Masahiro Yamada made some clean-up in the build system to address reports by the 0day bot. The most notable changes come from Artur Rojek who addressed a number of issues in the DMA code, in particular a fix for the DMA channel offset calculation that was introduced in in 7f47c7189b3e ("sh: dma: More legacy cpu dma chainsawing.") in 2012! Together with another change to correct the number of DMA channels for each SuperH SoC according to specification, Artur's series unbreaks the kernel on the SH7709 SoC allowing Linux to boot on the HP Jornada 680 handheld again. Summary: - Provide unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() in asm/io.h - dma: Correct the number of DMA channels for SH7709 - dma: Drop incorrect SH_DMAC_BASE1 definition for SH4 - dma: Fix DMA channel offset calculation - Remove compiler flag duplication - Refactor header include path addition - Move build rule for cchips/hd6446x/ to arch/sh/Kbuild - Fix -Wmissing-include-dirs warnings for various platforms - Avoid using IRQ0 on SH3 and SH4 - j2: Use ioremap() to translate device tree address into kernel memory" * tag 'sh-for-v6.5-tag1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/glaubitz/sh-linux: sh: Provide unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() in asm/io.h sh: dma: Correct the number of DMA channels for SH7709 sh: dma: Drop incorrect SH_DMAC_BASE1 definition for SH4 sh: dma: Fix DMA channel offset calculation sh: Remove compiler flag duplication sh: Refactor header include path addition sh: Move build rule for cchips/hd6446x/ to arch/sh/Kbuild sh: Fix -Wmissing-include-dirs warnings for various platforms sh: Avoid using IRQ0 on SH3 and SH4 sh: j2: Use ioremap() to translate device tree address into kernel memory

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() function has no prototype on the sh architecture which does not include asm-generic/io.h. This results in the following build failure: drivers/char/mem.c: In function 'read_mem': drivers/char/mem.c:164:25: error: implicit declaration of function 'unxlate_dev_mem_ptr' This compile error is now seen because commit 99b619b37ae1 ("mips: provide unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() in asm/io.h") removed the weak function which was previously in place to handle this problem. Add a trivial macro to the sh header to provide the now missing dummy function. Instead of a 6-parameter horror that forced u128 - u64/u64-halves layout details on the interface and exposed users to complexity, fragility & bugs, use a natural 3-parameter interface with u128 types. - Restructure the generated atomic headers, and add kerneldoc comments for all of the generic atomic{,64,_long}_t operations. The generated definitions are much cleaner now, and come with documentation. - Implement lock_set_cmp_fn() on lockdep, for defining an ordering when taking multiple locks of the same type. This gets rid of one use of lockdep_set_novalidate_class() in the bcache code. - Fix raw_cpu_generic_try_cmpxchg() bug due to an unintended variable shadowing generating garbage code on Clang on certain ARM builds. * tag 'locking-core-2023-06-27' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (43 commits) locking/atomic: scripts: fix ${atomic}_dec_if_positive() kerneldoc percpu: Fix self-assignment of __old in raw_cpu_generic_try_cmpxchg() locking/atomic: treewide: delete arch_atomic_*() kerneldoc locking/atomic: docs: Add atomic operations to the driver basic API documentation locking/atomic: scripts: generate kerneldoc comments docs: scripts: kernel-doc: accept bitwise negation like ~@var locking/atomic: scripts: simplify raw_atomic*() definitions locking/atomic: scripts: simplify raw_atomic_long*() definitions locking/atomic: scripts: split pfx/name/sfx/order locking/atomic: scripts: restructure fallback ifdeffery locking/atomic: scripts: build raw_atomic_long*() directly locking/atomic: treewide: use raw_atomic*_<op>() locking/atomic: scripts: add trivial raw_atomic*_<op>() locking/atomic: scripts: factor out order template generation locking/atomic: scripts: remove leftover "${mult}" locking/atomic: scripts: remove bogus order parameter locking/atomic: xtensa: add preprocessor symbols locking/atomic: x86: add preprocessor symbols locking/atomic: sparc: add preprocessor symbols locking/atomic: sh: add preprocessor symbols ...

