A cpuidle driver may be registered at boot-time based on CPU type. This patch allows an off-lined CPU to enter HLT-based idle in this condition. To help developers root cause it quickly, the patch adds a new sysfs entry, so developers could disable specific C state manually. In addition, C state might have much impact on performance tuning, as it takes much time to enter/exit C states, which might delay interrupt processing. With the new debug option, developers could check if a deep C state could impact performance and how much impact it could cause. Also add this option in Documentation/cpuidle/sysfs.txt. The original author of the patch is Panagiotis Malakoudis, who also tested this new version on Ubuntu 11.10 with the latest media_build tree installed. The original patch has been used on MIPS set-top-boxes for over one year, but it was never posted on the linux-media list. I ported the code to the current media_build tree (converting it to use the dtv_frontend_properties struct) and added basic support for ISDB-T (untested).
