* [PATCH] Optimize D-cache alias handling on forkRalf Baechle2006-12-131-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Virtually index, physically tagged cache architectures can get away without cache flushing when forking. This patch adds a new cache flushing function flush_cache_dup_mm(struct mm_struct *) which for the moment I've implemented to do the same thing on all architectures except on MIPS where it's a no-op. * [SPARC64]: Add CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC support.David S. Miller2005-09-261-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The trick is that we do the kernel linear mapping TLB miss starting with an instruction sequence like this: ba,pt %xcc, kvmap_load xor %g2, %g4, %g5 succeeded by an instruction sequence which performs a full page table walk starting at swapper_pg_dir. We first take over the trap table from the firmware. Then, using this constant PTE generation for the linear mapping area above, we build the kernel page tables for the linear mapping. After this is setup, we patch that branch above into a "nop", which will cause TLB misses to fall through to the full page table walk. With this, the page unmapping for CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC is trivial. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SPARC64]: Move DCACHE_ALIASING_POSSIBLE define to asm/page.hDavid S. Miller2005-09-201-7/+0
| | | | | | | | This showed that arch/sparc64/kernel/ptrace.c was not getting the define properly, and thus the code protected by this ifdef was never actually compiled before. So fix that too. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [PATCH] sparc64: Reduce ptrace cache flushingDavid S. Miller2005-04-181-8/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We were flushing the D-cache excessively for ptrace() processing and this makes debugging threads so slow as to be totally unusable. All process page accesses via ptrace() go via access_process_vm(). This routine, for each process page, uses get_user_pages(). That in turn does a flush_dcache_page() on the child pages before we copy in/out the ptrace request data. Therefore, all we need to do after the data movement is: 1) Flush the D-cache pages if the kernel maps the page to a different color than userspace does. 2) If we wrote to the page, we need to flush the I-cache on older cpus. Previously we just flushed the entire cache at the end of a ptrace() request, and that was beyond stupid. Signed-off-by: David S. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
