* doc: fix broken referencesPaul Bolle2011-09-271-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | There are numerous broken references to Documentation files (in other Documentation files, in comments, etc.). These broken references are caused by typo's in the references, and by renames or removals of the Documentation files. Some broken references are simply odd. Fix these broken references, sometimes by dropping the irrelevant text they were part of. Signed-off-by: Paul Bolle <pebolle@tiscali.nl> Signed-off-by: Jiri Kosina <jkosina@suse.cz>

* PM / Hibernate: document open(/dev/snapshot) side effectsPavel Machek2010-05-101-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | Opening and closing /dev/snapshot causes the kernel to carry out some hibernate preparations that should be documented. [rjw: Added the changelog.] Signed-off-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@ucw.cz> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl>

* Hibernation: Introduce exportable suspend ioctls header (rev. 2)Rafael J. Wysocki2008-02-021-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | Move the definitions of hibernation ioctls to a separate header file in include/linux, which can be exported to the user space. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl> Acked-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@ucw.cz> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
* Hibernation: Correct definitions of some ioctls (rev. 2)Rafael J. Wysocki2008-02-021-13/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | Three ioctl numbers belonging to the hibernation userland interface, SNAPSHOT_ATOMIC_SNAPSHOT, SNAPSHOT_AVAIL_SWAP, SNAPSHOT_GET_SWAP_PAGE, are defined in a wrong way (eg. not portable). Provide new ioctl numbers for these ioctls and mark the existing ones as deprecated. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl> Acked-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@ucw.cz> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
* Hibernation: Mark SNAPSHOT_SET_SWAP_FILE ioctl as deprecated (rev. 2)Rafael J. Wysocki2008-02-021-12/+2
| | | | | | | | | Mark the SNAPSHOT_SET_SWAP_FILE ioctl belonging to the hibernation userland interface as deprecated. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl> Acked-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@ucw.cz> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
* Hibernation: Rework platform support ioctls (rev. 2)Rafael J. Wysocki2008-02-021-18/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modify the hibernation userland interface by adding two new ioctls to it, SNAPSHOT_PLATFORM_SUPPORT and SNAPSHOT_POWER_OFF, that can be used, respectively, to switch the hibernation platform support on/off and to make the kernel transition the system to the hibernation state (eg. ACPI S4) using the platform (eg. ACPI) driver. These ioctls are intended to replace the misdesigned SNAPSHOT_PMOPS ioctl, which from now is regarded as obsolete and will be removed in the future. * Hibernation: Introduce SNAPSHOT_GET_IMAGE_SIZE ioctlRafael J. Wysocki2008-02-021-7/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add a new ioctl, SNAPSHOT_GET_IMAGE_SIZE, returning the size of the (just created) hibernation image, to the hibernation userland interface. This ioctl is necessary so that the userland utilities using the interface need not access the hibernation image header, owned by the kernel, in order to obtain the size of the image. * PM: Separate hibernation code from suspend codeRafael J. Wysocki2007-05-091-12/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ With Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> ] Separate the hibernation (aka suspend to disk code) from the other suspend code. In particular: * Remove the definitions related to hibernation from include/linux/pm.h * Introduce struct hibernation_ops and a new hibernate() function to hibernate the system, defined in include/linux/suspend.h * Separate suspend code in kernel/power/main.c from hibernation-related code in kernel/power/disk.c and kernel/power/user.c (with the help of hibernation_ops) * Switch ACPI (the only user of pm_ops.pm_disk_mode) to hibernation_ops Signed-off-by: Rafael J. * [PATCH] swsusp: update userland interface documentationRafael J. Wysocki2006-12-071-13/+51
| | | | | | | | | | | The swsusp userland interface has recently changed for a couple of times, but the changes have not been documented. Fix this, and document the SNAPSHOT_SET_SWAP_AREA ioctl(). * [PATCH] swsusp: userland interfaceRafael J. Wysocki2006-03-231-0/+149
This patch introduces a user space interface for swsusp. The interface is based on a special character device, called the snapshot device, that allows user space processes to perform suspend and resume-related operations with the help of some ioctls and the read()/write() functions.  Additionally it allows these processes to allocate free swap pages from a selected swap partition, called the resume partition, so that they know which sectors of the resume partition are available to them. The interface uses the same low-level system memory snapshot-handling functions that are used by the built-it swap-writing/reading code of swsusp. The interface documentation is included in the patch. The patch assumes that the major and minor numbers of the snapshot device will be 10 (ie. misc device) and 231, the registration of which has already been requested. Signed-off-by: Rafael J.
