* Input: elantech - Prepare a complete software node for the deviceHeikki Krogerus2021-04-101-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Creating a software node and supplying that for the device instead of only the device properties in it. A software node was always created in any case to hold the additional device properties, so this change does not have any real effect. This change makes it possible to remove support for the problematic "dangling" device properties from i2c subsystem, i.e. the "properties" member from struct i2c_board_info. The problems caused by them are not related to this driver. * Input: elantech - fix protocol errors for some trackpoints in SMBus modejingle.wu2020-12-111-2/+97
| | | | | | | | | | | | There are some version of Elan trackpads that send incorrect data when in SMbus mode, unless they are switched to use 0x5f reports instead of standard 0x5e. This patch implements querying device to retrieve chips identifying data, and switching it, when needed to the alternative report. * Revert "Input: elantech - enable SMBus on new (2018+) systems"Kai-Heng Feng2019-10-161-26/+29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit 883a2a80f79ca5c0c105605fafabd1f3df99b34c. Apparently use dmi_get_bios_year() as manufacturing date isn't accurate and this breaks older laptops with new BIOS update. So let's revert this patch. There are still new HP laptops still need to use SMBus to support all features, but it'll be enabled via a whitelist. * Input: elantech - enable SMBus on new (2018+) systemsKai-Heng Feng2019-07-231-29/+25
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are some new HP laptops with Elantech touchpad that don't support multitouch. Currently we use ETP_NEW_IC_SMBUS_HOST_NOTIFY() to check if SMBus is supported, but in addition to firmware version, the bus type also informs us whether the IC can support SMBus. To avoid breaking old ICs, we will only enable SMbus support based the bus type on systems manufactured after 2018. Lastly, let's consolidate all checks into elantech_use_host_notify() and use it to determine whether to use PS/2 or SMBus. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The recent touchpads might not have all the information regarding the characteristics through the I2C port. On some Lenovo t480s, this results in the touchpad not being detected as a clickpad, and on the Lenovo P52, this results in a failure while fetching the resolution through I2C. We need to imitate the Windows behavior: fetch the data under PS/2, and limit the querries under I2C. This patch prepares this by exporting the info from PS/2. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Looks like the new generation of Lenovo machine also need to be added to the PnPID whitelist. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The current implementation of elan_i2c is known to not support those 2 laptops. So to give us some time for fixing the root of the problem, disable elan_i2c for the devices we know are not behaving properly. * Input: elantech - mark protocols v2 and v3 as semi-mtBenjamin Tissoires2016-01-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When using a protocol v2 or v3 hardware, elantech uses the function elantech_report_semi_mt_data() to report data. This devices are rather creepy because if num_finger is 3, (x2,y2) is (0,0). Yes, only one valid touch is reported. Anyway, userspace (libinput) is now confused by these (0,0) touches, and detect them as palm, and rejects them. Commit 3c0213d17a09 ("Input: elantech - fix semi-mt protocol for v3 HW") was sufficient enough for xf86-input-synaptics and libinput before it has palm rejection. Now we need to actually tell libinput that this device is a semi-mt one and it should not rely on the actual values of the 2 touches.