Other atomics are optional, and don't exist in some configurations (e.g. not all architectures implement the 128-bit cmpxchg ops). Subsequent patches will require that architectures define a preprocessor symbol for any atomic (or ordering variant) which is optional. This will make the fallback ifdeffery more robust, and simplify future changes. Add the required definitions to arch/sh. | * sh/mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVEDavid Hildenbrand2023-02-031-12/+42
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by using bit 6 in the PTE, reducing the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case to 5 bits. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type (MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused. Interrestingly, the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case could currently overlap with the _PAGE_PRESENT bit, because there is a sneaky shift by 1 in __pte_to_swp_entry() and __swp_entry_to_pte(). Bit 0-7 in the architecture specific swap PTE would get shifted to bit 1-8 in the PTE. As generic MM uses 5 bits only, this didn't matter so far. While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry(). |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The RNG always mixes in the Linux version extremely early in boot. It also always includes a cycle counter, not only during early boot, but each and every time it is invoked prior to being fully initialized. Together, this means that the use of additional xors inside of the various stackprotector.h files is superfluous and over-complicated. Instead, we can get exactly the same thing, but better, by just calling `get_random_canary()`. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Optimize internal hw_breakpoint state if the architecture's number of breakpoint slots is constant. This avoids several kmalloc() calls and potentially unnecessary failures if the allocations fail, as well as subtly improves code generation and cache locality. The protocol is that if an architecture defines hw_breakpoint_slots via the preprocessor, it must be constant and the same for all types. The most notable new feature here is the addition of the memcpy() overflow warning (under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE), which is the next step on the path to killing the common class of "trivially detectable" buffer overflow conditions (i.e. on arrays with sizes known at compile time) that have resulted in many exploitable vulnerabilities over the years (e.g. BleedingTooth). This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees. All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also either fixed in their respective trees or in flight. The commit message in commit 54d9469bc515 ("fortify: Add run-time WARN for cross-field memcpy()") for the feature has extensive details, but I'll repeat here that this is a warning _only_, and is not intended to actually block overflows (yet). The many patches fixing array sizes and struct members have been landing for several years now, and we're finally able to turn this on to find any remaining stragglers. Summary: Various fixes across several hardening areas: - loadpin: Fix verity target enforcement (Matthias Kaehlcke). - zero-call-used-regs: Add missing clobbers in paravirt (Bill Wendling). - CFI: clean up sparc function pointer type mismatches (Bart Van Assche). - Clang: Adjust compiler flag detection for various Clang changes (Sami Tolvanen, Kees Cook). - fortify: Fix warnings in arch-specific code in sh, ARM, and xen. Improvements to existing features: - testing: improve overflow KUnit test, introduce fortify KUnit test, add more coverage to LKDTM tests (Bart Van Assche, Kees Cook). - overflow: Relax overflow type checking for wider utility. New features: - string: Introduce strtomem() and strtomem_pad() to fill a gap in strncpy() replacement needs. - um: Enable FORTIFY_SOURCE support. - fortify: Enable run-time struct member memcpy() overflow warning" * tag 'hardening-v6.1-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux: (27 commits) Makefile.extrawarn: Move -Wcast-function-type-strict to W=1 hardening: Remove Clang's enable flag for -ftrivial-auto-var-init=zero sparc: Unbreak the build x86/paravirt: add extra clobbers with ZERO_CALL_USED_REGS enabled x86/paravirt: clean up typos and grammaros fortify: Convert to struct vs member helpers fortify: Explicitly check bounds are compile-time constants x86/entry: Work around Clang __bdos() bug ARM: decompressor: Include .data.rel.ro.local fortify: Adjust KUnit test for modular build sh: machvec: Use char[] for section boundaries kunit/memcpy: Avoid pathological compile-time string size lib: Improve the is_signed_type() kunit test LoadPin: Require file with verity root digests to have a header dm: verity-loadpin: Only trust verity targets with enforcement LoadPin: Fix Kconfig doc about format of file with verity digests um: Enable FORTIFY_SOURCE lkdtm: Update tests for memcpy() run-time warnings fortify: Add run-time WARN for cross-field memcpy() fortify: Use SIZE_MAX instead of (size_t)-1 ...

Adjust all the prototypes to the following standard: ret bool retval can be only 0 or 1 nr unsigned long native; signed makes no sense addr volatile unsigned long * bitmaps are arrays of ulongs Next, some architectures don't define 'arch_' versions as they don't support instrumentation, others do. To make sure there is always the same set of callables present and to ease any potential future changes, make them all follow the rule: * architecture-specific files define only 'arch_' versions; * non-prefixed versions can be defined only in asm-generic files; and place the non-prefixed definitions into a new file in asm-generic to be included by non-instrumented architectures. Finally, add some static assertions in order to prevent people from making a mess in this room again. I also used the %__always_inline attribute consistently, so that they always get resolved to the actual operations.
