| * kmap_types: make most arches use generic header fileRandy Dunlap2009-06-171-21/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Convert most arches to use asm-generic/kmap_types.h. Move the KM_FENCE_ macro additions into asm-generic/kmap_types.h, controlled by __WITH_KM_FENCE from each arch's kmap_types.h file. Would be nice to be able to add custom KM_types per arch, but I don't yet see a nice, clean way to do that. Built on x86_64, i386, mips, sparc, alpha(tonyb), powerpc(tonyb), and 68k(tonyb). Note: avr32 should be able to remove KM_PTE2 (since it's not used) and then just use the generic kmap_types.h file. Get avr32 maintainer approval. | * time: move PIT_TICK_RATE to linux/timex.hArnd Bergmann2009-06-171-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | PIT_TICK_RATE is currently defined in four architectures, but in three different places. While linux/timex.h is not the perfect place for it, it is still a reasonable replacement for those drivers that traditionally use asm/timex.h to get CLOCK_TICK_RATE and expect it to be the PIT frequency. Note that for Alpha, the actual value changed from 1193182UL to 1193180UL. This is unlikely to make a difference, and probably can only improve accuracy. There was a discussion on the correct value of CLOCK_TICK_RATE a few years ago, after which every existing instance was getting changed to 1193182. According to the specification, it should be 1193181.818181... | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the near future, the driver core is going to not allow direct access to the driver_data pointer in struct device. Instead, the functions dev_get_drvdata() and dev_set_drvdata() should be used. These functions have been around since the beginning, so are backwards compatible with all older kernel versions. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The current asm-generic/page.h only contains the get_order function, and asm-generic/uaccess.h only implements unaligned accesses. This renames the file to getorder.h and uaccess-unaligned.h to make room for new page.h and uaccess.h file that will be usable by all simple (e.g. nommu) architectures. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The existing asm-generic/atomic.h only defines the atomic_long type. | | * | asm-generic: introduce asm/bitsperlong.hArnd Bergmann2009-06-112-3/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform. We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there. We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers need the word size but cannot include types.h. The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h> that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms. The rewrite also fixes build errors with GCC 4.4 which was changed in way incompatible with the kernel's inline assembly. Relying on pure C for computation of the delay value removes the need for explicit. The price we pay is a slight slowdown of the computation - to be fixed on another day. The truncated size can result in an erroneous tlbsize check that means we sit spinning inside a loop trying to flush a hige number of TLB entries. This is for all intents and purposes a system hang. Fix by using an appropriately sized valiable to hold the size. [Ralf: Greg's original patch submission identified the issue and fixed one instance in tlb-r4k.c but there there were several more. |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 1f87f7d3 (cfg80211: add rfkill support) added ERFKILL to asm-generic/errno.h, but alpha, mips, parisc and sparc use their own numbering scheme and do not include asm-generic/errno.h. We need to add definition of ERFKILL for them. * | MIPS: Use force_sig when handling address errors.David Daney2009-05-141-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When init is started it is SIGNAL_UNKILLABLE. If it were to get an address error, we would try to send it SIGBUS, but it would be ignored and the faulting instruction restarted. This results in an endless loop. We need to use force_sig() instead so it will actually die and give us some useful information.
