this patch fix a bug in how the pebs->real_ip is handled in the PEBS
handler. real_ip only exists in Haswell and later processor. It is
actually the eventing IP, i.e., where the event occurred. As opposed
to the pebs->ip which is the PEBS interrupt IP which is always off
by one.
The problem is that the real_ip just like the IP needs to be fixed up
because PEBS does not record all the machine state registers, and
in particular the code segement (cs). This is why we have the set_linear_ip()
function. The problem was that set_linear_ip() was only used on the pebs->ip
and not the pebs->real_ip.
We have profiles which ran into invalid callstacks because of this.
Here is an example:
..... 0: ffffffffffffff80 recent entry, marker kernel v
..... 1: 000000000040044d <= user address in kernel space!
..... 2: fffffffffffffe00 marker enter user v
..... 3: 000000000040044d
..... 4: 00000000004004b6 oldest entry
Debugging output in get_perf_callchain():
[ 857.769909] CALLCHAIN: CPU8 ip=40044d regs->cs=10 user_mode(regs)=0
The problem is that the kernel entry in 1: points to a user level
address. How can that be?
The reason is that with PEBS sampling the instruction that caused the event
to occur and the instruction where the CPU was when the interrupt was posted
may be far apart. And sometime during that time window, the privilege level may
change. This happens, for instance, when the PEBS sample is taken close to a
kernel entry point. Here PEBS, eventing IP (real_ip) captured a user level
instruction. But by the time the PMU interrupt fired, the processor had already
entered kernel space. This is why the debug output shows a user address with
user_mode() false.
The problem comes from PEBS not recording the code segment (cs) register.
The register is used in x86_64 to determine if executing in kernel vs user
space. This is okay because the kernel has a software workaround called
set_linear_ip(). But the issue in setup_pebs_sample_data() is that
set_linear_ip() is never called on the real_ip value when it is available
(Haswell and later) and precise_ip > 1.
This patch fixes this problem and eliminates the callchain discrepancy.
The patch restructures the code around set_linear_ip() to minimize the number
of times the IP has to be set.

BAU uses the old alloc_initr_gate90 method to setup its interrupt. This
fails silently as the BAU vector is in the range of APIC vectors that are
registered to the spurious interrupt handler. As a consequence BAU
broadcasts are not handled, and the broadcast source CPU hangs.
Update BAU to use new idt structure.

Segment registers must be synchronized prior to any code that may
trigger a call to emulation_required()/guest_state_valid(), e.g.
vmx_set_cr0(). Because preparing vmcs02 writes segmentation fields
directly, i.e. doesn't use vmx_set_segment(), emulation_required
will not be re-evaluated when synchronizing the segment registers,
which can result in L0 incorrectly starting emulation of L2.

Since commit 6964e6a4e489 ("KVM: PPC: Book3S HV: Do SLB load/unload
with guest LPCR value loaded", 2018-01-11), we have been seeing
occasional machine check interrupts on POWER8 systems when running
KVM guests, due to SLB multihit errors.
This turns out to be due to the guest exit code reloading the host
SLB entries from the SLB shadow buffer when the SLB was not previously
cleared in the guest entry path. This can happen because the path
which skips from the guest entry code to the guest exit code without
entering the guest now does the skip before the SLB is cleared and
loaded with guest values, but the host values are loaded after the
point in the guest exit path that we skip to.
To fix this, we move the code that reloads the host SLB values up
so that it occurs just before the point in the guest exit code (the
label guest_bypass:) where we skip to from the guest entry path.

The SLB bad address handler's trap number fixup does not preserve the
low bit that indicates nonvolatile GPRs have not been saved. This
leads save_nvgprs to skip saving them, and subsequent functions and
return from interrupt will think they are saved.
This causes kernel branch-to-garbage debugging to not have correct
registers, can also cause userspace to have its registers clobbered
after a segfault.

