This was confusing at best, and could be a source of livelocks in places that retry the cmpxchg_futex_value_locked after trying to fix the issue by running fault_in_user_writeable(). This change makes the cmpxchg_futex_value_locked API more similar to the get_futex_value_locked one, returning an error code and updating the original value through a reference argument. Changing this to ioremap_cache() improves performance as seen when accessing the tables via acpidump, or /sys/firmware/acpi/tables. It should also improve AML run-time performance. No change on ia64. | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Having four variables for the same thing: idle_halt, idle_nomwait, force_mwait and boot_option_idle_overrides is rather confusing and unnecessary complex. if idle= boot param is passed, only set up one variable: boot_option_idle_overrides Introduces following functional changes/fixes: - intel_idle driver does not register if any idle=xy boot param is passed. - processor_idle.c will also not register a cpuidle driver and get active if idle=halt is passed. Before a cpuidle driver with one (C1, halt) state got registered Now the default_idle function will be used which finally uses the same idle call to enter sleep state (safe_halt()), but without registering a whole cpuidle driver. That means idle= param will always avoid cpuidle drivers to register with one exception (same behavior as before): idle=nomwait may still register acpi_idle cpuidle driver, but C1 will not use mwait, but hlt. This can be a workaround for IO based deeper sleep states where C1 mwait causes problems. * taskstats: use real microsecond granularity for CPU timesMichael Holzheu2010-10-281-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The taskstats interface uses microsecond granularity for the user and system time values. The conversion from cputime to the taskstats values uses the cputime_to_msecs primitive which effectively limits the granularity to milliseconds. Add the cputime_to_usecs primitive for architectures that have better, more precise CPU time values. Remove cputime_to_msecs primitive because there are no more users left. In linux/irqflags.h under one configuration, it maps: local_irq_enable() -> raw_local_irq_enable() local_irq_disable() -> raw_local_irq_disable() local_irq_save() -> raw_local_irq_save() ... and under the other configuration, it maps: raw_local_irq_enable() -> local_irq_enable() raw_local_irq_disable() -> local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_save() -> local_irq_save() ... This is quite confusing. There should be one set of names expected of the arch, and this should be wrapped to give another set of names that are expected by users of this facility. Change this to have the arch provide: flags = arch_local_save_flags() flags = arch_local_irq_save() arch_local_irq_restore(flags) arch_local_irq_disable() arch_local_irq_enable() arch_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) arch_irqs_disabled() arch_safe_halt() Then linux/irqflags.h wraps these to provide: raw_local_save_flags(flags) raw_local_irq_save(flags) raw_local_irq_restore(flags) raw_local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_enable() raw_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) raw_irqs_disabled() raw_safe_halt() with type checking on the flags 'arguments', and then wraps those to provide: local_save_flags(flags) local_irq_save(flags) local_irq_restore(flags) local_irq_disable() local_irq_enable() irqs_disabled_flags(flags) irqs_disabled() safe_halt() with tracing included if enabled. The arch functions can now all be inline functions rather than some of them having to be macros. * / compat: Make compat_alloc_user_space() incorporate the access_ok()H. Peter Anvin2010-09-151-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | compat_alloc_user_space() expects the caller to independently call access_ok() to verify the returned area. A missing call could introduce problems on some architectures. This patch incorporates the access_ok() check into compat_alloc_user_space() and also adds a sanity check on the length. The existing compat_alloc_user_space() implementations are renamed arch_compat_alloc_user_space() and are used as part of the implementation of the new global function. This patch assumes NULL will cause __get_user()/__put_user() to either fail or access userspace on all architectures. This should be followed by checking the return value of compat_access_user_space() for NULL in the callers, at which time the access_ok() in the callers can also be removed. * dma-mapping: remove dma_is_consistent APIFUJITA Tomonori2010-08-111-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Architectures implement dma_is_consistent() in different ways (some misinterpret the definition of API in DMA-API.txt). So it hasn't been so useful for drivers. We have only one user of the API in tree. Unlikely out-of-tree drivers use the API. Even if we fix dma_is_consistent() in some architectures, it doesn't look useful at all. It was invented long ago for some old systems that can't allocate coherent memory at all. It's better to export only APIs that are definitely necessary for drivers. Let's remove this API.
