objtool throws the following warning:
arch/powerpc/kvm/booke.o: warning: objtool: kvmppc_fill_pt_regs+0x30:
unannotated intra-function call
Fix the warning by setting the value of 'nip' using the _THIS_IP_ macro,
without using an assembly bl/mflr sequence to save the instruction
pointer.

Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman:
- Add powerpc qspinlock implementation optimised for large system
scalability and paravirt. See the merge message for more details
- Enable objtool to be built on powerpc to generate mcount locations
- Use a temporary mm for code patching with the Radix MMU, so the
writable mapping is restricted to the patching CPU
- Add an option to build the 64-bit big-endian kernel with the ELFv2
ABI
- Sanitise user registers on interrupt entry on 64-bit Book3S
- Many other small features and fixes

Objtool does not add STT_NOTYPE symbols with size 0 to the rbtree, which
is why find_call_destination() function is not able to find the
destination symbol for 'bl' instruction. For such symbols, objtool is
throwing unannotated intra-function call warnings in assembly files. Fix
these warnings by annotating those symbols with SYM_FUNC_START_LOCAL and
SYM_FUNC_END macros, inorder to set symbol type to STT_FUNC and symbol
size accordingly.

32-bit does not trace_irqs_off() to match the trace_irqs_on() call in
kvmppc_fix_ee_before_entry(). This can lead to irqs being enabled twice
in the trace, and the irqs-off region between guest exit and the host
enabling local irqs again is not properly traced.
64-bit code does call this, but from asm code where volatiles are live
and so incorrectly get clobbered.
Move the irq reconcile into C to fix both problems.

Pull kvm updates from Paolo Bonzini:
"ARM64:
- Enable the per-vcpu dirty-ring tracking mechanism, together with an
option to keep the good old dirty log around for pages that are
dirtied by something other than a vcpu.
- Switch to the relaxed parallel fault handling, using RCU to delay
page table reclaim and giving better performance under load.
- Relax the MTE ABI, allowing a VMM to use the MAP_SHARED mapping
option, which multi-process VMMs such as crosvm rely on (see merge
commit 382b5b87a97d: "Fix a number of issues with MTE, such as
races on the tags being initialised vs the PG_mte_tagged flag as
well as the lack of support for VM_SHARED when KVM is involved.
Patches from Catalin Marinas and Peter Collingbourne").
- Merge the pKVM shadow vcpu state tracking that allows the
hypervisor to have its own view of a vcpu, keeping that state
private.
- Add support for the PMUv3p5 architecture revision, bringing support
for 64bit counters on systems that support it, and fix the
no-quite-compliant CHAIN-ed counter support for the machines that
actually exist out there.
- Fix a handful of minor issues around 52bit VA/PA support (64kB
pages only) as a prefix of the oncoming support for 4kB and 16kB
pages.
- Pick a small set of documentation and spelling fixes, because no
good merge window would be complete without those.
s390:
- Second batch of the lazy destroy patches
- First batch of KVM changes for kernel virtual != physical address
support
- Removal of a unused function
x86:
- Allow compiling out SMM support
- Cleanup and documentation of SMM state save area format
- Preserve interrupt shadow in SMM state save area
- Respond to generic signals during slow page faults
- Fixes and optimizations for the non-executable huge page errata
fix.
- Reprogram all performance counters on PMU filter change
- Cleanups to Hyper-V emulation and tests
- Process Hyper-V TLB flushes from a nested guest (i.e. from a L2
guest running on top of a L1 Hyper-V hypervisor)
- Advertise several new Intel features
- x86 Xen-for-KVM:
- Allow the Xen runstate information to cross a page boundary
- Allow XEN_RUNSTATE_UPDATE flag behaviour to be configured
- Add support for 32-bit guests in SCHEDOP_poll
- Notable x86 fixes and cleanups:
- One-off fixes for various emulation flows (SGX, VMXON, NRIPS=0).
- Reinstate IBPB on emulated VM-Exit that was incorrectly dropped
a few years back when eliminating unnecessary barriers when
switching between vmcs01 and vmcs02.
- Clean up vmread_error_trampoline() to make it more obvious that
params must be passed on the stack, even for x86-64.
- Let userspace set all supported bits in MSR_IA32_FEAT_CTL
irrespective of the current guest CPUID.
- Fudge around a race with TSC refinement that results in KVM
incorrectly thinking a guest needs TSC scaling when running on a
CPU with a constant TSC, but no hardware-enumerated TSC
frequency.
- Advertise (on AMD) that the SMM_CTL MSR is not supported
- Remove unnecessary exports
Generic:
- Support for responding to signals during page faults; introduces
new FOLL_INTERRUPTIBLE flag that was reviewed by mm folks
Selftests:
- Fix an inverted check in the access tracking perf test, and restore
support for asserting that there aren't too many idle pages when
running on bare metal.
- Fix build errors that occur in certain setups (unsure exactly what
is unique about the problematic setup) due to glibc overriding
static_assert() to a variant that requires a custom message.
- Introduce actual atomics for clear/set_bit() in selftests
- Add support for pinning vCPUs in dirty_log_perf_test.
- Rename the so called "perf_util" framework to "memstress".
- Add a lightweight psuedo RNG for guest use, and use it to randomize
the access pattern and write vs. read percentage in the memstress
tests.
- Add a common ucall implementation; code dedup and pre-work for
running SEV (and beyond) guests in selftests.
- Provide a common constructor and arch hook, which will eventually
be used by x86 to automatically select the right hypercall (AMD vs.
Intel).
- A bunch of added/enabled/fixed selftests for ARM64, covering
memslots, breakpoints, stage-2 faults and access tracking.
- x86-specific selftest changes:
- Clean up x86's page table management.
- Clean up and enhance the "smaller maxphyaddr" test, and add a
related test to cover generic emulation failure.
- Clean up the nEPT support checks.
- Add X86_PROPERTY_* framework to retrieve multi-bit CPUID values.
- Fix an ordering issue in the AMX test introduced by recent
conversions to use kvm_cpu_has(), and harden the code to guard
against similar bugs in the future. Anything that tiggers
caching of KVM's supported CPUID, kvm_cpu_has() in this case,
effectively hides opt-in XSAVE features if the caching occurs
before the test opts in via prctl().
Documentation:
- Remove deleted ioctls from documentation
- Clean up the docs for the x86 MSR filter.
- Various fixes"

