Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

cpu_power_down
Commit 9da5ac236de6 ("ARM: soft-reboot into same mode that we entered
the kernel") added support to enter the new kernel in the same processor
mode as the previous one when we soft-reboot from one kernel into
another by pass a flag to cpu_reset() so it knows what to do exactly.
However it missed to make similar changes in MCPM code. Due to the
missing flag, the CPUs enter HYP mode which is not supported with MCPM.
MCPM works only in secure mode as it manages CCI.
This patch aligns the cpu_reset call in MCPM with other changes in the
above mentioned commit by making phys_reset_t to follow the prototype
of cpu_reset().

This moves the ICST clock divider helper library from
arch/arm/common to drivers/clk/versatile so it is maintained
with the other clock drivers.
We keep the structure as a helper library intact and do not
fuse it with the clk-icst.c Versatile ICST clock driver: there
may be other users out there that need to use this library for
their clocking, and then it will be helpful to keep the
library contained. (The icst.[c|h] files could just be moved
to drivers/clk/lib or a similar location to share the library.)

Pull ARM updates from Russell King:
- Correct ARMs dma-mapping to use the correct printk format strings.
- Avoid defining OBJCOPYFLAGS globally which upsets lkdtm rodata
testing.
- Cleanups to ARMs asm/memory.h include.
- L2 cache cleanups.
- Allow flat nommu binaries to be executed on ARM MMU systems.
- Kernel hardening - add more read-only after init annotations,
including making some kernel vdso variables const.
- Ensure AMBA primecell clocks are appropriately defaulted.
- ARM breakpoint cleanup.
- Various StrongARM 11x0 and companion chip (SA1111) updates to bring
this legacy platform to use more modern APIs for (eg) GPIOs and
interrupts, which will allow us in the future to reduce some of the
board-level driver clutter and elimate function callbacks into board
code via platform data. There still appears to be interest in these
platforms!
- Remove the now redundant secure_flush_area() API.
- Module PLT relocation optimisations. Ard says: This series of 4
patches optimizes the ARM PLT generation code that is invoked at
module load time, to get rid of the O(n^2) algorithm that results in
pathological load times of 10 seconds or more for large modules on
certain STB platforms.
- ARMv7M cache maintanence support.
- L2 cache PMU support

However, we must only remove our own RAB bus typed devices from the

incorrectly trying to remove the gpiochip device, leading to an oops

Many modules call misc_register and misc_deregister in its module init
and exit methods without any additional code. This ends up being
boilerplate. This patch adds helper macro module_misc_device(), that
replaces module_init()/ module_exit() with template functions.
This patch also converts drivers to use new macro.
Change since v1:
Add device.h include in miscdevice.h as module_driver macro was not
available from other include files in some architectures.

Accidentally booting Collie on Assabet reveals that the locomo driver
incorrectly overwrites gpio-sa1100's chip data for its parent interrupt,
leading to oops in sa1100_gpio_unmask() and sa1100_update_edge_regs()
when "gpio: sa1100: convert to use IO accessors" is applied. Fix locomo
to use the handler data rather than chip data for its parent interrupt.

SA1111 PCMCIA was broken when PCMCIA switched to using dev_pm_ops for
the PCMCIA socket class. PCMCIA used to handle suspend/resume via the
socket hosting device, which happened at normal device suspend/resume
time.
However, the referenced commit changed this: much of the resume now
happens much earlier, in the noirq resume handler of dev_pm_ops.
However, on SA1111, the PCMCIA device is not accessible as the SA1111
has not been resumed at _noirq time. It's slightly worse than that,
because the SA1111 has already been put to sleep at _noirq time, so
suspend doesn't work properly.
Fix this by converting the core SA1111 code to use dev_pm_ops as well,
and performing its own suspend/resume at noirq time.
This fixes these errors in the kernel log:
pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: time out after reset
pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket1: time out after reset
and the resulting lack of PCMCIA cards after a S2RAM cycle.

