* Documentation: Add io-mapping.rst to driver-api manualPragat Pandya2020-03-101-97/+0
| | | | | | | | | Add io-mapping.rst under Documentation/driver-api and reference it from Sphinx TOC Tree present in Documentation/driver-api/index.rst Signed-off-by: Pragat Pandya <pragat.pandya@gmail.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200303050301.5412-2-pragat.pandya@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
* io-mapping.txt: standardize document formatMauro Carvalho Chehab2017-07-141-26/+41
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Each text file under Documentation follows a different format. Some doesn't even have titles! Change its representation to follow the adopted standard, using ReST markups for it to be parseable by Sphinx: - Add a title for the document and for API chapter; - mark literal blocks; - Adjust whitespacing. * resources: add io-mapping functions to dynamically map large device aperturesKeith Packard2008-10-311-0/+76
Impact: add new generic io_map_*() APIs Graphics devices have large PCI apertures which would consume a significant fraction of a 32-bit address space if mapped during driver initialization. Using ioremap at runtime is impractical as it is too slow. This new set of interfaces uses atomic mappings on 32-bit processors and a large static mapping on 64-bit processors to provide reasonable 32-bit performance and optimal 64-bit performance. The current implementation sits atop the io_map_atomic fixmap-based mechanism for 32-bit processors.
