* block: remove remnant refs to hardsectLinus Walleij2016-09-141-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit e1defc4ff0cf57aca6c5e3ff99fa503f5943c1f1 "block: Do away with the notion of hardsect_size" removed the notion of "hardware sector size" from the kernel in favor of logical block size, but references remain in comments and documentation. Update the remaining sites mentioning hardsect. Signed-off-by: Linus Walleij <linus.walleij@linaro.org> Reviewed-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@fb.com>
* block: rename bio bi_rw to bi_opfJens Axboe2016-08-071-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 63a4cc24867d, bio->bi_rw contains flags in the lower portion and the op code in the higher portions. This means that old code that relies on manually setting bi_rw is most likely going to be broken. Instead of letting that brokeness linger, rename the member, to force old and out-of-tree code to break at compile time instead of at runtime. No intended functional changes in this commit. * block: add a bi_error field to struct bioChristoph Hellwig2015-07-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we have two different ways to signal an I/O error on a BIO: (1) by clearing the BIO_UPTODATE flag (2) by returning a Linux errno value to the bi_end_io callback The first one has the drawback of only communicating a single possible error (-EIO), and the second one has the drawback of not beeing persistent when bios are queued up, and are not passed along from child to parent bio in the ever more popular chaining scenario. Having both mechanisms available has the additional drawback of utterly confusing driver authors and introducing bugs where various I/O submitters only deal with one of them, and the others have to add boilerplate code to deal with both kinds of error returns. So add a new bi_error field to store an errno value directly in struct bio and remove the existing mechanisms to clean all this up. * | scsi: add new scsi-command flag for tagged commandsChristoph Hellwig2014-11-121-4/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently scsi piggy backs on the block layer to define the concept of a tagged command. But we want to be able to have block-level host-wide tags assigned even for untagged commands like the initial INQUIRY, so add a new SCSI-level flag for commands that are tagged at the scsi level, so that even commands without that set can have tags assigned to them. Note that this alredy is the case for the blk-mq code path, and this just lets the old path catch up with it. We also set this flag based upon sdev->simple_tags instead of the block queue flag, so that it is entirely independent of the block layer tagging, and thus always correct even if a driver doesn't use block level tagging yet. Also remove the old blk_rq_tagged; it was only used by SCSI drivers, and removing it forces them to look for the proper replacement. * block: Kill bi_destructorKent Overstreet2012-09-091-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that we've got generic code for freeing bios allocated from bio pools, this isn't needed anymore. This patch also makes bio_free() static, since without bi_destructor there should be no need for it to be called anywhere else. bio_free() is now only called from bio_put, so we can refactor those a bit - move some code from bio_put() to bio_free() and kill the redundant bio->bi_next = NULL. v5: Switch to BIO_KMALLOC_POOL ((void *)~0), per Boaz v6: BIO_KMALLOC_POOL now NULL, drop bio_free's EXPORT_SYMBOL v7: No #define BIO_KMALLOC_POOL anymore Signed-off-by: Kent Overstreet <koverstreet@google.com> CC: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
