* oradax: make 'cl' a static const structureIvan Orlov2023-06-231-11/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that the driver core allows for struct class to be in read-only memory, move the 'cl' structure to be declared at build time placing it into read-only memory, instead of having to be dynamically allocated at load time. Once again, a busy development cycle, with lots of changes happening in the driver core in the quest to be able to move "struct bus" and "struct class" into read-only memory, a task now complete with these changes. This will make the future rust interactions with the driver core more "provably correct" as well as providing more obvious lifetime rules for all busses and classes in the kernel. The changes required for this did touch many individual classes and busses as many callbacks were changed to take const * parameters instead. All of these changes have been submitted to the various subsystem maintainers, giving them plenty of time to review, and most of them actually did so. Other than those changes, included in here are a small set of other things: - kobject logging improvements - cacheinfo improvements and updates - obligatory fw_devlink updates and fixes - documentation updates - device property cleanups and const * changes - firwmare loader dependency fixes. * sparc: sbus: treat CPU index as integerJason A. Donenfeld2022-11-191-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | Using a `char` to fit a CPU index is too small, and assigning -1 to it isn't correct either, since `char` is sometimes signed and sometimes not. In this case, it's been fine since this driver only works on sparc, but that will soon be changing when chars become unsigned everywhere. So instead, use a normal `int` type, which matches the `int cpu` function argument that this is being compared against. Cc: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net> Signed-off-by: Jason A. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>
* mm: don't include asm/pgtable.h if linux/mm.h is already includedMike Rapoport2020-06-092-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2. The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported architectures. Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils down to, e.g. static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address) { return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1); } static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address) { return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address); } These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined. For architectures that really need a custom version there is always possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic. These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table accessors to the new header. This patch (of 12): The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h> in the files that include <linux/mm.h>. The include statements in such cases are remove with a simple loop: for f in $(git grep -l "include <linux/mm.h>") ; do sed -i -e '/include <asm\/pgtable.h>/ d' $f done Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@alien8.de> Cc: Brian Cain <bcain@codeaurora.org> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net> Cc: "David S. * oradax: convert get_user_pages() --> pin_user_pages()John Hubbard2020-05-171-5/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This code was using get_user_pages_fast(), in a "Case 2" scenario (DMA/RDMA), using the categorization from [1]. That means that it's time to convert the get_user_pages_fast() + put_page() calls to pin_user_pages_fast() + unpin_user_pages() calls. There is some helpful background in [2]: basically, this is a small part of fixing a long-standing disconnect between pinning pages, and file systems' use of those pages. * compat_ioctl: move more drivers to compat_ptr_ioctlArnd Bergmann2019-10-232-4/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The .ioctl and .compat_ioctl file operations have the same prototype so they can both point to the same function, which works great almost all the time when all the commands are compatible. One exception is the s390 architecture, where a compat pointer is only 31 bit wide, and converting it into a 64-bit pointer requires calling compat_ptr(). Most drivers here will never run in s390, but since we now have a generic helper for it, it's easy enough to use it consistently. I double-checked all these drivers to ensure that all ioctl arguments are used as pointers or are ignored, but are not interpreted as integer values. * mm/gup: change GUP fast to use flags rather than a write 'bool'Ira Weiny2019-05-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | To facilitate additional options to get_user_pages_fast() change the singular write parameter to be gup_flags. This patch does not change any functionality. New functionality will follow in subsequent patches. Some of the get_user_pages_fast() call sites were unchanged because they already passed FOLL_WRITE or 0 for the write parameter. NOTE: It was suggested to change the ordering of the get_user_pages_fast() arguments to ensure that callers were converted. This breaks the current GUP call site convention of having the returned pages be the final parameter. So the suggestion was rejected. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rename the sparc documentation files to ReST, add an index for them and adjust in order to produce a nice html output via the Sphinx build system. There is an except from a document under oradax dir. It doesn't seem to make much sense to convert this one to ReST, so let's add it as an included document. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Each Oracle DAX CCB has a corresponding completion area, and the required number of areas must fit within a previously allocated array of completion areas beginning at the requested index. * | sparc64: Oracle DAX driverRob Gardner2018-01-223-0/+1014
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | DAX is a coprocessor which resides on the SPARC M7 (DAX1) and M8 (DAX2) processor chips, and has direct access to the CPU's L3 caches as well as physical memory. It can perform several operations on data streams with various input and output formats. This driver provides a transport mechanism and has limited knowledge of the various opcodes and data formats. A user space library provides high level services and translates these into low level commands which are then passed into the driver and subsequently the hypervisor and the coprocessor. The library is the recommended way for applications to use the coprocessor, and the driver interface is not intended for general use. * | License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman2017-11-024-0/+4
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. * block: introduce new block status code typeChristoph Hellwig2017-06-091-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we use nornal Linux errno values in the block layer, and while we accept any error a few have overloaded magic meanings. This patch instead introduces a new blk_status_t value that holds block layer specific status codes and explicitly explains their meaning. Helpers to convert from and to the previous special meanings are provided for now, but I suspect we want to get rid of them in the long run - those drivers that have a errno input (e.g. networking) usually get errnos that don't know about the special block layer overloads, and similarly returning them to userspace will usually return somethings that strictly speaking isn't correct for file system operations, but that's left as an exercise for later. For now the set of errors is a very limited set that closely corresponds to the previous overloaded errno values, but there is some low hanging fruite to improve it. blk_status_t (ab)uses the sparse __bitwise annotations to allow for sparse typechecking, so that we can easily catch places passing the wrong values. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | orderly_poweroff() unconditionally returns 0, so remove the dead code that checks the return value. A future patch will change the return type to void.