On POWER9, under some circumstances, a broadcast TLB invalidation
might complete before all previous stores have drained, potentially
allowing stale stores from becoming visible after the invalidation.
This works around it by doubling up those TLB invalidations which was
verified by HW to be sufficient to close the risk window.
This will be documented in a yet-to-be-published errata.

On POWER9 the Nest MMU may fail to invalidate some translations when
doing a tlbie "by PID" or "by LPID" that is targeted at the TLB only
and not the page walk cache.
This works around it by forcing such invalidations to escalate to

Currently, when using coprocessors (which use the Nest MMU), we
simply increment the active_cpu count to force all TLB invalidations
to be come broadcast.
Unfortunately, due to an errata in POWER9, we will need to know
more specifically that coprocessors are in use.
This maintains a separate copros counter in the MMU context for
that purpose.
NB. The commit mentioned in the fixes tag below is not at fault for
the bug we're fixing in this commit and the next, but this fix applies
on top the infrastructure it introduced.

irq_happened
force_external_irq_replay() can be called in the do_IRQ path with
interrupts hard enabled and soft disabled if may_hard_irq_enable() set
MSR[EE]=1. It updates local_paca->irq_happened with a load, modify,
store sequence. If a maskable interrupt hits during this sequence, it
will go to the masked handler to be marked pending in irq_happened.
This update will be lost when the interrupt returns and the store
instruction executes. This can result in unpredictable latencies,
timeouts, lockups, etc.
Fix this by ensuring hard interrupts are disabled before modifying
irq_happened.
This could cause any maskable asynchronous interrupt to get lost, but
it was noticed on P9 SMP system doing RDMA NVMe target over 100GbE,
so very high external interrupt rate and high IPI rate. The hang was
bisected down to enabling doorbell interrupts for IPIs. These provided
an interrupt type that could run at high rates in the do_IRQ path,
stressing the race.

When running virtualised the powerpc kernel is able to run the system
in "compat mode" - which means the kernel and hardware are pretending
to userspace that the CPU is an older version than it actually is.
AT_BASE_PLATFORM is an AUXV entry that we export to userspace for use
when we're running in that mode, which tells userspace the "platform"
string for the real CPU version, as opposed to the faked version.
Although we don't support compat mode when using DT CPU features, and
arguably don't need to set AT_BASE_PLATFORM, the existing cputable
based code always sets it even when we're running bare metal. That
means the lack of AT_BASE_PLATFORM is a user-visible artifact of the
fact that the kernel is using DT CPU features, which we don't want.
So set it in the DT CPU features code also.
This results in eg:
$ LD_SHOW_AUXV=1 /bin/true | grep "AT_.*PLATFORM"
AT_PLATFORM: power9
AT_BASE_PLATFORM:power9

This patch fixes a bootproblem with the Bananapi M2 board. Since there
are some regulators missing we add them right now. Those values come
from the schematic, below you can find a small overview:
* reg_aldo1: 3,3V, powers the wifi
* reg_aldo2: 2,5V, powers the IO of the RTL8211E
* reg_aldo3: 3,3V, powers the audio
* reg_dldo1: 3,0V, powers the RTL8211E
* reg_dldo2: 2,8V, powers the analog part of the csi
* reg_dldo3: 3,3V, powers misc
* reg_eldo1: 1,8V, powers the csi
* reg_ldo_io1:1,8V, powers the gpio
* reg_dc5ldo: needs to be always on
This patch updates also the vmmc-supply properties on the mmc0 and mmc2
node to use the allready existent regulators.
We can now remove the sunxi-common-regulators.dtsi include since we
don't need it anymore.

We are still using custom SRAM code for some SoCs and are not marking
the PM code mapped to SRAM as read-only and executable after we're
done. With CONFIG_DEBUG_WX=y, we will get "Found insecure W+X mapping

Let's fix this issue the same way as commit 728bbe75c82f ("misc: sram:
Introduce support code for protect-exec sram type") is doing for
drivers/misc/sram-exec.c.
On omap3, we need to restore SRAM when returning from off mode after
idle, so init time configuration is not enough.
And as we no longer have users for omap_sram_push_address() we can
make it static while at it.
Note that eventually we should be using sram-exec.c for all SoCs.

