* dma-buf: warn about dma_fence_array container rules v2Christian König2022-02-081-0/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | It's not allowed to nest another dma_fence container into a dma_fence_array or otherwise we can run into recursion. Warn about that when we create a dma_fence_array. v2: fix comment style and typo in the warning pointed out by Thomas Signed-off-by: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Reviewed-by: Thomas Hellström <thomas.hellstrom@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220204100429.2049-3-christian.koenig@amd.com
* dma_fence_array: Fix PENDING_ERROR leak in dma_fence_array_signaled()Thomas Hellström2021-11-301-1/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If a dma_fence_array is reported signaled by a call to dma_fence_is_signaled(), it may leak the PENDING_ERROR status. Fix this by clearing the PENDING_ERROR status if we return true in dma_fence_array_signaled(). v2: - Update Cc list, and add R-b. * dma-fence: Propagate errors to dma-fence-array containerChris Wilson2019-08-121-1/+31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When one of the array of fences is signaled, propagate its errors to the parent fence-array (keeping the first error to be raised). v2: Opencode cmpxchg_local to avoid compiler freakout. v3: Be careful not to flag an error if we race against signal-on-any. v4: Same applies to installing the signal cb. v5: Use cmpxchg to only set the error once before using a nifty idea by Christian to avoid changing the status after emitting the signal. * dma-buf/fence: Fix lock inversion within dma-fence-arrayChris Wilson2017-11-211-2/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Ages ago Rob Clark noted, "Currently with fence-array, we have a potential deadlock situation. If we fence_add_callback() on an array-fence, the array-fence's lock is acquired first, and in it's ->enable_signaling() callback, it will install cbs on it's array-member fences, so the array-member's lock is acquired second. But in the signal path, the array-member's lock is acquired first, and the array-fence's lock acquired second." Rob proposed either extensive changes to dma-fence to unnest the fence-array signaling, or to defer the signaling onto a workqueue. This is a more refined version of the later, that should keep the latency of the fence signaling to a minimum by using an irq-work, which is executed asap. * dma-buf: Rename struct fence to dma_fenceChris Wilson2016-10-251-0/+146
I plan to usurp the short name of struct fence for a core kernel struct, and so I need to rename the specialised fence/timeline for DMA operations to make room. A consensus was reached in https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2016-July/113083.html that making clear this fence applies to DMA operations was a good thing. Since then the patch has grown a bit as usage increases, so hopefully it remains a good thing!
