Nothing major here at all, just a small set of changes for some driver core apis, and minor fixups. Included in here are: - sysfs_bin_attr_simple_read() helper added and used - device_show_string() helper added and used All usages of these were acked by the various maintainers. | * perf: Use device_show_string() helper for sysfs attributesLukas Wunner2024-05-041-10/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Deduplicate sysfs ->show() callbacks which expose a string at a static memory location. Use the newly introduced device_show_string() helper in the driver core instead by declaring those sysfs attributes with DEVICE_STRING_ATTR_RO(). No functional change intended. * ACPI: Drop parent field from struct acpi_deviceRafael J. Wysocki2022-08-241-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The parent field in struct acpi_device is, in fact, redundant, because the dev.parent field in it effectively points to the same object and it is used by the driver core. Accordingly, the parent field can be dropped from struct acpi_device and for this purpose define acpi_dev_parent() to retrieve a parent struct acpi_device pointer from the dev.parent field in struct acpi_device. Next, update all of the users of the parent field in struct acpi_device to use acpi_dev_parent() instead of it and drop it. While at it, drop the ACPI_IS_ROOT_DEVICE() macro that is only used in one place in a confusing way. No intentional functional impact. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. * drivers/perf: Prevent forced unbinding of PMU driversQi Liu2020-07-171-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Forcefully unbinding PMU drivers during perf sampling will lead to a kernel panic, because the perf upper-layer framework call a NULL pointer in this situation. To solve this issue, "suppress_bind_attrs" should be set to true, so that bind/unbind can be disabled via sysfs and prevent unbinding PMU drivers during perf sampling. * perf/drivers: Strengthen exclusion checks with PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDEAndrew Murray2019-01-211-7/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For drivers that do not support context exclusion let's advertise the PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE capability. This ensures that perf will prevent us from handling events where any exclusion flags are set. Let's also remove the now unnecessary check for exclusion flags. This change means that qcom_{l2|l3}_pmu will now also indicate that they do not support exclude_{host|guest} and that xgene_pmu does not also support exclude_idle and exclude_hv. Note that for qcom_l2_pmu we now implictly return -EINVAL instead of -EOPNOTSUPP. This change will result in the perf userspace utility retrying the perf_event_open system call with fallback event attributes that do not fail. * perf: Fix sibling iterationPeter Zijlstra2018-03-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Mark noticed that the change to sibling_list changed some iteration semantics; because previously we used group_list as list entry, sibling events would always have an empty sibling_list. But because we now use sibling_list for both list head and list entry, siblings will report as having siblings. Fix this with a custom for_each_sibling_event() iterator. * perf: qcom: Add L3 cache PMU driverAgustin Vega-Frias2017-04-031-0/+849
This adds a new dynamic PMU to the Perf Events framework to program and control the L3 cache PMUs in some Qualcomm Technologies SOCs. The driver supports a distributed cache architecture where the overall cache for a socket is comprised of multiple slices each with its own PMU. Access to each individual PMU is provided even though all CPUs share all the slices. User space needs to aggregate to individual counts to provide a global picture. The driver exports formatting and event information to sysfs so it can be used by the perf user space tools with the syntaxes: perf stat -a -e l3cache_0_0/read-miss/ perf stat -a -e l3cache_0_0/event=0x21/ Acked-by: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Agustin Vega-Frias <agustinv@codeaurora.org> [will: fixed sparse issues] Signed-off-by: Will Deacon <will.deacon@arm.com>
