* net: variables reach -1, but 0 testedRoel Kluin2009-02-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | while (timeout--) { ... } timeout becomes -1 if the loop isn't ended otherwise, not 0. Signed-off-by: Roel Kluin <roel.kluin@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-3Wang Chen2008-11-131-7/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. * drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller2008-11-041-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* sparc: Move SBUS DMA attribute interfaces out of asm/sbus.hDavid S. Miller2008-08-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | This is in preparation for the subsequent asm/sbus.h removal. Also, make these routines take a "struct device" or no arguments, as appropriate. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* sparc: Convert all SBUS drivers to dma_*() interfaces.David S. Miller2008-08-291-22/+23
| | | | | | | | | And all the SBUS dma interfaces are deleted. A private implementation remains inside of the 32-bit sparc port which exists only for the sake of the implementation of dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* sparc: Make SBUS DMA interfaces take struct device.David S. Miller2008-08-291-6/+6
| | | | | | | This is the first step in converting all the SBUS drivers over to generic dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [NET] drivers/net: statistics cleanup #1 -- save memory and shrink codeJeff Garzik2007-10-111-56/+49
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We now have struct net_device_stats embedded in struct net_device, and the default ->get_stats() hook does the obvious thing for us. Run through drivers/net/* and remove the driver-local storage of statistics, and driver-local ->get_stats() hook where applicable. This was just the low-hanging fruit in drivers/net; plenty more drivers remain to be updated. * [NET]: Nuke SET_MODULE_OWNER macro.Ralf Baechle2007-10-111-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | It's been a useless no-op for long enough in 2.6 so I figured it's time to remove it. The number of people that could object because they're maintaining unified 2.4 and 2.6 drivers is probably rather small. * [NET]: Kill eth_copy_and_sum().David S. Miller2007-07-111-2/+2
| | | | | | | | It hasn't "summed" anything in over 7 years, and it's just a straight mempcy ala skb_copy_to_linear_data() so just get rid of it. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [SUNQE]: Fix MAC address assignment.Marcel van Nies2007-04-221-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The MAC address assignment at module loading is simply forgotten. The bug at module unloading is caused by an incorrect call. The bug at module unloading does not only happen for sunqe, sunlance and sunhme (sbus) suffer from it too. I've tested this on my SS20. * IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells2006-10-051-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
