* dm linear: fix linear_end_io conditional definitionDamien Le Moal2018-10-111-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The dm-linear target is independent of the dm-zoned target. For code requiring support for zoned block devices, use CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ZONED instead of CONFIG_DM_ZONED. While at it, similarly to dm linear, also enable the DM_TARGET_ZONED_HM feature in dm-flakey only if CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ZONED is defined. * dm: remove fmode_t argument from .prepare_ioctl hookMike Snitzer2018-04-041-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Use the fmode_t that is passed to dm_blk_ioctl() rather than inconsistently (varies across targets) drop it on the floor by overriding it with the fmode_t stored in 'struct dm_dev'. All the persistent reservation functions weren't using the fmode_t they got back from .prepare_ioctl so remove them. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com>

* | block: replace bi_bdev with a gendisk pointer and partitions indexChristoph Hellwig2017-08-231-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This way we don't need a block_device structure to submit I/O. The block_device has different life time rules from the gendisk and request_queue and is usually only available when the block device node is open. Other callers need to explicitly create one (e.g. the lightnvm passthrough code, or the new nvme multipathing code). For the actual I/O path all that we need is the gendisk, which exists once per block device. But given that the block layer also does partition remapping we additionally need a partition index, which is used for said remapping in generic_make_request. Note that all the block drivers generally want request_queue or sometimes the gendisk, so this removes a layer of indirection all over the stack. * dm flakey: add support for zoned block devicesDamien Le Moal2017-06-191-3/+20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With the development of file system support for zoned block devices (e.g. f2fs), having dm-flakey support these devices is interesting to improve testing. Add host-aware and host-managed zoned block devices support to in dm-flakey. The target type feature is set to DM_TARGET_ZONED_HM to indicate support for host-managed models. Also add hooks for remapping of REQ_OP_ZONE_RESET and REQ_OP_ZONE_REPORT bios. Additionally, in the bio completion path, (backward) remapping of a zone report reply is added. * block: switch bios to blk_status_tChristoph Hellwig2017-06-091-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | Replace bi_error with a new bi_status to allow for a clear conversion. * dm: don't return errnos from ->mapChristoph Hellwig2017-06-091-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | Instead use the special DM_MAPIO_KILL return value to return -EIO just like we do for the request based path. Note that dm-log-writes returned -ENOMEM in a few places, which now becomes -EIO instead. No consumer treats -ENOMEM special so this shouldn't be an issue (and it should use a mempool to start with to make guaranteed progress). * dm flakey: introduce "error_writes" featureMike Snitzer2016-12-131-9/+42
| | | | | | | | | | | Recent dm-flakey fixes, to have reads error out during the "down" interval, made it so that the previous read behaviour is no longer available. It is useful to have reads complete like normal but have writes error out, so make it possible again with a new "error_writes" feature. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com>

* block: rename bio bi_rw to bi_opfJens Axboe2016-08-071-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 63a4cc24867d, bio->bi_rw contains flags in the lower portion and the op code in the higher portions. This means that old code that relies on manually setting bi_rw is most likely going to be broken. Instead of letting that brokeness linger, rename the member, to force old and out-of-tree code to break at compile time instead of at runtime. No intended functional changes in this commit. * dm flakey: error READ bios during the down_intervalMike Snitzer2016-08-021-8/+15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the corrupt_bio_byte feature was introduced it caused READ bios to no longer be errored with -EIO during the down_interval. This had to do with the complexity of needing to submit READs if the corrupt_bio_byte feature was used. Fix it so READ bios are properly errored with -EIO; doing so early in flakey_map() as long as there isn't a match for the corrupt_bio_byte feature. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Some of the device mapper targets override the error code returned by dm_get_device() and return either -EINVAL or -ENXIO. There is nothing gained by this override. It is better to propagate the returned error code unchanged to caller. This work was motivated by hitting an issue where the underlying device was busy but -EINVAL was being returned. After this change we get -EBUSY instead and it is easier to figure out the problem. * | block: add a bi_error field to struct bioChristoph Hellwig2015-07-291-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we have two different ways to signal an I/O error on a BIO: (1) by clearing the BIO_UPTODATE flag (2) by returning a Linux errno value to the bi_end_io callback The first one has the drawback of only communicating