* TTY: add tty_port_tty_wakeup helperJiri Slaby2013-03-191-6/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | It allows for cleaning up on a considerable amount of places. They did port_get, wakeup, kref_put. Now the only thing needed is to call tty_port_tty_wakeup which does exactly that. One exception is ifx6x60 where tty_wakeup was open-coded. We now call tty_wakeup properly there. * TTY: switch tty_flip_buffer_pushJiri Slaby2013-01-161-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed: tty_flip_buffer_push. IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get at all yet. Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it anyway. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. tty_insert_flip_char is the next one to proceed. This one is used all over the code, so the patch is huge. * TTY: call tty_port_destroy in the rest of driversJiri Slaby2012-11-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this assumption. To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places. This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed. This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places. A lot of activities this round including considerable API and behavior cleanups. * delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as expected. * Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added. These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface and behave like timer which is executed with process context. * A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario the overhead isn't too high. All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and flush_[delayed_]_work_sync(). The former is now as strong as the latter and the specified work item is guaranteed to have finished execution of any previous queueing on return. * In addition to the various bug fixes, Lai redid and simplified CPU hotplug handling significantly. * Joonsoo introduced system_highpri_wq and used it during CPU hotplug. There are two merge commits - one to pull in IRQ safe timer from tip/timers/core and the other to pull in CPU hotplug fixes from wq/for-3.6-fixes as Lai's hotplug restructuring depended on them." Fixed a number of trivial conflicts, but the more interesting conflicts were silent ones where the deprecated interfaces had been used by new code in the merge window, and thus didn't cause any real data conflicts. Tejun pointed out a few of them, I fixed a couple more. * 'for-3.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/wq: (46 commits) workqueue: remove spurious WARN_ON_ONCE(in_irq()) from try_to_grab_pending() workqueue: use cwq_set_max_active() helper for workqueue_set_max_active() workqueue: introduce cwq_set_max_active() helper for thaw_workqueues() workqueue: remove @delayed from cwq_dec_nr_in_flight() workqueue: fix possible stall on try_to_grab_pending() of a delayed work item workqueue: use hotcpu_notifier() for workqueue_cpu_down_callback() workqueue: use __cpuinit instead of __devinit for cpu callbacks workqueue: rename manager_mutex to assoc_mutex workqueue: WORKER_REBIND is no longer necessary for idle rebinding workqueue: WORKER_REBIND is no longer necessary for busy rebinding workqueue: reimplement idle worker rebinding workqueue: deprecate __cancel_delayed_work() workqueue: reimplement cancel_delayed_work() using try_to_grab_pending() workqueue: use mod_delayed_work() instead of __cancel + queue workqueue: use irqsafe timer for delayed_work workqueue: clean up delayed_work initializers and add missing one workqueue: make deferrable delayed_work initializer names consistent workqueue: cosmetic whitespace updates for macro definitions workqueue: deprecate system_nrt[_freezable]_wq workqueue: deprecate flush[_delayed]_work_sync() ...
| * workqueue: deprecate flush[_delayed]_work_sync()Tejun Heo2012-08-201-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | flush[_delayed]_work_sync() are now spurious. Mark them deprecated and convert all users to flush[_delayed]_work(). If you're cc'd and wondering what's going on: Now all workqueues are non-reentrant and the regular flushes guarantee that the work item is not pending or running on any CPU on return, so there's no reason to use the sync flushes at all and they're going away. This patch doesn't make any functional difference. * | TTY: use tty_port_link_deviceJiri Slaby2012-08-141-0/+2
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | So now for those drivers that can use neither tty_port_install nor tty_port_register_driver but still have tty_port available before tty_register_driver we use newly added tty_port_link_device. The rest of the drivers that still do not provide tty_struct <-> tty_port link will have to be converted to implement tty->ops->install. * TTY: hvsi, use tty from tty_portJiri Slaby2012-04-091-14/+21

* TTY: hvsi, sanitize uses of ttyJiri Slaby2012-04-091-58/+30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | - use tty, not hp->tty wherever possible - pass tty down to some functions and go to step one - do not defer tty_hangup calls -- it is as simple as schedule_work, so might be called with hp->lock held - do not defer tty buffer flips -- since the driver does not use low_latency (it cannot actually), the flip is a simple tail move plus schedule_work. It will make our life easier in the next patch. Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Cc: linuxppc-dev@lists.ozlabs.org Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

* TTY: hvsi, CLOCAL is not in tty->flagsJiri Slaby2012-04-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | It is in termios cflags. So change the test in hvsi_recv_control to do the right thing. Previously it was actually testing TTY_LDISC_OPEN bit, i.e. whether an ldisc is active. And yes, it is most of the time. Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Cc: linuxppc-dev@lists.ozlabs.org Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* TTY: remove unneeded tty->index checksJiri Slaby2012-03-081-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Checking if tty->index is in bounds is not needed. The tty has the index set in the initial open. This is done in get_tty_driver. And it can be only in interval <0,driver->num). So remove the tests which check exactly this interval. Some are left untouched as they check against the current backing device count. (Leaving apart that the check is racy in most of the cases.) Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* TTY: remove re-assignments to tty_driver membersJiri Slaby2012-03-081-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | All num, magic and owner are set by alloc_tty_driver. No need to re-set them on each allocation site. pti driver sets something different to what it passes to alloc_tty_driver. It is not a bug, since we don't use the lines parameter in any way. Anyway this is fixed, and now we do the right thing. * serial: Kill off NO_IRQAlan Cox2012-01-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | We transform the offenders into a test of irq <= 0 which will be ok while the ARM people get their platform sorted. Once that is done (or in a while if they don't do it anyway) then we will change them all to !irq checks. For arch specific drivers that are already using NO_IRQ = 0 we just test against zero so we don't need to re-review them later. * TTY: irq: Remove IRQF_DISABLEDYong Zhang2011-09-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit [e58aa3d2: genirq: Run irq handlers with interrupts disabled], We run all interrupt handlers with interrupts disabled and we even check and yell when an interrupt handler returns with interrupts enabled (see commit [b738a50a: genirq: Warn when handler enables interrupts]). * tiocmget: kill off the passing of the struct fileAlan Cox2011-02-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | We don't actually need this and it causes problems for internal use of this functionality. Currently there is a single use of the FILE * pointer. That is the serial core which uses it to check tty_hung_up_p. However if that is true then IO_ERROR is also already set so the check may be removed. * tty: move hvc drivers to drivers/tty/hvc/Greg Kroah-Hartman2011-01-131-0/+1314
As requested by Arnd Bergmann, the hvc drivers are now moved to the drivers/tty/hvc/ directory. The virtio_console.c driver was also moved, as it required the hvc_console.h file to be able to be built, and it really is a hvc driver.
