This reverts commit 36a15e1cb134c0395261ba1940762703f778438c.
The usage of FLAG_SEND_ZLP causes problems to other firmware/hardware
versions that have no issues.
The FLAG_SEND_ZLP is not safe to use in this context.
See:
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/netdev/patch/1270599787.8900.8.camel@Linuxdev4-laptop/#118378
The original problem needs another way to solve.

The Anker PowerExpand USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet adapter uses this
chipset, but exposes CDC Ethernet configurations as well as the
vendor specific one. This driver tries to bind by PID:VID
unconditionally and ends up picking up the CDC configuration, which
is supposed to be handled by the class driver. To make things even
more confusing, it sees both of the CDC class interfaces and tries
to bind twice, resulting in two broken Ethernet devices.
Change all the ID matches to specifically match the vendor-specific
interface. By default the device comes up in CDC mode and is bound by
that driver (which works fine); users may switch it to the vendor
interface using sysfs to set bConfigurationValue, at which point the
device actually goes through a reconnect cycle and comes back as a
vendor specific only device, and then this driver binds and works too.
The affected device uses VID/PID 0b95:1790, but we might as well change
all of them for good measure, since there is no good reason for this
driver to bind to standard CDC Ethernet interfaces.

We need more space to save WoL context. So lets allocate memory
for ax88179_data instead of using struct usbnet data field which
only supports 5 words. We continue to use the struct usbnet data
field for multicast filters. However since we no longer have the
private data stored there, we can shift it to the beginning.

This patch corrects packet receiving in ax88179_rx_fixup.
- problem observed:
ifconfig shows allways a lot of 'RX Errors' while packets
are received normally.
This occurs because ax88179_rx_fixup does not recognise properly
the usb urb received.
The packets are normally processed and at the end, the code exits
with 'return 0', generating RX Errors.
(pkt_cnt==-2 and ptk_hdr over field rx_hdr trying to identify
another packet there)
This is a usb urb received by "tcpdump -i usbmon2 -X" on a
little-endian CPU:

The dump shows that pkt_cnt is the number of entrys in the
per-packet metadata. It is "2 * packet count".
Each packet have two entrys. The first have a valid
value (pkt_len and AX_RXHDR_*) and the second have a
dummy-header 0x80000000 (pkt_len=0 with AX_RXHDR_DROP_ERR).
Why exists dummy-header for each packet?!?
My guess is that this was done probably to align the
entry for each packet to 64-bits and maintain compatibility
with old firmware.
There is also a padding (0x00000000) before the rx_hdr to
align the end of rx_hdr to 64-bit.
Note that packets have a alignment of 64-bits (8-bytes).
This patch assumes that the dummy-header and the last
padding are optional. So it preserves semantics and
recognises the same valid packets as the current code.
This patch was made using only the dumpfile information and
tested with only one device:

The extra byte inserted by usbnet.c when
(length % dev->maxpacket == 0) is causing problems to device.
This patch sets FLAG_SEND_ZLP to avoid this.
Tested with: 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet
Problems observed:
======================================================================
1) Using ssh/sshfs. The remote sshd daemon can abort with the message:
"message authentication code incorrect"
This happens because the tcp message sent is corrupted during the
USB "Bulk out". The device calculate the tcp checksum and send a
valid tcp message to the remote sshd. Then the encryption detects
the error and aborts.
2) NETDEV WATCHDOG: ... (ax88179_178a): transmit queue 0 timed out
3) Stop normal work without any log message.
The "Bulk in" continue receiving packets normally.
The host sends "Bulk out" and the device responds with -ECONNRESET.
(The netusb.c code tx_complete ignore -ECONNRESET)
Under normal conditions these errors take days to happen and in
intense usage take hours.
A test with ping gives packet loss, showing that something is wrong:
ping -4 -s 462 {destination} # 462 = 512 - 42 - 8
Not all packets fail.
My guess is that the device tries to find another packet starting
at the extra byte and will fail or not depending on the next
bytes (old buffer content).

ax88179_rx_fixup() contains several out-of-bounds accesses that can be
triggered by a malicious (or defective) USB device, in particular:
- The metadata array (hdr_off..hdr_off+2*pkt_cnt) can be out of bounds,
causing OOB reads and (on big-endian systems) OOB endianness flips.
- A packet can overlap the metadata array, causing a later OOB
endianness flip to corrupt data used by a cloned SKB that has already
been handed off into the network stack.
- A packet SKB can be constructed whose tail is far beyond its end,
causing out-of-bounds heap data to be considered part of the SKB's
data.
I have tested that this can be used by a malicious USB device to send a
bogus ICMPv6 Echo Request and receive an ICMPv6 Echo Reply in response
that contains random kernel heap data.
It's probably also possible to get OOB writes from this on a
little-endian system somehow - maybe by triggering skb_cow() via IP
options processing -, but I haven't tested that.