virt/kvm/irqchip.c is including "irq.h" from the arch-specific KVM source
directory (i.e. not from arch/*/include) for the sole purpose of retrieving
irqchip_in_kernel.
Making the function inline in a header that is already included,
such as asm/kvm_host.h, is not possible because it needs to look at
struct kvm which is defined after asm/kvm_host.h is included. So add a
kvm_arch_irqchip_in_kernel non-inline function; irqchip_in_kernel() is
only performance critical on arm64 and x86, and the non-inline function
is enough on all other architectures.
irq.h can then be deleted from all architectures except x86.

Add a new "interruptible" flag showing that the caller is willing to be
interrupted by signals during the __gfn_to_pfn_memslot() request. Wire it
up with a FOLL_INTERRUPTIBLE flag that we've just introduced.

Since 27674ef6c73f ("mm: remove the extra ZONE_DEVICE struct page
refcount") device private pages have no longer had an extra reference
count when the page is in use. However before handing them back to the
owning device driver we add an extra reference count such that free pages
have a reference count of one.
This makes it difficult to tell if a page is free or not because both free
and in use pages will have a non-zero refcount. Instead we should return
pages to the drivers page allocator with a zero reference count. Kernel
code can then safely use kernel functions such as get_page_unless_zero().

Patch series "Fix several device private page reference counting issues",
v2
This series aims to fix a number of page reference counting issues in
drivers dealing with device private ZONE_DEVICE pages. These result in
use-after-free type bugs, either from accessing a struct page which no
longer exists because it has been removed or accessing fields within the
struct page which are no longer valid because the page has been freed.
During normal usage it is unlikely these will cause any problems. However
without these fixes it is possible to crash the kernel from userspace.
These crashes can be triggered either by unloading the kernel module or
unbinding the device from the driver prior to a userspace task exiting.
In modules such as Nouveau it is also possible to trigger some of these
issues by explicitly closing the device file-descriptor prior to the task
exiting and then accessing device private memory.
This involves some minor changes to both PowerPC and AMD GPU code.
Unfortunately I lack hardware to test either of those so any help there
would be appreciated. The changes mimic what is done in for both Nouveau
and hmm-tests though so I doubt they will cause problems.
This patch (of 8):
When the CPU tries to access a device private page the migrate_to_ram()
callback associated with the pgmap for the page is called. However no
reference is taken on the faulting page. Therefore a concurrent migration
of the device private page can free the page and possibly the underlying
pgmap. This results in a race which can crash the kernel due to the
migrate_to_ram() function pointer becoming invalid. It also means drivers
can't reliably read the zone_device_data field because the page may have
been freed with memunmap_pages().
Close the race by getting a reference on the page while holding the ptl to
ensure it has not been freed. Unfortunately the elevated reference count
will cause the migration required to handle the fault to fail. To avoid
this failure pass the faulting page into the migrate_vma functions so that
if an elevated reference count is found it can be checked to see if it's
expected or not.

Update the guest state and timing entry/exit accounting to use the new
API, which was introduced following issues found[1]. KVM HV does
possibly call instrumented code inside the guest context, and it does
call srcu inside the guest context which is fragile at best.
Switch to the new API, moving the guest context inside the
srcu_read_lock/unlock region.

