| * h8300: move definition of __kernel_size_t etc. to posix_types.hMasahiro Yamada2020-04-082-15/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These types should be defined in posix_types.h, not in bitsperlong.h . With these defines moved, h8300-specific bitsperlong.h is no longer needed since Kbuild will automatically create a wrapper of include/uapi/asm-generic/bitsperlong.h Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com>
* | mm/vma: define a default value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGSAnshuman Khandual2020-04-111-2/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are many platforms with exact same value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGS This creates a default value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGS in line with the existing VM_STACK_DEFAULT_FLAGS. While here, also define some more macros with standard VMA access flag combinations that are used frequently across many platforms. Apart from simplification, this reduces code duplication as well. So, mandatory-y works like a fallback default (by just wrapping asm-generic one) when arch does not have a specific header implementation. * mm: consolidate pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init()Mike Rapoport2019-09-251-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Both pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init() are used to initialize kmem cache for page table allocations on several architectures that do not use PAGE_SIZE tables for one or more levels of the page table hierarchy. Most architectures do not implement these functions and use __weak default NOP implementation of pgd_cache_init(). Since there is no such default for pgtable_cache_init(), its empty stub is duplicated among most architectures. Rename the definitions of pgd_cache_init() to pgtable_cache_init() and drop empty stubs of pgtable_cache_init(). Convert all 'simple' architectures to one of these two forms. alpha: has no range invalidate -> 2 arc: already used flush_tlb_range() -> 1 c6x: has no range invalidate -> 2 hexagon: has an efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (flush_tlb_mm() is in fact a full range invalidate, so no need to shoot down everything) m68k: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 microblaze: has no flush_tlb_range() -> 2 mips: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (even though it currently seems to use flush_tlb_mm()) nds32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 nios2: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) openrisc: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) parisc: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 sparc32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 unicore32: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) xtensa: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 Note this also fixes a bug in the existing code for a number platforms. Those platforms that did: tlb_end_vma() -> if (!full_mm) flush_tlb_*() tlb_flush -> if (full_mm) flush_tlb_mm() missed the case of shift_arg_pages(), which doesn't have @fullmm set, nor calls into tlb_*vma(), but still frees page-tables and thus needs an invalidate. The new code handles this by detecting a non-empty range, and either issuing the matching range invalidate or a full invalidate, depending on the capabilities. No change in behavior intended. When looking at all the users of this function, I discovered that all instances pass in only 0 and 6 for these arguments. Instead of having this function handle different cases that are never used, simply rewrite it to return the first 6 arguments of a system call. This should help out the performance of tracing system calls by ptrace, ftrace and perf. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I do not see any consistency about headers_install of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h>. According to my analysis of Linux 5.1-rc1, there are 3 groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported alpha, arm, hexagon, mips, powerpc, s390, sparc, x86 [2] <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported, but <linux/kvm_para.h> is not arc, arm64, c6x, h8300, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nios2, openrisc, parisc, sh, unicore32, xtensa [3] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported csky, nds32, riscv This does not match to the actual KVM support. At least, [2] is half-baked. Nor do arch maintainers look like they care about this. For example, commit 0add53713b1c ("microblaze: Add missing kvm_para.h to Kbuild") exported <asm/kvm_para.h> to user-space in order to fix an in-kernel build error. We have two ways to make this consistent: [A] export both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> for all architectures, irrespective of the KVM support [B] Match the header export of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> to the KVM support My first attempt was [A] because the code looks cleaner, but Paolo suggested [B]. So, this commit goes with [B]. For most architectures, <asm/kvm_para.h> was moved to the kernel-space. I changed include/uapi/linux/Kbuild so that it checks generated asm/kvm_para.h as well as check-in ones. After this commit, there will be two groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported arm, arm64, mips, powerpc, s390, x86 [2] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported alpha, arc, c6x, csky, h8300, hexagon, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nds32, nios2, openrisc, parisc, riscv, sh, sparc, unicore32, xtensa Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Acked-by: Cornelia Huck <cohuck@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

As the final 32-bit RISC-V syscall ABI is still being decided on, this is the last chance to make a few corrections to leave out interfaces based on 32-bit time_t along with the old off_t and rlimit types. The series achieves this in a few steps: - A couple of bug fixes for minor regressions I introduced in the original series - A couple of older patches from Yury Norov that I had never merged in the past, these fix up the openat/open_by_handle_at and getrlimit/setrlimit syscalls to disallow the old versions of off_t and rlimit. - Hiding the deprecated system calls behind an #ifdef in include/uapi/asm-generic/unistd.h - Change arch/riscv to drop all these ABIs. Originally, the plan was to also leave these out on C-Sky, but that now has a glibc port that uses the older interfaces, so we need to leave them in place.
| | * asm-generic: Make time32 syscall numbers optionalArnd Bergmann2019-02-191-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We don't want new architectures to even provide the old 32-bit time_t based system calls any more, or define the syscall number macros. Add a new __ARCH_WANT_TIME32_SYSCALLS macro that gets enabled for all existing 32-bit architectures using the generic system call table, so we don't change any current behavior. Since this symbol is evaluated in user space as well, we cannot use a Kconfig CONFIG_* macro but have to define it in uapi/asm/unistd.h. On 64-bit architectures, the same system call numbers mostly refer to the system calls we want to keep, as they already pass 64-bit time_t. As new architectures no longer provide these, we need new exceptions in checksyscalls.sh. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>