a single possible error (-EIO), and the second one has the drawback of not beeing persistent when bios are queued up, and are not passed along from child to parent bio in the ever more popular chaining scenario. Having both mechanisms available has the additional drawback of utterly confusing driver authors and introducing bugs where various I/O submitters only deal with one of them, and the others have to add boilerplate code to deal with both kinds of error returns. So add a new bi_error field to store an errno value directly in struct bio and remove the existing mechanisms to clean all this up. * dm: fix truncated status stringsMikulas Patocka2013-03-011-4/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Avoid returning a truncated table or status string instead of setting the DM_BUFFER_FULL_FLAG when the last target of a table fills the buffer. When processing a table or status request, the function retrieve_status calls ti->type->status. If ti->type->status returns non-zero, retrieve_status assumes that the buffer overflowed and sets DM_BUFFER_FULL_FLAG. However, targets don't return non-zero values from their status method on overflow. Most targets returns always zero. If a buffer overflow happens in a target that is not the last in the table, it gets noticed during the next iteration of the loop in retrieve_status; but if a buffer overflow happens in the last target, it goes unnoticed and erroneously truncated data is returned. In the current code, the targets behave in the following way: * dm-crypt returns -ENOMEM if there is not enough space to store the key, but it returns 0 on all other overflows. * dm-thin returns errors from the status method if a disk error happened. This is incorrect because retrieve_status doesn't check the error code, it assumes that all non-zero values mean buffer overflow. * all the other targets always return 0. This patch changes the ti->type->status function to return void (because most targets don't use the return code). Overflow is detected in retrieve_status: if the status method fills up the remaining space completely, it is assumed that buffer overflow happened. * dm: reject trailing characters in sccanf inputMikulas Patocka2012-03-281-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Device mapper uses sscanf to convert arguments to numbers. The problem is that the way we use it ignores additional unmatched characters in the scanned string. For example, this `if (sscanf(string, "%d", &number) == 1)' will match a number, but also it will match number with some garbage appended, like "123abc". As a result, device mapper accepts garbage after some numbers. For example the command `dmsetup create vg1-new --table "0 16384 linear 254:1bla 34816bla"' will pass without an error. This patch fixes all sscanf uses in device mapper. It appends "%c" with a pointer to a dummy character variable to every sscanf statement. The construct `if (sscanf(string, "%d%c", &number, &dummy) == 1)' succeeds only if string is a null-terminated number (optionally preceded by some whitespace characters). If there is some character appended after the number, sscanf matches "%c", writes the character to the dummy variable and returns 2. We check the return value for 1 and consequently reject numbers with some garbage appended. * dm: do not forward ioctls from logical volumes to the underlying devicePaolo Bonzini2012-01-151-1/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | A logical volume can map to just part of underlying physical volume. In this case, it must be treated like a partition. Based on a patch from Alasdair G Kergon. * dm: flakey fix corrupt_bio_byte error pathMike Snitzer2011-09-261-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | If no arguments were provided to the corrupt_bio_byte feature an error should be returned immediately. Reported-by: Zdenek Kabelac <zkabelac@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm flakey: add corrupt_bio_byte featureMike Snitzer2011-08-021-15/+140
| | | | | | | | | Add corrupt_bio_byte feature to simulate corruption by overwriting a byte at a specified position with a specified value during intervals when the device is "down". Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm flakey: add drop_writesMike Snitzer2011-08-021-8/+55
| | | | | | | | Add 'drop_writes' option to drop writes silently while the device is 'down'. Reads are not touched. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm flakey: support feature argsMike Snitzer2011-08-021-19/+64
| | | | | | | | | | | | Add the ability to specify arbitrary feature flags when creating a flakey target. This code uses the same target argument helpers that the multipath target does. Also remove the superfluous 'dm-flakey' prefixes from the error messages, as they already contain the prefix 'flakey'. * dm flakey: use dm_target_offset and support discardsMike Snitzer2011-08-021-1/+2
| | | | | | | Use dm_target_offset() and support discards. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm: add flakey targetJosef Bacik2011-03-241-0/+212
This target is the same as the linear target except that it returns I/O errors periodically. It's been found useful in simulating failing devices for testing purposes. I needed a dm target to do some failure testing on btrfs's raid code, and Mike pointed me at this. Signed-off-by: Josef Bacik <josef@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