On guest entry, vcpu->cpu and vcpu->arch.thread_cpu are set after
disabling host irqs. On guest exit there is a window whre tick time
accounting briefly enables irqs before these fields are cleared.
Move them up to ensure they are cleared before host irqs are run.
This is possibly not a problem, but is more symmetric and makes the
fields less surprising.

We used to have a workaround[1] for a hang during migration that was
made ineffective when we converted the decrementer expiry to be
relative to guest timebase.
The point of the workaround was that in the absence of an explicit
decrementer expiry value provided by userspace during migration, KVM
needs to initialize dec_expires to a value that will result in an
expired decrementer after subtracting the current guest timebase. That
stops the vcpu from hanging after migration due to a decrementer
that's too large.
If the dec_expires is now relative to guest timebase, its
initialization needs to be guest timebase-relative as well, otherwise
we end up with a decrementer expiry that is still larger than the
guest timebase.

The motivation of this renaming is to make these variables and related
helper functions less mmu_notifier bound and can also be used for non
mmu_notifier based page invalidation. mmu_invalidate_* was chosen to
better describe the purpose of 'invalidating' a page that those
variables are used for.
- mmu_notifier_seq/range_start/range_end are renamed to
mmu_invalidate_seq/range_start/range_end.
- mmu_notifier_retry{_hva} helper functions are renamed to
mmu_invalidate_retry{_hva}.
- mmu_notifier_count is renamed to mmu_invalidate_in_progress to
avoid confusion with mn_active_invalidate_count.
- While here, also update kvm_inc/dec_notifier_count() to
kvm_mmu_invalidate_begin/end() to match the change for
mmu_notifier_count.

Commit aabcaf6ae2a0 ("KVM: PPC: Book3S HV P9: Move host OS save/restore
functions to built-in") added a comment in switch_pmu_to_guest
function, indicating possibility of moving PMU handling code
to perf subsystem. But perf subsystem code compilation depends upon
the enablement of CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS whereas, kvm code don't have
any dependency on this config.
Patch remove this comment as switch_pmu_to_guest functionality is
needed even if perf subsystem is disabled.

later platforms
File book3s_hv_p9_entry.c in powerpc/kvm folder consists of functions
like freeze_pmu, switch_pmu_to_guest and switch_pmu_to_host which are
specific to Performance Monitoring Unit(PMU) for power9 and later
platforms.
For better maintenance, moving pmu related code from
book3s_hv_p9_entry.c to a new file called book3s_hv_p9_perf.c,
without any logic change.
Also make corresponding changes in the Makefile to include
book3s_hv_p9_perf.c during compilation.

The existing logic in KVM to support guests calling H_RANDOM only works
on Power8, because it looks for an RNG in the device tree, but on Power9
we just use darn.
In addition the existing code needs to work in real mode, so we have the
special cased powernv_get_random_real_mode() to deal with that.
Instead just have KVM call ppc_md.get_random_seed(), and do the real
mode check inside of there, that way we use whatever RNG is available,
including darn on Power9.
Fixes: e928e9cb3601 ("KVM: PPC: Book3S HV: Add fast real-mode H_RANDOM implementation.")

Since commit 87c78b612f4f ("powerpc: Fix all occurences of "the the"")
fixed "the the", there's now a steady stream of patches fixing other
duplicate words.
Just fix them all at once, to save the overhead of dealing with
individual patches for each case.
This leaves a few cases of "that that", which in some contexts is
correct.

KVM manages emulated TCE tables for guest LIOBNs by a two level table
which maps up to 128TiB with 16MB IOMMU pages (enabled in QEMU by default)
and MAX_ORDER=11 (the kernel's default). Note that the last level of
the table is allocated when actual TCE is updated.
However these tables are created via ioctl() on kvmfd and the userspace
can trigger WARN_ON_ONCE_GFP(order >= MAX_ORDER, gfp) in mm/page_alloc.c
and flood dmesg.
This adds __GFP_NOWARN.

Alter the data collection points for the debug timing code in the P9
path to be more in line with what the code does. The points where we
accumulate time are now the following:
vcpu_entry: From vcpu_run_hv entry until the start of the inner loop;
guest_entry: From the start of the inner loop until the guest entry in
asm;
in_guest: From the guest entry in asm until the return to KVM C code;
guest_exit: From the return into KVM C code until the corresponding
hypercall/page fault handling or re-entry into the guest;
hypercall: Time spent handling hcalls in the kernel (hcalls can go to
QEMU, not accounted here);
page_fault: Time spent handling page faults;
vcpu_exit: vcpu_run_hv exit (almost no code here currently).
Like before, these are exposed in debugfs in a file called
"timings". There are four values:
- number of occurrences of the accumulation point;
- total time the vcpu spent in the phase in ns;
- shortest time the vcpu spent in the phase in ns;
- longest time the vcpu spent in the phase in ns;
