* sparc,sparc64: unify kernel/Sam Ravnborg2008-12-041-682/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | o Move all files from sparc64/kernel/ to sparc/kernel - rename as appropriate o Update sparc/Makefile to the changes o Update sparc/kernel/Makefile to include the sparc64 files NOTE: This commit changes link order on sparc64! Link order had to change for either of sparc32 and sparc64. And assuming sparc64 see more testing than sparc32 change link order on sparc64 where issues will be caught faster. * compat: generic compat get/settimeofdayChristoph Hellwig2008-10-161-62/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nothing arch specific in get/settimeofday. The details of the timeval conversion varied a little from arch to arch, but all with the same results. Also add an extern declaration for sys_tz to linux/time.h because externs in .c files are fowned upon. I'll kill the externs in various other files in a sparate patch. * compat: move cp_compat_stat to common codeChristoph Hellwig2008-10-161-35/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | struct stat / compat_stat is the same on all architectures, so cp_compat_stat should be, too. Turns out it is, except that various architectures have slightly and some high2lowuid/high2lowgid or the direct assignment instead of the SET_UID/SET_GID that expands to the correct one anyway. This patch replaces the arch-specific cp_compat_stat implementations with a common one based on the x86-64 one. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: David S. * sparc: Remove old style signal frame support.David S. Miller2008-04-271-9/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Back around the same time we were bootstrapping the first 32-bit sparc Linux kernel with a SunOS userland, we made the signal frame match that of SunOS. By the time we even started putting together a native Linux userland for 32-bit Sparc we realized this layout wasn't sufficient for Linux's needs. Therefore we changed the layout, yet kept support for the old style signal frame layout in there. The detection mechanism is that we had sys_sigaction() start passing in a negative signal number to indicate "new style signal frames please". Anyways, no binaries exist in the world that use the old stuff. In fact, I bet Jakub Jelinek and myself are the only two people who ever had such binaries to be honest. So let's get rid of this stuff. I added an assertion using WARN_ON_ONCE() that makes sure 32-bit applications are passing in that negative signal number still. Signed-off-by: David S. Additionally the sys_utime function was changed to match compat_sys_utime which already use do_utimes instead of duplicating the work. Also, the completely missing futimensat() functionality is added. We have such a function in glibc but we have to resort to using /proc/self/fd/* which not everybody likes (chroot etc). * [PATCH] Common compat_sys_sysinfoKyle McMartin2007-02-111-64/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that almost all architectures implemented exactly the same sys32_sysinfo... except parisc, where a bug was to be found in handling of the uptime. So let's remove a whole whack of code for fun and profit. Cribbed compat_sys_sysinfo from x86_64's implementation, since I figured it would be the best tested. This patch incorporates Arnd's suggestion of not using set_fs/get_fs, but instead extracting out the common code from sys_sysinfo. * | [PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbersDavid Howells2006-10-031-0/+5
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when communicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system. They are required because some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS for example. The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace automatically where the arch supports it. Problems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode number returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and failing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and so overlaps occur. This patch: Make filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit inode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace. The stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where available and where possible. If it is not possible to represent the inode number supplied by the filesystem in the field provided by userspace, then error EOVERFLOW will be issued. Similarly, the getdents/readdir functions now pass the full 64-bit inode number to userspace where possible, returning EOVERFLOW instead when a directory entry is encountered that can't be properly represented. Note that this means that some inodes will not be stat'able on a 32-bit system with old libraries where they were before - but it does mean that there will be no ambiguity over what a 32-bit inode number refers to. Note similarly that directory scans may be cut short with an error on a 32-bit system with old libraries where the scan would work before for the same reasons. It is judged unlikely that this situation will occur because modern glibc uses 64-bit capable versions of stat and getdents class functions exclusively, and that older systems are unlikely to encounter unrepresentable inode numbers anyway. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Here is a series of patches which introduce in total 13 new system calls which take a file descriptor/filename pair instead of a single file name. These functions, openat etc, have been discussed on numerous occasions. They are needed to implement race-free filesystem traversal, they are necessary to implement a virtual per-thread current working directory (think multi-threaded backup software), etc. We have in glibc today implementations of the interfaces which use the /proc/self/fd magic. But this code is rather expensive. Here are some results (similar to what Jim Meyering posted before). The test creates a deep directory hierarchy on a tmpfs filesystem. Then rm -fr is used to remove all directories. Without syscall support I get this: real 0m31.921s user 0m0.688s sys 0m31.234s With syscall support the results are much better: real 0m20.699s user 0m0.536s sys 0m20.149s The interfaces are for obvious reasons currently not much used. But they'll be used. coreutils (and Jeff's posixutils) are already using them. Furthermore, code like ftw/fts in libc (maybe even glob) will also start using them. I expect a patch to make follow soon. Every program which is walking the filesystem tree will benefit. * [PATCH] remove duplicated sys_open32() code from 64bit archsMiklos Szeredi2005-09-081-23/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | 64 bit architectures all implement their own compatibility sys_open(), when in fact the difference is simply not forcing the O_LARGEFILE flag. So use the a common function instead. * [PATCH] sparc64: Fix statDavid S. Miller2005-04-191-3/+65
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Like Alpha, sparc64's struct stat was defined before we had the nanosecond et al. fields added. So like Alpha I have to cons up a struct stat64 to get this stuff. I'll work on the glibc bits soon. Also, we were forgetting to fill in the nanosecond fields in the sparc compat stat64 syscalls. Signed-off-by: David S. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
