* hfsplus: Don't clear SGID when inheriting ACLsJan Kara2017-07-181-12/+18
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When new directory 'DIR1' is created in a directory 'DIR0' with SGID bit set, DIR1 is expected to have SGID bit set (and owning group equal to the owning group of 'DIR0'). However when 'DIR0' also has some default ACLs that 'DIR1' inherits, setting these ACLs will result in SGID bit on 'DIR1' to get cleared if user is not member of the owning group. Fix the problem by creating __hfsplus_set_posix_acl() function that does not call posix_acl_update_mode() and use it when inheriting ACLs. That prevents SGID bit clearing and the mode has been properly set by posix_acl_create() anyway. * fs: semove set but not checked AOP_FLAG_UNINTERRUPTIBLE flagTetsuo Handa2017-05-091-3/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit afddba49d18f ("fs: introduce write_begin, write_end, and perform_write aops") introduced AOP_FLAG_UNINTERRUPTIBLE flag which was checked in pagecache_write_begin(), but that check was removed by 4e02ed4b4a2f ("fs: remove prepare_write/commit_write"). Between these two commits, commit d9414774dc0c ("cifs: Convert cifs to new aops.") added a check in cifs_write_begin(), but that check was soon removed by commit a98ee8c1c707 ("[CIFS] fix regression in cifs_write_begin/cifs_write_end"). Therefore, AOP_FLAG_UNINTERRUPTIBLE flag is checked nowhere. Let's remove this flag. This patch has no functionality changes. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | When file permissions are modified via chmod(2) and the user is not in the owning group or capable of CAP_FSETID, the setgid bit is cleared in inode_change_ok(). Setting a POSIX ACL via setxattr(2) sets the file permissions as well as the new ACL, but doesn't clear the setgid bit in a similar way; this allows to bypass the check in chmod(2). Fix that. |\ \ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This changes the vfs dentry hashing to mix in the parent pointer at the _beginning_ of the hash, rather than at the end. That actually improves both the hash and the code generation, because we can move more of the computation to the "static" part of the dcache setup, and do less at lookup runtime. It turns out that a lot of other hash users also really wanted to mix in a base pointer as a 'salt' for the hash, and so the slightly extended interface ends up working well for other cases too. Users that want a string hash that is purely about the string pass in a 'salt' pointer of NULL. * merge branch 'salted-string-hash': fs/dcache.c: Save one 32-bit multiply in dcache lookup vfs: make the string hashes salt the hash

| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we did it late at lookup time. It turns out that we can simplify that lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early instead of late. A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism. Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the NULL pointer as a no-salt. The inode operation is responsible for updating the cached acl with set_cached_acl(). This is done without locking at the VFS level, so another task can call set_cached_acl() or forget_cached_acl() before the get_acl inode operation gets to calling set_cached_acl(), and then get_acl's call to set_cached_acl() results in caching an outdate ACL. Prevent this from happening by setting the cached ACL pointer to a task-specific sentinel value before calling the get_acl inode operation. Move the responsibility for updating the cached ACL from the get_acl inode operations to get_acl(). There, only set the cached ACL if the sentinel value hasn't changed. The sentinel values are chosen to have odd values. Likewise, the value of ACL_NOT_CACHED is odd. In contrast, ACL object pointers always have an even value (ACLs are aligned in memory). This allows to distinguish uncached ACLs values from ACL objects. In addition, switch from guarding inode->i_acl and inode->i_default_acl upates by the inode->i_lock spinlock to using xchg() and cmpxchg(). Filesystems that do not want ACLs returned from their get_acl inode operations to be cached must call forget_cached_acl() to prevent the VFS from doing so. This promise never materialized. And unlikely will. We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case, especially on the border between fs and mm. Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much breakage to be doable. Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are not. The changes are pretty straight-forward: - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN}; - page_cache_get() -> get_page(); - page_cache_release() -> put_page(); This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files. I've called spatch for them manually. The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later. There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also will be addressed with the separate patch. virtual patch @@ expression E; @@ - E << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ expression E; @@ - E >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SIZE + PAGE_SIZE @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_MASK + PAGE_MASK @@ expression E; @@ - PAGE_CACHE_ALIGN(E) + PAGE_ALIGN(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_get(E) + get_page(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_release(E) + put_page(E) Signed-off-by: Kirill A. