* lib: error-inject: remove error checking for debugfs_create_dir()Wang Ming2023-08-181-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | It is expected that most callers should _ignore_ the errors return by debugfs_create_dir() in ei_debugfs_init(). * error-injection: remove EI_ETYPE_NONEMasami Hiramatsu (Google)2023-02-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Patch series "error-injection: Clarify the requirements of error injectable functions". Patches for clarifying the requirement of error injectable functions and to remove the confusing EI_ETYPE_NONE. This patch (of 2): Since the EI_ETYPE_NONE is confusing type, replace it with appropriate errno. The EI_ETYPE_NONE has been introduced for a dummy (error) value, but it can mislead people that they can use ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION(func, NONE). So remove it from the EI_ETYPE and use appropriate errno instead. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: include/linux/error-injection.h needs errno.h] Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/167081319306.387937.10079195394503045678.stgit@devnote3 Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/167081320421.387937.4259807348852421112.stgit@devnote3 Fixes: 663faf9f7bee ("error-injection: Add injectable error types") Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu (Google) <mhiramat@kernel.org> Cc: Alexei Starovoitov <alexei.starovoitov@gmail.com> Cc: Borislav Petkov (AMD) <bp@alien8.de> Cc: Chris Mason <clm@meta.com> Cc: Christoph Hellwig <hch@infradead.org> Cc: Florent Revest <revest@chromium.org> Cc: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Cc: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net> Cc: Josh Poimboeuf <jpoimboe@redhat.com> Cc: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Cc: KP Singh <kpsingh@kernel.org> Cc: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: Steven Rostedt (Google) <rostedt@goodmis.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org>
* lib/error-inject: traverse list with mutexwuchi2022-07-181-3/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Traversing list without mutex in get_injectable_error_type will race with the following code: list_del_init(&ent->list) kfree(ent) in module_unload_ei_list. So fix that. * kprobes: treewide: Replace arch_deref_entry_point() with ↵Masami Hiramatsu2021-10-011-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dereference_symbol_descriptor() ~15 years ago kprobes grew the 'arch_deref_entry_point()' __weak function: 3d7e33825d87: ("jprobes: make jprobes a little safer for users") But this is just open-coded dereference_symbol_descriptor() in essence, and its obscure nature was causing bugs. Just use the real thing and remove arch_deref_entry_point(). * fault-injection: handle EI_ETYPE_TRUEBarnabás Pőcze2020-12-161-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit af3b854492f351d1 ("mm/page_alloc.c: allow error injection") introduced EI_ETYPE_TRUE, but did not extend * lib/error-inject.c:error_type_string(), and * kernel/fail_function.c:adjust_error_retval() to accommodate for this change. Handle EI_ETYPE_TRUE in both functions appropriately by * returning "TRUE" in error_type_string(), * adjusting the return value to true (1) in adjust_error_retval(). Furthermore, simplify the logic of handling EI_ETYPE_NULL in adjust_error_retval(). * treewide: Switch printk users from %pf and %pF to %ps and %pS, respectivelySakari Ailus2019-04-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | %pF and %pf are functionally equivalent to %pS and %ps conversion specifiers. The former are deprecated, therefore switch the current users to use the preferred variant. The changes have been produced by the following command: git grep -l '%p[fF]' | grep -v '^\(tools\|Documentation\)/' | \ while read i; do perl -i -pe 's/%pf/%ps/g; s/%pF/%pS/g;' $i; done And verifying the result. * error-injection: Add injectable error typesMasami Hiramatsu2018-01-131-7/+36
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add injectable error types for each error-injectable function. One motivation of error injection test is to find software flaws, mistakes or mis-handlings of expectable errors. If we find such flaws by the test, that is a program bug, so we need to fix it. But if the tester miss input the error (e.g. just return success code without processing anything), it causes unexpected behavior even if the caller is correctly programmed to handle any errors. That is not what we want to test by error injection. To clarify what type of errors the caller must expect for each injectable function, this introduces injectable error types: - EI_ETYPE_NULL : means the function will return NULL if it fails. No ERR_PTR, just a NULL. - EI_ETYPE_ERRNO : means the function will return -ERRNO if it fails. - EI_ETYPE_ERRNO_NULL : means the function will return -ERRNO (ERR_PTR) or NULL. ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION() macro is expanded to get one of NULL, ERRNO, ERRNO_NULL to record the error type for each function. e.g. ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION(open_ctree, ERRNO) This error types are shown in debugfs as below. ==== / # cat /sys/kernel/debug/error_injection/list open_ctree [btrfs] ERRNO io_ctl_init [btrfs] ERRNO ==== Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu <mhiramat@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Josef Bacik <jbacik@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@kernel.org>
* error-injection: Separate error-injection from kprobeMasami Hiramatsu2018-01-131-0/+213
Since error-injection framework is not limited to be used by kprobes, nor bpf. Other kernel subsystems can use it freely for checking safeness of error-injection, e.g. livepatch, ftrace etc. So this separate error-injection framework from kprobes. Some differences has been made: - "kprobe" word is removed from any APIs/structures. - BPF_ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION() is renamed to ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION() since it is not limited for BPF too. - CONFIG_FUNCTION_ERROR_INJECTION is the config item of this feature. It is automatically enabled if the arch supports error injection feature for kprobe or ftrace etc. Signed-off-by: Masami Hiramatsu <mhiramat@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Josef Bacik <jbacik@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@kernel.org>
