We already perform the ida_simple_remove() in rtc_device_release(), which is an appropriate place. Commit 2830a6d20 ("rtc: recycle id when unloading a rtc driver") caused the kernel to emit ida_remove called for id=0 which is not allocated. warnings when rtc_device_release() tries to release an alread-released ID. Let's restore things to their previous state and then work out why Vincent's kernel wasn't calling rtc_device_release() - presumably a bug in a specific sub-driver. One customer noticed system UUID doesn't match between dmidecode & uek2. - HP ProLiant BL460c G6 : # cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/product_uuid 00000000-0000-4C48-3031-4D5030333531 # dmidecode | grep -i uuid UUID: 00000000-0000-484C-3031-4D5030333531 From SMBIOS 2.6 on, spec use little-endian encoding for UUID other than network byte order. So we need to get dmi version to distinguish. If version is 0.0, the real version is taken from the SMBIOS version. This is part of original kernel comment in code. Typically, the mmu is bundled with the processing unit in a single IP block, which makes them to share the same clock to be functional. Currently, iommu code assumes that its user will be indirectly clocking it, but being a separate mmu driver, it should handle its own clocks, so as long as the mmu is requested it will be powered ON and once detached it will be powered OFF. The remaining clock handling out of iommu_enable and iommu_disable corresponds to paths that can be accessed through debugfs, some of them doesn't work if the module is not enabled first, but in future if the mmu is idled withouth freeing, these are needed to debug. This works now, because its users need the same clock and they indirectly power the mmu, in this interrupt context the handling of clocks inside the ISR doesn't seem to be needed nor helping. Next patch should also correct the dependency on clients to handle iommu clocks. So if a page table page was used for one or more small mappings, it's likely to end up still present in the page tables... but with no valid PTEs. This was fine when we'd only be repopulating it with 4KiB PTEs anyway but the same virtual address range can end up being reused for a *large-page* mapping. And in that case were were trying to insert the large page into the second-level page table, and getting a complaint from the sanity check in __domain_mapping() because there was already a corresponding entry. This was *relatively* harmless; it led to a memory leak of the old page table page, but no other ill-effects. Fix it by calling dma_pte_clear_range (hopefully redundant) and dma_pte_free_pagetable() before setting up the new large page. The implementation also penalizes fast path with extra memory accesses for the benefit of ring full condition handling which is slow path. It's easy to query ring capacity so let's do just that. This is problematic because such allocations can fall outside of the lowmem mapping, causing virt_to_phys to report bogus physical addresses which are subsequently passed to userspace via the buffers for the virtual device. This patch masks out __GFP_HIGH and __GFP_HIGHMEM from the requested flags when allocating descriptors for a virtqueue. If an atomic allocation is requested and later fails, we will return -ENOSPC which will be handled by the driver.