Therefore drop getrlimit and setrlimit syscalls from the generic syscall list unless __ARCH_WANT_SET_GET_RLIMIT is defined by the architecture's unistd.h prior to including asm-generic/unistd.h, and adjust all architectures using the generic syscall list to define it so that no in-tree architectures are affected. |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Every in-kernel use of this function defined it to KERNEL_DS (either as an actual define, or as an inline function). It's an entirely historical artifact, and long long long ago used to actually read the segment selector valueof '%ds' on x86. Which in the kernel is always KERNEL_DS. Inspired by a patch from Jann Horn that just did this for a very small subset of users (the ones in fs/), along with Al who suggested a script. I then just took it to the logical extreme and removed all the remaining gunk. Roughly scripted with git grep -l '(get_ds())' -- :^tools/ | xargs sed -i 's/(get_ds())/(KERNEL_DS)/' git grep -lw 'get_ds' -- :^tools/ | xargs sed -i '/^#define get_ds()/d' plus manual fixups to remove a few unusual usage patterns, the couple of inline function cases and to fix up a comment that had become stale. The 'get_ds()' function remains in an x86 kvm selftest, since in user space it actually does something relevant. Since h8300 does not support PCI to start with, fix the problem by removing the architecture specific pci.h. * treewide: remove current_text_addrNick Desaulniers2018-10-311-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Prefer _THIS_IP_ defined in linux/kernel.h. Most definitions of current_text_addr were the same as _THIS_IP_, but a few archs had inline assembly instead. This patch removes the final call site of current_text_addr, making all of the definitions dead code. * y2038: Remove stat64 family from default syscall setArnd Bergmann2018-08-291-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | New architectures should no longer need stat64, which is not y2038 safe and has been replaced by statx(). This removes the 'select __ARCH_WANT_STAT64' statement from asm-generic/unistd.h and instead moves it into the respective asm/unistd.h UAPI header files for each architecture that uses it today. In the generic file, the system call number and entry points are now made conditional, so newly added architectures (e.g. riscv32 or csky) will never need to carry backwards compatiblity for it. arm64 is the only 64-bit architecture using the asm-generic/unistd.h file, and it already sets __ARCH_WANT_NEW_STAT in its headers, and I use the same #ifdef here: future 64-bit architectures therefore won't see newstat or stat64 any more. They don't suffer from the y2038 time_t overflow, but for consistency it seems best to also let them use statx(). Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>

* | atomics/treewide: Make unconditional inc/dec ops optionalMark Rutland2018-06-211-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many of the inc/dec ops are mandatory, but for most architectures inc/dec are simply trivial wrappers around their corresponding add/sub ops. Let's make all the inc/dec ops optional, so that we can get rid of these boilerplate wrappers. The instrumented atomics are updated accordingly. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. * | atomics/treewide: Make test ops optionalMark Rutland2018-06-211-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Some of the atomics return the result of a test applied after the atomic operation, and almost all architectures implement these as trivial wrappers around the underlying atomic. Specifically: * <atomic>_inc_and_test(v) is (<atomic>_inc_return(v) == 0) * <atomic>_dec_and_test(v) is (<atomic>_dec_return(v) == 0) * <atomic>_sub_and_test(i, v) is (<atomic>_sub_return(i, v) == 0) * <atomic>_add_negative(i, v) is (<atomic>_add_return(i, v) < 0) Rather than have these definitions duplicated in all architectures, with minor inconsistencies in formatting and documentation, let's make these operations optional, with default fallbacks as above. Implementations must now provide a preprocessor symbol. The instrumented atomics are updated accordingly. Both x86 and m68k have custom implementations, which are left as-is, given preprocessor symbols to avoid being overridden. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. * | atomics/treewide: Make atomic_fetch_add_unless() optionalMark Rutland2018-06-211-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several architectures these have a near-identical implementation based on atomic_read() and atomic_cmpxchg() which we can instead define in <linux/atomic.h>, so let's do so, using something close to the existing x86 implementation with try_cmpxchg(). Where an architecture provides its own atomic_fetch_add_unless(), it must define a preprocessor symbol for it. The instrumented atomics are updated accordingly. Note that arch/arc's existing atomic_fetch_add_unless() had redundant barriers, as these are already present in its atomic_cmpxchg() implementation. * | atomics/treewide: Rename __atomic_add_unless() => atomic_fetch_add_unless()Mark Rutland2018-06-211-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While __atomic_add_unless() was originally intended as a building-block for atomic_add_unless(), it's now used in a number of places around the kernel. It's the only common atomic operation named __atomic*(), rather than atomic_*(), and for consistency it would be better named atomic_fetch_add_unless(). This lack of consistency is slightly confusing, and gets in the way of scripting atomics. Given that, let's clean things up and promote it to an official part of the atomics API, in the form of atomic_fetch_add_unless(). This patch converts definitions and invocations over to the new name, including the instrumented version, using the following script: ---- git grep -w __atomic_add_unless | while read line; do sed -i '{s/\<__atomic_add_unless\>/atomic_fetch_add_unless/}' "${line%%:*}"; done git grep -w __arch_atomic_add_unless | while read line; do sed -i '{s/\<__arch_atomic_add_unless\>/arch_atomic_fetch_add_unless/}' "${line%%:*}"; done ---- Note that we do not have atomic{64,_long}_fetch_add_unless(), which will be introduced by later patches. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.
