* networking: introduce and use skb_put_data()Johannes Berg2017-06-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A common pattern with skb_put() is to just want to memcpy() some data into the new space, introduce skb_put_data() for this. * lib/vsprintf.c: remove %Z supportAlexey Dobriyan2017-02-281-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z. Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller. Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers. In case anyone didn't notice lib/vsprintf.o is about half of SLUB which is in my opinion is quite an achievement. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against tc_skip_sw(). 5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some unrelated changes in 'net-next'. 6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head() bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

| * net: macb: fix the RX queue reset in macb_rx()Cyrille Pitchen2016-11-301-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On macb only (not gem), when a RX queue corruption was detected from macb_rx(), the RX queue was reset: during this process the RX ring buffer descriptor was initialized by macb_init_rx_ring() but we forgot to also set bp->rx_tail to 0. Indeed, when processing the received frames, bp->rx_tail provides the macb driver with the index in the RX ring buffer of the next buffer to process. So when the whole ring buffer is reset we must also reset bp->rx_tail so the driver is synchronized again with the hardware. Since macb_init_rx_ring() is called from many locations, currently from macb_rx() and macb_init_rings(), we'd rather add the "bp->rx_tail = 0;" line inside macb_init_rx_ring() than add the very same line after each call of this function. Without this fix, the rx queue is not reset properly to recover from queue corruption and connection drop may occur. |\| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | All conflicts were simple overlapping changes except perhaps for the Thunder driver. That driver has a change_mtu method explicitly for sending a message to the hardware. If that fails it returns an error. Normally a driver doesn't need an ndo_change_mtu method becuase those are usually just range changes, which are now handled generically. But since this extra operation is needed in the Thunder driver, it has to stay. However, if the message send fails we have to restore the original MTU before the change because the entire call chain expects that if an error is thrown by ndo_change_mtu then the MTU did not change. Therefore code is added to nicvf_change_mtu to remember the original MTU, and to restore it upon nicvf_update_hw_max_frs() failue. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* | net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson2016-10-131-1/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set to 4096 to remedy that. v2: fix up lantiq_etop, missed breakage due to drive not compiling on x86 CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * net: macb: remove BUG_ON() and reset the queue to handle RX errorsCyrille Pitchen2016-03-251-10/+49
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch removes two BUG_ON() used to notify about RX queue corruptions on macb (not gem) hardware without actually handling the error. The new code skips corrupted frames but still processes faultless frames. Then it resets the RX queue before restarting the reception from a clean state. This patch is a rework of an older patch proposed by Neil Armstrong: http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/371525/ Signed-off-by: Cyrille Pitchen <cyrille.pitchen@atmel.com> Acked-by: Neil Armstrong <narmstrong@baylibre.com> Acked-by: Nicolas Ferre <nicolas.ferre@atmel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * net: macb: replace macb_writel() call by queue_writel() to update queue ISRCyrille Pitchen2016-03-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | macb_interrupt() should not use macb_writel(bp, ISR, <value>) but only queue_writel(queue, ISR, <value>). There is one IRQ and one set of {ISR, IER, IDR, IMR} [1] registers per queue on gem hardware, though only queue0 is actually used for now to receive frames: other queues can already be used to transmit frames. The queue_readl() and queue_writel() helper macros are designed to access the relevant IRQ registers. * macb: fix PHY resetSergei Shtylyov2016-03-221-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | The driver calls gpiod_set_value() with GPIOD_OUT_* instead of 0 and 1, as a result the PHY isn't really put back into reset state in macb_remove(). Moreover, the driver assumes that something else has set the GPIO direction to output, so if it has not, the PHY may not be taken out of reset in macb_probe() either... * net: macb: fix default configuration for GMAC on AT91Nicolas Ferre2016-03-141-6/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On AT91 SoCs, the User Register (USRIO) exposes a switch to configure the "Reduced" or "Traditional" version of the Media Independent Interface (RMII vs. MII or RGMII vs. GMII). As on the older EMAC version, on GMAC, this switch is set by default to the non-reduced type of interface, so use the existing capability and extend it to GMII as well. We then keep the current logic in the macb_init() function. The capabilities of sama5d2, sama5d4 and sama5d3 GEM interface are updated in the macb_config structure to be able to properly enable them with a traditional interface (GMII or MII). * net: macb: clear interrupts when disabling themNathan Sullivan2016-01-151-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | Disabling interrupts with the IDR register does not stop the macb hardware from asserting its interrupt line if there are interrupts pending. Always clear the interrupts using ISR, and be sure to write it on hardware that is not read-to-clear, like Zynq. Not doing so will cause interrupts when the driver doesn't expect them. | | | | | | | | | | | | On some platforms, the macb integration does not use the USRIO register to configure the (R)MII port and clocks. When the register is not implemented and the MACB error signal is connected to the bus error, reading or writing to the USRIO register can trigger some Imprecise External Aborts on ARM platforms.