This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and
function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr.
Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount
of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look
up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all
the writes to it got through appropriate helpers.
Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const
is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing.
It seems like it's still better to add the const in case
the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled
for the build.
No functional changes.

Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement
the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware
timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP.
Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to
implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands.
This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find
their way through the implementation.

Using a AX88179 device (0b95:1790), I see two bytes of appended data on
every RX packet. For example, this 48-byte ping, using 0xff as a
payload byte:
04:20:22.528472 IP 192.168.1.1 > 192.168.1.2: ICMP echo request, id 2447, seq 1, length 64
0x0000: 000a cd35 ea50 000a cd35 ea4f 0800 4500
0x0010: 0054 c116 4000 4001 f63e c0a8 0101 c0a8
0x0020: 0102 0800 b633 098f 0001 87ea cd5e 0000
0x0030: 0000 dcf2 0600 0000 0000 ffff ffff ffff
0x0040: ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff
0x0050: ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff ffff
0x0060: ffff 961f
Those last two bytes - 96 1f - aren't part of the original packet.
In the ax88179 RX path, the usbnet rx_fixup function trims a 2-byte
'alignment pseudo header' from the start of the packet, and sets the
length from a per-packet field populated by hardware. It looks like that
length field *includes* the 2-byte header; the current driver assumes
that it's excluded.
This change trims the 2-byte alignment header after we've set the packet
length, so the resulting packet length is correct. While we're moving
the comment around, this also fixes the spelling of 'pseudo'.

The vendor driver does upon failing to read a valid MAC address from
EEPROM write the netdev's address back to EEPROM and invoking a EEPROM
reload operation. Based on this we can implement the ethtool_ops
set_eeprom and provide the means to populate the EEPROM from within
Linux.
It's worth noting that ax88179_get_eeprom() will return some default
data unless the content of the EEPROM is deemed "complete", so until the
EEPROM is fully populated (e.g. by running ethtool -e | ethtool -E)
data written with ax88179_set_eeprom() will appear not to stick.
The implementation is based on asix_set_eeprom(), from asix_common.c

When the MAC address is supplied via device tree or a random
MAC is generated it has to be written to the asix chip in
order to receive any data.
Previously in 9fb137aef34e ("net: usb: ax88179_178a: allow
optionally getting mac address from device tree") this line was
omitted because it seemed to work perfectly fine without it.
But it was simply not detected because the chip keeps the mac
stored even beyond a reset and it was tested on a hardware
with an integrated UPS where the asix chip was permanently
powered on even throughout power cycles.

Adopt and integrate the feature to pass the MAC address via device tree
from asix_device.c (03fc5d4) also to other ax88179 based asix chips.

The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This
patch replaces cases of:
kmalloc(a * b, gfp)
with:
kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp)
as well as handling cases of:
kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp)
with:
kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)
as it's slightly less ugly than:
kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)
This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:
kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)
though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.
Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own
implementation of kmalloc().
The Coccinelle script used for this was:
// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

Add support for the net stats64 counters to the usbnet core. With that
in place put the hooks into every usbnet driver to use it.
This is a strait forward addition of 64bit counters for RX and TX packet
and byte counts. It is done in the same style as for the other net drivers
that support stats64. Note that the other stats fields remain as 32bit
sized values (error counts, etc).
The motivation to add this is that it is not particularly difficult to
get the RX and TX byte counts to wrap on 32bit platforms.

The following patch fixes a bug which causes the ax88179_178a driver to be
incapable of being added to a bond.
When I brought up the issue with the bonding maintainers, they indicated
that the real problem was with the NIC driver which must return zero for
success (of setting the MAC address). I see that several other NIC drivers
follow that pattern by either simply always returing zero, or by passing
through a negative (error) result while rewriting any positive return code
to zero. With that same philisophy applied to the ax88179_178a driver, it
allows it to work correctly with the bonding driver.
I believe this is suitable for queuing in -stable, as it's a small, simple,
and obvious fix that corrects a defect with no other known workaround.
This patch is against vanilla 3.17(.0).

This reverts commit 3804fad45411b48233b48003e33a78f290d227c8.
This commit, together with commit 247bf557273dd775505fb9240d2d152f4f20d304
"xhci 1.0: Limit arbitrarily-aligned scatter gather." were
origially added to get xHCI 1.0 hosts and usb ethernet ax88179_178a devices
working together with scatter gather. xHCI 1.0 hosts pose some requirement on how transfer
buffers are aligned, setting this requirement for 1.0 hosts caused USB 3.0 mass
storage devices to fail more frequently.
USB 3.0 mass storage devices used to work before 3.14-rc1. Theoretically,
the TD fragment rules could have caused an occasional disk glitch.
Now the devices *will* fail, instead of theoretically failing.
>From a user perspective, this looks like a regression; the USB device obviously
fails on 3.14-rc1, and may sometimes silently fail on prior kernels.
The proper soluition is to implement the TD fragment rules for xHCI 1.0 hosts,
but for now, revert this patch until scatter gather can be properly supported.
