* vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacementLinus Torvalds2018-02-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL* variables as described by Al, done by this script: for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'` for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done done with de-mangling cleanups yet to come. NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost". For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al. The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we should be all done. Scripted-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

* Input: hp_sdc_rtc - fix y2038 problem in proc_showWEN Pingbo2015-10-231-26/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | hp_sdc_rtc_proc_show() use timeval to store the time, which will overflow in 2038. This patch fixes this problem by replacing timeval with timespec64. hp_sdc_rtc_proc_show() only output string, so that userspace will work normally if we apply this patch. Not all timer in i8042 have y2038 risk(handshake, match timer, etc), Replacements in those timer are just for consistency. None of these drivers appears to want to lock against other code, and they all use the BKL as the top-level lock in their file operations, meaning that there is no lock-order inversion problem. Consequently, we can remove the BKL completely, replacing it with a per-file mutex in every case. Using a scripted approach means we can avoid typos. These drivers do not seem to be under active maintainance from my brief investigation. * saner FASYNC handling on file closeAl Viro2008-11-011-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | As it is, all instances of ->release() for files that have ->fasync() need to remember to evict file from fasync lists; forgetting that creates a hole and we actually have a bunch that *does* forget. So let's keep our lives simple - let __fput() check FASYNC in file->f_flags and call ->fasync() there if it's been set. And lose that crap in ->release() instances - leaving it there is still valid, but we don't have to bother anymore. * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 3Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. * [PATCH] Correct misc_register return code handling in several driversNeil Horman2006-12-071-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Clean up several code points in which the return code from misc_register is not handled properly. Several modules failed to deregister various hooks when misc_register fails, and this patch cleans them up. Also there are a few modules that legitimately don't care about the failure status of misc register. These drivers however unilaterally call misc_deregister on module unload. Since misc_register doesn't initialize the list_head in the init_routine if it fails, the deregister operation is at risk for oopsing when list_del is called. The initial solution was to manually init the list in the miscdev structure in each of those modules, but the consensus in this thread was to consolodate and do that universally inside misc_register. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
