* arch: mm: pass userspace fault flag to generic fault handlerJohannes Weiner2013-09-131-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Unlike global OOM handling, memory cgroup code will invoke the OOM killer in any OOM situation because it has no way of telling faults occuring in kernel context - which could be handled more gracefully - from user-triggered faults. Pass a flag that identifies faults originating in user space from the architecture-specific fault handlers to generic code so that memcg OOM handling can be improved. * kernel-wide: fix missing validations on __get/__put/__copy_to/__copy_from_user()Mathieu Desnoyers2013-09-121-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I found the following pattern that leads in to interesting findings: grep -r "ret.*|=.*__put_user" * grep -r "ret.*|=.*__get_user" * grep -r "ret.*|=.*__copy" * The __put_user() calls in compat_ioctl.c, ptrace compat, signal compat, since those appear in compat code, we could probably expect the kernel addresses not to be reachable in the lower 32-bit range, so I think they might not be exploitable. For the "__get_user" cases, I don't think those are exploitable: the worse that can happen is that the kernel will copy kernel memory into in-kernel buffers, and will fail immediately afterward. The alpha csum_partial_copy_from_user() seems to be missing the access_ok() check entirely. The fix is inspired from x86. This could lead to information leak on alpha. I also noticed that many architectures map csum_partial_copy_from_user() to csum_partial_copy_generic(), but I wonder if the latter is performing the access checks on every architectures. * alpha: delete __cpuinit usage from all usersPaul Gortmaker2013-07-152-7/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. This removes all the alpha uses of the __cpuinit macros. Allows direct polling of a network device from socket operations, such as recvmsg() and poll(). Currently ixgbe, mlx4, and bnx2x support this feature. Full high level description, performance numbers, and design in commit 0a4db187a999 ("Merge branch 'll_poll'") From Eliezer Tamir. 2) With the routing cache removed, ip_check_mc_rcu() gets exercised more than ever before in the case where we have lots of multicast addresses. The be2net driver had a bug fix in 'net' that overlapped with the VLAN interface changes by Patrick McHardy in net-next. An IGB conflict existed because in 'net' the build_skb() support was reverted, and in 'net-next' there was a comment style fix within that code. Several batman-adv conflicts were resolved by making sure that all calls to batadv_is_my_mac() are changed to have a new bat_priv first argument. Eric Dumazet's TS ECR fix in TCP in 'net' conflicted with the F-RTO rewrite in 'net-next', mostly overlapping changes. It is useful also to wake the socket if it is in the error list, which would enable software to wait on error queue packets without waking up for regular data on the socket. The main use case is for receiving timestamped transmit packets which return the timestamp to the socket via the error queue. This enables an application to select on the socket for the error queue only instead of for the regular traffic. -v2- * Added the SO_SELECT_ERR_QUEUE socket option to every architechture specific file * Modified every socket poll function that checks error queue Signed-off-by: Jacob Keller <jacob.e.keller@intel.com> Cc: Jeffrey Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Cc: Richard Cochran <richardcochran@gmail.com> Cc: Matthew Vick <matthew.vick@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S.
