* networking: make skb_put & friends return void pointersJohannes Berg2017-06-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *, and in many places that means casts are required, more often than not. Make these functions (skb_put, __skb_put and pskb_put) return void * and remove all the casts across the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only where the unsigned char pointer was used directly, all done with the following spatch: @@ expression SKB, LEN; typedef u8; identifier fn = { skb_put, __skb_put }; @@ - *(fn(SKB, LEN)) + *(u8 *)fn(SKB, LEN) @@ expression E, SKB, LEN; identifier fn = { skb_put, __skb_put }; type T; @@ - E = ((T *)(fn(SKB, LEN))) + E = fn(SKB, LEN) which actually doesn't cover pskb_put since there are only three users overall. A handful of stragglers were converted manually, notably a macro in drivers/isdn/i4l/isdn_bsdcomp.c and, oddly enough, one of the many instances in net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c. In the former file, I also had to fix one whitespace problem spatch introduced. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* batman-adv: Use octal permissions instead of macrosSven Eckelmann2016-10-191-3/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Linus prefers to have octal permission numbers instead of combinations of macro names ("random line noise"). Also old existing "bad symbolic permission bit macro use" should be converted to octal numbers. (http://lkml.kernel.org/r/CA+55aFw5v23T-zvDZp-MmD_EYxF8WbafwwB59934FV7g21uMGQ@mail.gmail.com) Also remove the S_IFREG bit from the octal representation because it is filtered out by debugfs_create. * batman-adv: keep track of when unicast packets are sentAntonio Quartulli2016-02-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | To enable ELP to send probing packets over wireless links only if needed, batman-adv must keep track of the last time it sent a unicast packet towards every neighbour. For this purpose a 2 main changes are introduced: 1) a new member of the elp_neigh_node structure stores the last time a unicast packet was sent towards this neighbour; 2) a wrapper function for sending unicast packets is implemented. This function will simply update the member describe din point 1) and then forward the packet to the real sending routine. Point 2) implies that any code-path leading to a unicast sending now has to use the new wrapper. * batman-adv: Fix kerneldoc over 80 column linesSven Eckelmann2015-08-251-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Kerneldoc required single line documentation in the past (before 2009). Therefore, the 80 columns limit per line check of checkpatch was disabled for kerneldoc. But kerneldoc is not excluded anymore from it and checkpatch now enabled the check again. * batman-adv: Add required includes to all filesSven Eckelmann2015-06-071-4/+29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The header files could not be build indepdent from each other. This is happened because headers didn't include the files for things they've used. This was problematic because the success of a build depended on the knowledge about the right order of local includes. Also source files were not including everything they've used explicitly. Instead they required that transitive includes are always stable. This is problematic because some transitive includes are not obvious, depend on config settings and may not be stable in the future. The order for include blocks are: * primary headers (main.h and the *.h file of a *.c file) * global linux headers * required local headers * extra forward declarations for pointers in function/struct declarations The only exceptions are linux/bitops.h and linux/if_ether.h in packet.h. This header file is shared with userspace applications like batctl and must therefore build together with userspace applications. The header linux/bitops.h is not part of the uapi headers and linux/if_ether.h conflicts with the musl implementation of netinet/if_ether.h. The maintainers rejected the use of __KERNEL__ preprocessor checks and thus these two headers are only in main.h. All files using packet.h first have to include main.h to work correctly. * batman-adv: split out router from orig_nodeSimon Wunderlich2014-01-121-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | For the network wide multi interface optimization there are different routers for each outgoing interface (outgoing from the OGM perspective, incoming for payload traffic). To reflect this, change the router and associated data to a list of routers. While at it, rename batadv_orig_node_get_router() to batadv_orig_router_get() to follow the new naming scheme. * batman-adv: fix header alignment by unrolling batadv_headerSimon Wunderlich2013-12-281-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | The size of the batadv_header of 3 is problematic on some architectures which automatically pad all structures to a 32 bit boundary. To not lose performance by packing this struct, better embed it into the various host structures. * batman-adv: generalize batman-adv icmp packet handlingSimon Wunderlich2013-10-231-48/+80
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of handling icmp packets only up to length of icmp_packet_rr, the code should handle any icmp length size. Therefore the length truncating is moved to when the packet is actually sent to userspace (this does not support lengths longer than icmp_packet_rr yet). Longer packets are forwarded without truncating. This patch also cleans up some parts where the icmp header struct could be used instead of other icmp_packet(_rr) structs to make the code more readable. * batman-adv: create common header for ICMP packetsAntonio Quartulli2013-10-121-11/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | the icmp and the icmp_rr packets share the same initial fields since they use the same code to be processed and forwarded. Extract the common fields and put them into a separate struct so that future ICMP packets can be easily added without bloating the packet definition. However, keep the seqno field outside of the newly created common header because future ICMP types may require a bigger sequence number space. This change breaks compatibility due to fields reordering in the ICMP headers. Signed-off-by: Antonio Quartulli <antonio@open-mesh.com> Signed-off-by: Marek Lindner <lindner_marek@yahoo.de>
* batman-adv: set skb priority according to contentSimon Wunderlich2013-08-281-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The skb priority field may help the wireless driver to choose the right queue (e.g. WMM queues). This should be set in batman-adv, as this information is only available here. This patch adds support for IPv4/IPv6 DS fields and VLAN PCP. Note that only VLAN PCP is used if a VLAN header is present. Also initially set TC_PRIO_CONTROL only for self-generated packets, and keep the priority set by higher layers. * batman-adv: Reserve extra bytes in skb for better alignmentSven Eckelmann2012-11-071-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | The ethernet header is 14 bytes long. Therefore, the data after it is not 4 byte aligned and may cause problems on systems without unaligned data access. * batman-adv: Explicitly mark the common header structureSven Eckelmann2012-02-161-3/+3

A new structure is introduced that contains the common header and makes it easier visible that these 3 bytes have to be the same for all on-wire packets.