When we removed the inclusion of skeleton.dtsi from the device trees, we
broke booting for systems with bootloaders that aren't device tre aware.
This can be seen, for example, when appending the device tree blob to
the kernel image.
The reason booting broke was that the kernel lacked the device_type
label in the memory node. Add in a default memory node wth the
device_type. It can contain the memory address as the location is fixed
for each SoC generation, but the size needs to be added by the
bootloader or the board specific dts.

| | | | | | | | | | |
Back in the early days when gru devices were still under development
we found an issue where the WiFi reset line needed to be configured as
early as possible during the boot process to avoid the WiFi module
being in a bad state.
We found that the way to get the kernel to do this in the earliest
possible place was to configure this line in the pinctrl hogs, so
that's what we did. For some history here you can see
<http://crosreview.com/368770>. After the time that change landed in
the kernel, we landed a firmware change to configure this line even
earlier. See <http://crosreview.com/399919>. However, even after the
firmware change landed we kept the kernel change to deal with the fact
that some people working on devices might take a little while to
update their firmware.
At this there are definitely zero devices out in the wild that have
firmware without the fix in it. Specifically looking in the firmware
branch several critically important fixes for memory stability landed
after the patch in coreboot and I know we didn't ship without those.
Thus, by now, everyone should have the new firmware and it's safe to
not have the kernel set this up in a pinctrl hog.
Historically, even though it wasn't needed to have this in a pinctrl
hog, we still kept it since it didn't hurt. Pinctrl would apply the
default hog at bootup and then would never touch things again. That
all changed with commit 981ed1bfbc6c ("pinctrl: Really force states
during suspend/resume"). After that commit then we'll re-apply the
default hog at resume time and that can screw up the reset state of
WiFi. ...and on rk3399 if you touch a device on PCIe in the wrong way
then the whole system can go haywire. That's what was happening.
Specifically you'd resume a rk3399-gru-* device and it would mostly
resume, then would crash with some crazy weird crash.
One could say, perhaps, that the recent pinctrl change was at fault
(and should be fixed) since it changed behavior. ...but that's not
really true. The device tree for rk3399-gru is really to blame.
Specifically since the pinctrl is defined in the hog and not in the
"wlan-pd-n" node then the actual user of this pin doesn't have a
pinctrl entry for it. That's bad.
Let's fix our problems by just moving the control of
"wlan_module_reset_l pinctrl" out of the hog and put them in the
proper place.
NOTE: in theory, I think it should actually be possible to have a pin
controlled _both_ by the hog and by an actual device. Once the device
claims the pin I think the hog is supposed to let go. I'm not 100%
sure that this works and in any case this solution would be more
complex than is necessary.

Commit 2b05f6ae1ee5 ("ARM: ux500: remove PMU IRQ bouncer")
deleted some code to bounce and work around the weird PMU
IRQs in the DB8500 ASIC, but did a semantic mistake:
since the auxdata was now unused, the call to
of_platform_populate() was removed, but this does not
work: the default platform population will only kick in
if .init_machine() is assigned NULL, and since the U8540
was still using the callback that was not the case.
Fix this by reinstating the call to of_platform_populate(),
but pass NULL as auxdata.

Define vdso_start, vdso_end as array to avoid compile-time analysis error
for the case of built with CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE.
and, since vdso_start, vdso_end are used in vdso.c only,

If kernel is built with CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE,
compile-time error happens at this code.
- if (memcmp(&vdso_start, "177ELF", 4))
The size of "&vdso_start" is recognized as 1 byte, but n is 4,

vfp_force_reload() function in the cpu dying notifier.

There's nothing IST-worthy about #BP/int3. We don't allow kprobes
in the small handful of places in the kernel that run at CPL0 with
an invalid stack, and 32-bit kernels have used normal interrupt
gates for #BP forever.
Furthermore, we don't allow kprobes in places that have usergs while
in kernel mode, so "paranoid" is also unnecessary.
