell if callchains may be present in this histogram entry.
Since we can't always guarantee that from hist_entry->hists we can use
hists_to_evsel, to then look at evsel->attr.sample_type for
PERF_SAMPLE_CALLCHAIN, like with the 'perf c2c' tool, that uses plain
'struct hists' instances, we need another way of deciding if a specific
hist_entry instance has callchains associated with it, i.e. if its
hist_entry->callchain[0] has space allocated for.

When delivering a signal to a task that is using rseq, we call into
__rseq_handle_notify_resume() so that the registers pushed in the
sigframe are updated to reflect the state of the restartable sequence
(for example, ensuring that the signal returns to the abort handler if
necessary).
However, if the rseq management fails due to an unrecoverable fault when
accessing userspace or certain combinations of RSEQ_CS_* flags, then we
will attempt to deliver a SIGSEGV. This has the potential for infinite
recursion if the rseq code continuously fails on signal delivery.
Avoid this problem by using force_sigsegv() instead of force_sig(), which
is explicitly designed to reset the SEGV handler to SIG_DFL in the case
of a recursive fault. In doing so, remove rseq_signal_deliver() from the
internal rseq API and have an optional struct ksignal * parameter to
rseq_handle_notify_resume() instead.

Considering that we explicitly forbid system calls in rseq critical
sections, it is not valid to issue a fork or clone system call within a
rseq critical section, so rseq_fork() is not required to restart an
active rseq c.s. in the child process.

The following commit:
2c3625cb9fa2 ("efi/x86: Fold __setup_efi_pci32() and __setup_efi_pci64() into one function")
... merged the two versions of __setup_efi_pciXX(), without taking into
account that the 32-bit version used a rather dodgy trick to pass an
immediate 0 constant as argument for a uint64_t parameter.
The issue is caused by the fact that on x86, UEFI protocol method calls
are redirected via struct efi_config::call(), which is a variadic function,
and so the compiler has to infer the types of the parameters from the
arguments rather than from the prototype.
As the 32-bit x86 calling convention passes arguments via the stack,
passing the unqualified constant 0 twice is the same as passing 0ULL,
which is why the 32-bit code in __setup_efi_pci32() contained the
following call:
status = efi_early->call(pci->attributes, pci,
EfiPciIoAttributeOperationGet, 0, 0,
&attributes);
to invoke this UEFI protocol method:
typedef
EFI_STATUS
(EFIAPI *EFI_PCI_IO_PROTOCOL_ATTRIBUTES) (
IN EFI_PCI_IO_PROTOCOL *This,
IN EFI_PCI_IO_PROTOCOL_ATTRIBUTE_OPERATION Operation,
IN UINT64 Attributes,
OUT UINT64 *Result OPTIONAL
);
After the merge, we inadvertently ended up with this version for both
32-bit and 64-bit builds, breaking the latter.
So replace the two zeroes with the explicitly typed constant 0ULL,
which works as expected on both 32-bit and 64-bit builds.
Wilfried tested the 64-bit build, and I checked the generated assembly
of a 32-bit build with and without this patch, and they are identical.

Commit:
79832f0b5f71 ("efi/libstub/tpm: Initialize pointer variables to zero for mixed mode")
fixes a problem with the tpm code on mixed mode (64-bit kernel on 32-bit UEFI),
where 64-bit pointer variables are not fully initialized by the 32-bit EFI code.
A similar problem applies to the efi_physical_addr_t variables which
are written by the ->get_event_log() EFI call. Even though efi_physical_addr_t
is 64-bit everywhere, it seems that some 32-bit UEFI implementations only
fill in the lower 32 bits when passed a pointer to an efi_physical_addr_t
to fill.
This commit initializes these to 0 to, to ensure the upper 32 bits are
0 in mixed mode. This fixes recent kernels sometimes hanging during
early boot on mixed mode UEFI systems.

machine_real_restart() is annotated as '__noreturn", so add it to the
objtool noreturn list. This fixes the following warning with clang and
CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y:
arch/x86/kernel/reboot.o: warning: objtool: native_machine_emergency_restart() falls through to next function machine_power_off()

Pull x86 fixes from Thomas Gleixner:
"A set of fixes for x86:
- Make Xen PV guest deal with speculative store bypass correctly
- Address more fallout from the 5-Level pagetable handling. Undo an
__initdata annotation to avoid section mismatch and malfunction
when post init code would touch the freed variable.
- Handle exception fixup in math_error() before calling notify_die().
The reverse call order incorrectly triggers notify_die() listeners
for soemthing which is handled correctly at the site which issues
the floating point instruction.
- Fix an off by one in the LLC topology calculation on AMD
- Handle non standard memory block sizes gracefully un UV platforms
- Plug a memory leak in the microcode loader
- Sanitize the purgatory build magic
- Add the x86 specific device tree bindings directory to the x86
MAINTAINER file patterns"

early_identify_cpu() has to use early version of pgtable_l5_enabled()
that doesn't rely on cpu_feature_enabled().
Defining USE_EARLY_PGTABLE_L5 before all includes does the trick.
I lost the define in one of reworks of the original patch.

This reverts commit e4e961e36f063484c48bed919013c106d178995d.
We need to use early version of pgtable_l5_enabled() in
early_identify_cpu() as this code runs before cpu_feature_enabled() is
usable.
But it leads to section mismatch:
cpu_init()
load_mm_ldt()
ldt_slot_va()
LDT_BASE_ADDR
LDT_PGD_ENTRY
pgtable_l5_enabled()
__pgtable_l5_enabled
__pgtable_l5_enabled marked as __initdata, but cpu_init() is not __init.
It's fixable: early code can be isolated into a separate translation unit,
but such change collides with other work in the area. That's too much
hassle to save 4 bytes of memory.
Return __pgtable_l5_enabled back to be __ro_after_init.

The current logic incorrectly calculates the LLC ID from the APIC ID.
Unless specified otherwise, the LLC ID should be calculated by removing
the Core and Thread ID bits from the least significant end of the APIC
ID. For more info, see "ApicId Enumeration Requirements" in any Fam17h
PPR document.