The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA
attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data.
However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned
long will do fine:
1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting
attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack
and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits.
2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the
attributes are passed by value.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio
Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for kernel v4.6. There is quite a
lot of interesting stuff going on.
The patches to other subsystems and arch-wide are ACKed as far as
possible, though I consider things like per-arch <asm/gpio.h> as
essentially a part of the GPIO subsystem so it should not be needed.
Core changes:
- The gpio_chip is now a *real device*. Until now the gpio chips
were just piggybacking the parent device or (gasp) floating in
space outside of the device model.
We now finally make GPIO chips devices. The gpio_chip will create
a gpio_device which contains a struct device, and this gpio_device
struct is kept private. Anything that needs to be kept private
from the rest of the kernel will gradually be moved over to the
gpio_device.
- As a result of making the gpio_device a real device, we have added
resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on
overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert
almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this.
- Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step of
a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small
steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool
"lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all
lines on these devices.
We can now discover GPIOs properly from userspace. We still have
not come up with a way to actually *use* GPIOs from userspace.
- To encourage people to use the character device for the future, we
have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is still
opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as deprecated.
We will keep it around for the foreseeable future, but it will not
be extended to cover ever more use cases.
Cleanup:
- Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h>
includes.
This dates back to when GPIO was an opt-in feature and no shared
library even existed: just a header file with proper prototypes was
provided and all semantics were up to the arch to implement. These
patches make the GPIO chip even more a proper device and cleans out
leftovers of the old in-kernel API here and there.
Still some cruft is left but it's very little now.
- There is still some clamping of return values for .get() going on,
but we now return sane values in the vast majority of drivers and
the errorpath is sanitized. Some patches for powerpc, blackfin and
unicore still drop in.
- We continue to switch the ARM, MIPS, blackfin, m68k local GPIO
implementations to use gpiochip_add_data() and cut down on code
lines.
- MPC8xxx is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers.
- ATH79 is converted to use the generic GPIO helpers.
New drivers:
- WinSystems WS16C48
- Acces 104-DIO-48E
- F81866 (a F7188x variant)
- Qoric (a MPC8xxx variant)
- TS-4800
- SPI serializers (pisosr): simple 74xx shift registers connected to
SPI to obtain a dirt-cheap output-only GPIO expander.
- Texas Instruments TPIC2810
- Texas Instruments TPS65218
- Texas Instruments TPS65912
- X-Gene (ARM64) standby GPIO controller"

Since the dawn of time the ICST code has only supported divide
by one or hang in an eternal loop. Luckily we were always dividing
by one because the reference frequency for the systems using
the ICSTs is 24MHz and the [min, max] values for the PLL input
if [10,320] MHz for ICST307 and [6,200] for ICST525, so the loop
will always terminate immediately without assigning any divisor
for the reference frequency.
But for the code to make sense, let's insert the missing i++

When trying to set the ICST 307 clock to 25174000 Hz I ran into
this arithmetic error: the icst_hz_to_vco() correctly figure out
DIVIDE=2, RDW=100 and VDW=99 yielding a frequency of
25174000 Hz out of the VCO. (I replicated the icst_hz() function
in a spreadsheet to verify this.)
However, when I called icst_hz() on these VCO settings it would
instead return 4122709 Hz. This causes an error in the common
clock driver for ICST as the common clock framework will call
.round_rate() on the clock which will utilize icst_hz_to_vco()
followed by icst_hz() suggesting the erroneous frequency, and
then the clock gets set to this.
The error did not manifest in the old clock framework since
this high frequency was only used by the CLCD, which calls
clk_set_rate() without first calling clk_round_rate() and since
the old clock framework would not call clk_round_rate() before
setting the frequency, the correct values propagated into
the VCO.
After some experimenting I figured out that it was due to a simple
arithmetic overflow: the divisor for 24Mhz reference frequency
as reference becomes 24000000*2*(99+8)=0x132212400 and the "1"
in bit 32 overflows and is lost.
But introducing an explicit 64-by-32 bit do_div() and casting
the divisor into (u64) we get the right frequency back, and the
right frequency gets set.
Tested on the ARM Versatile.

As we want gpio_chip .get() calls to be able to return negative
error codes and propagate to drivers, we need to go over all
drivers and make sure their return values are clamped to [0,1].
We do this by using the ret = !!(val) design pattern.

Pull dmaengine updates from Vinod Koul:
"This time we have a very typical update which is mostly fixes and
updates to drivers and no new drivers.
- the biggest change is coming from Peter for edma cleanup which even
caused some last minute regression, things seem settled now
- idma64 and dw updates
- iotdma updates
- module autoload fixes for various drivers
- scatter gather support for hdmac"

Move the code out from arch/arm/common and merge it inside of the dmaengine
driver.
This change is done with as minimal (if eny) functional change to the code
as possible to avoid introducing regression.

Since the driver stack no longer depends on lookup with id number in a
global array of pointers, the limitation for the number of eDMAs are no
longer needed. We can handle as many eDMAs in legacy and DT boot as we have
memory for them to allocate the needed structures.

Instead of relying on indexes pointing to edma private date in the global
pointer array, pass the private data pointer via the public API.

If the of_dma_controller is registered in the non dmaengine driver we could
have race condition:
the of_dma_controller has been registered, but the dmaengine driver is not
yet probed. Drivers requesting DMA channels during this window will fail
since we do not yet have dmaengine drivers registered.

Currently we have one device created to handle all (maximum 2) eDMAs in the
system.
With this change all eDMA instance will have it's own device/driver.
This change is needed for further cleanups in the eDMA driver stack since
the one device/driver to handle all eDMAs in the system was not flexible
enough and prevents the upcoming work.

In case when the interrupt happened for the second eDMA the channel
number was incorrectly passed to the client driver.
