* | Bluetooth: discard bt_sock_unregister() errorsDavid Herrmann2013-03-081-3/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | After we successfully registered a socket via bt_sock_register() there is no reason to ever check the return code of bt_sock_unregister(). If bt_sock_unregister() fails, it means the socket _is_ already unregistered so we have what we want, don't we? Also, to get bt_sock_unregister() to fail, another part of the kernel has to unregister _our_ socket. This is sooo _wrong_ that it will break way earlier than when we unregister our socket. * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * net: pass kern to net_proto_family create functionEric Paris2009-11-061-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | The generic __sock_create function has a kern argument which allows the security system to make decisions based on if a socket is being created by the kernel or by userspace. This patch passes that flag to the net_proto_family specific create function, so it can do the same thing. * Bluetooth: Enable per-module dynamic debug messagesMarcel Holtmann2008-11-301-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | With the introduction of CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG it is possible to allow debugging without having to recompile the kernel. This patch turns all BT_DBG() calls into pr_debug() to support dynamic debug messages. As a side effect all CONFIG_BT_*_DEBUG statements are now removed and some broken debug entries have been fixed. * [BLUETOOTH]: Use sockfd_put()Julia Lawall2008-01-291-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The function sockfd_lookup uses fget on the value that is stored in the file field of the returned structure, so fput should ultimately be applied to this value. This can be done directly, but it seems better to use the specific macro sockfd_put, which does the same thing. The problem was fixed using the following semantic patch. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. * [NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman2007-10-111-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-141-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet2006-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] kill gratitious includes of major.h under net/*Al Viro2005-04-261-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A lot of places in there are including major.h for no reason whatsoever. Removed. And yes, it still builds. The history of that stuff is often amusing. E.g. for net/core/sock.c the story looks so, as far as I've been able to reconstruct it: we used to need major.h in net/socket.c circa 1.1.early. In 1.1.13 that need had disappeared, along with register_chrdev(SOCKET_MAJOR, "socket", &net_fops) in sock_init(). Include had not. When 1.2 -> 1.3 reorg of net/* had moved a lot of stuff from net/socket.c to net/core/sock.c, this crap had followed... * Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-171-0/+226
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