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Mark those kmem allocations that are known to be easily triggered from userspace as __GFP_ACCOUNT/SLAB_ACCOUNT, which makes them accounted to memcg. For the list, see below: - threadinfo - task_struct - task_delay_info - pid - cred - mm_struct - vm_area_struct and vm_region (nommu) - anon_vma and anon_vma_chain - signal_struct - sighand_struct - fs_struct - files_struct - fdtable and fdtable->full_fds_bits - dentry and external_name - inode for all filesystems. This is the most tedious part, because most filesystems overwrite the alloc_inode method. The list is far from complete, so feel free to add more objects. Nevertheless, it should be close to "account everything" approach and keep most workloads within bounds. Malevolent users will be able to breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in fact). * hfs,hfsplus: cache pages correctly between bnode_create and bnode_freeHin-Tak Leung2015-09-101-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pages looked up by __hfs_bnode_create() (called by hfs_bnode_create() and hfs_bnode_find() for finding or creating pages corresponding to an inode) are immediately kmap()'ed and used (both read and write) and kunmap()'ed, and should not be page_cache_release()'ed until hfs_bnode_free(). This patch fixes a problem I first saw in July 2012: merely running "du" on a large hfsplus-mounted directory a few times on a reasonably loaded system would get the hfsplus driver all confused and complaining about B-tree inconsistencies, and generates a "BUG: Bad page state". Most recently, I can generate this problem on up-to-date Fedora 22 with shipped kernel 4.0.5, by running "du /" (="/" + "/home" + "/mnt" + other smaller mounts) and "du /mnt" simultaneously on two windows, where /mnt is a lightly-used QEMU VM image of the full Mac OS X 10.9: $ df -i / /home /mnt Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/mapper/fedora-root 3276800 551665 2725135 17% / /dev/mapper/fedora-home 52879360 716221 52163139 2% /home /dev/nbd0p2 4294967295 1387818 4293579477 1% /mnt After applying the patch, I was able to run "du /" (60+ times) and "du /mnt" (150+ times) continuously and simultaneously for 6+ hours. There are many reports of the hfsplus driver getting confused under load and generating "BUG: Bad page state" or other similar issues over the years. [1] The unpatched code [2] has always been wrong since it entered the kernel tree. The only reason why it gets away with it is that the kmap/memcpy/kunmap follow very quickly after the page_cache_release() so the kernel has not had a chance to reuse the memory for something else, most of the time. The current RW driver appears to have followed the design and development of the earlier read-only hfsplus driver [3], where-by version 0.1 (Dec 2001) had a B-tree node-centric approach to read_cache_page()/page_cache_release() per bnode_get()/bnode_put(), migrating towards version 0.2 (June 2002) of caching and releasing pages per inode extents. When the current RW code first entered the kernel [2] in 2005, there was an REF_PAGES conditional (and "//" commented out code) to switch between B-node centric paging to inode-centric paging. There was a mistake with the direction of one of the REF_PAGES conditionals in __hfs_bnode_create(). In a subsequent "remove debug code" commit [4], the read_cache_page()/page_cache_release() per bnode_get()/bnode_put() were removed, but a page_cache_release() was mistakenly left in (propagating the "REF_PAGES <-> !REF_PAGE" mistake), and the commented-out page_cache_release() in bnode_release() (which should be spanned by !REF_PAGES) was never enabled. * fs: create and use seq_show_option for escapingKees Cook2015-09-051-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many file systems that implement the show_options hook fail to correctly escape their output which could lead to unescaped characters (e.g. new lines) leaking into /proc/mounts and /proc/[pid]/mountinfo files. This could lead to confusion, spoofed entries (resulting in things like systemd issuing false d-bus "mount" notifications), and who knows what else. This looks like it would only be the root user stepping on themselves, but it's possible weird things could happen in containers or in other situations with delegated mount privileges. Here's an example using overlay with setuid fusermount trusting the contents of /proc/mounts (via the /etc/mtab symlink). Imagine the use of "sudo" is something more sneaky: $ BASE="ovl" $ MNT="$BASE/mnt" $ LOW="$BASE/lower" $ UP="$BASE/upper" $ WORK="$BASE/work/ 0 0 none /proc fuse.pwn user_id=1000" $ mkdir -p "$LOW" "$UP" "$WORK" $ sudo mount -t overlay -o "lowerdir=$LOW,upperdir=$UP,workdir=$WORK" none /mnt $ cat /proc/mounts none /root/ovl/mnt overlay rw,relatime,lowerdir=ovl/lower,upperdir=ovl/upper,workdir=ovl/work/ 0 0 none /proc fuse.pwn user_id=1000 0 0 $ fusermount -u /proc $ cat /proc/mounts cat: /proc/mounts: No such file or directory This fixes the problem by adding new seq_show_option and seq_show_option_n helpers, and updating the vulnerable show_option handlers to use them as needed. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With the planned cgroup writeback support, backing-dev related declarations will be more widely used across block and cgroup; unfortunately, including backing-dev.h from include/linux/blkdev.h makes cyclic include dependency quite likely.
