* tracing: consolidate documentsLi Zefan2009-04-091-116/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move kmemtrace.txt, tracepoints.txt, ftrace.txt and mmiotrace.txt to the new trace/ directory. I didnt find any references to those documents in both source files and documents, so no extra work needs to be done. * tracing: Documentation / sample code fixes for tracepointsJody McIntyre2009-03-241-6/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix the tracepoint documentation to refer to "tracepoint-sample" instead of "tracepoint-example" to match what actually exists; fix the directory, and clarify how to compile. Change every instance of "example" in the sample tracepoint code to "sample" for consistency. * tracing: replace TP<var> with TP_<var>Steven Rostedt2009-03-101-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | Impact: clean up The macros TPPROTO, TPARGS, TPFMT, TPRAWFMT, and TPCMD all look a bit ugly. This patch adds an underscore to their names. Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt <srostedt@redhat.com>
* tracepoints: Documentation TPPROTO misspelt in Documentation/tracepoints.txtNikanth Karthikesan2008-11-291-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Impact: fix typo in documentation TPPROTO is misspelt in Documentation/tracepoints.txt Kept me wondering what was wrong, when I was trying to add a new tracepoint subsystem. Signed-off-by: Nikanth Karthikesan <knikanth@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
* tracepoints: format documentationIngo Molnar2008-11-161-40/+47
| | | | | | | | | Impact: documentation update Properly format Documentation/tracepoints.txt - it was full of overlong lines and other typographical problems. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

* tracepoints: documentation fix for teardownMathieu Desnoyers2008-11-161-4/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | Impact: documentation update Need a tracepoint_synchronize_unregister() before the end of exit() to make sure every probe callers have exited the non preemptible section and thus are not executing the probe code anymore. * tracepoints: add DECLARE_TRACE() and DEFINE_TRACE()Mathieu Desnoyers2008-11-161-1/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Impact: API *CHANGE*. Must update all tracepoint users. Add DEFINE_TRACE() to tracepoints to let them declare the tracepoint structure in a single spot for all the kernel. It helps reducing memory consumption, especially when declaring a lot of tracepoints, e.g. for kmalloc tracing. *API CHANGE WARNING*: now, DECLARE_TRACE() must be used in headers for tracepoint declarations rather than DEFINE_TRACE(). This is the sane way to do it. The name previously used was misleading. Updates scheduler instrumentation to follow this API change.
