* caif: move from strlcpy with unused retval to strscpyWolfram Sang2022-08-234-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | Follow the advice of the below link and prefer 'strscpy' in this subsystem. Conversion is 1:1 because the return value is not used. Generated by a coccinelle script. * net: remove noblock parameter from skb_recv_datagram()Oliver Hartkopp2022-04-061-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | skb_recv_datagram() has two parameters 'flags' and 'noblock' that are merged inside skb_recv_datagram() by 'flags | (noblock ? MSG_DONTWAIT : 0)' As 'flags' may contain MSG_DONTWAIT as value most callers split the 'flags' into 'flags' and 'noblock' with finally obsolete bit operations like this: skb_recv_datagram(sk, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, &rc); And this is not even done consistently with the 'flags' parameter. This patch removes the obsolete and costly splitting into two parameters and only performs bit operations when really needed on the caller side. One missing conversion thankfully reported by kernel test robot. I missed to enable kunit tests to build the mctp code. | * net: Don't include filter.h from net/sock.hJakub Kicinski2021-12-291-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | sock.h is pretty heavily used (5k objects rebuilt on x86 after it's touched). We can drop the include of filter.h from it and add a forward declaration of struct sk_filter instead. This decreases the number of rebuilt objects when bpf.h is touched from ~5k to ~1k. There's a lot of missing includes this was masking. Primarily in networking tho, this time. * | net: caif: Drop unnecessary NULL check after container_ofGuenter Roeck2021-05-141-2/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The first parameter passed to chnl_recv_cb() can never be NULL since all callers dereferenced it. Consequently, container_of() on it is also never NULL, even though the reference into the structure points to the first element of the structure. The NULL check is therefore unnecessary. On top of that, it is misleading to perform a NULL check on the result of container_of() because the position of the contained element could change, which would make the test invalid. Remove the unnecessary NULL check. This change was made automatically with the following Coccinelle script. @@ type t; identifier v; statement s; @@ <+... * net: caif: Use netif_rx_any_context().Sebastian Andrzej Siewior2021-02-151-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The usage of in_interrupt() in non-core code is phased out. Ideally the information of the calling context should be passed by the callers or the functions be split as appropriate. The attempt to consolidate the code by passing an arguemnt or by distangling it failed due lack of knowledge about this driver and because the call chains are hard to follow. As a stop gap use netif_rx_any_context() which invokes the correct code path depending on context and confines the in_interrupt() usage to core code. These were either missed because the tool saw the MODULE_LICENSE() tag, or some EXPORT_SYMBOL tags, and got confused and thought the file had a real license, or the files have been added since the last big sweep, or they were Makefile/Kconfig files, which we didn't touch last time. - Add GPL-2.0-only or GPL-2.0-or-later tags to files where our scan tools can determine the license text in the file itself. Where this happens, the license text is removed, in order to cut down on the 700+ different ways we have in the kernel today, in a quest to get rid of all of these. These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing list, and while they were created by automatic tools, they were hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on the patches are reviewers. The reason for these "large" patches is if we were to continue to progress at the current rate of change in the kernel, adding license tags to individual files in different subsystems, we would be finished in about 10 years at the earliest. There will be more series of these types of patches coming over the next few weeks as the tools and reviewers crunch through the more "odd" variants of how to say "GPLv2" that developers have come up with over the years, combined with other fun oddities (GPL + a BSD disclaimer?) that are being unearthed, with the goal for the whole kernel to be cleaned up. These diffstats are not small, 3840 files are touched, over 10k lines removed in just 24 patches" * tag 'spdx-5.2-rc2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core: (24 commits) treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 25 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 24 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 23 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 22 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 21 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 20 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 19 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 18 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 17 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 15 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 14 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 13 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 12 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 11 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 10 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 9 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 7 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 5 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 4 treewide: Replace GPLv2 boilerplate/reference with SPDX - rule 3 ...

| | | | | | | | | | | | Such helper does not cope correctly with NOLOCK qdiscs. In the following patches we will move back qlen to per CPU values for such qdiscs, so qdisc_qlen_sum() is not an option, too. * Revert "net: simplify sock_poll_wait"Karsten Graul2018-10-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit dd979b4df817e9976f18fb6f9d134d6bc4a3c317. This broke tcp_poll for SMC fallback: An AF_SMC socket establishes an internal TCP socket for the initial handshake with the remote peer. Whenever the SMC connection can not be established this TCP socket is used as a fallback. All socket operations on the SMC socket are then forwarded to the TCP socket. In case of poll, the file->private_data pointer references the SMC socket because the TCP socket has no file assigned. This causes tcp_poll to wait on the wrong socket. * Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLLLinus Torvalds2018-06-281-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because "->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect calls. Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the "->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections. But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental redesign. * vfs: do bulk POLL* -> EPOLL* replacementLinus Torvalds2018-02-111-6/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL* variables as described by Al, done by this script: for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'` for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done done with de-mangling cleanups yet to come. NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost". For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al. The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we should be all done. Scripted-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

This is good, but still leaves a lot of kernel memory available to be copied to/from userspace in the face of bugs. To further restrict what memory is available for copying, this creates a way to whitelist specific areas of a given slab cache object for copying to/from userspace, allowing much finer granularity of access control. Slab caches that are never exposed to userspace can declare no whitelist for their objects, thereby keeping them unavailable to userspace via dynamic copy operations. (Note, an implicit form of whitelisting is the use of constant sizes in usercopy operations and get_user()/put_user(); these bypass all hardened usercopy checks since these sizes cannot change at runtime.) This new check is WARN-by-default, so any mistakes can be found over the next several releases without breaking anyone's system. The series has roughly the following sections: - remove %p and improve reporting with offset - prepare infrastructure and whitelist kmalloc - update VFS subsystem with whitelists - update SCSI subsystem with whitelists - update network subsystem with whitelists - update process memory with whitelists - update per-architecture thread_struct with whitelists - update KVM with whitelists and fix ioctl bug - mark all other allocations as not whitelisted - update lkdtm for more sensible test overage" * tag 'usercopy-v4.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux: (38 commits) lkdtm: Update usercopy tests for whitelisting usercopy: Restrict non-usercopy caches to size 0 kvm: x86: fix KVM_XEN_HVM_CONFIG ioctl kvm: whitelist struct kvm_vcpu_arch arm: Implement thread_struct whitelist for hardened usercopy arm64: Implement thread_struct whitelist for hardened usercopy x86: Implement thread_struct whitelist for hardened usercopy fork: Provide usercopy whitelisting for task_struct fork: Define usercopy region in thread_stack slab caches fork: Define usercopy region in mm_struct slab caches net: Restrict unwhitelisted proto caches to size 0 sctp: Copy struct sctp_sock.autoclose to userspace using put_user() sctp: Define usercopy region in SCTP proto slab cache caif: Define usercopy region in caif proto slab cache ip: Define usercopy region in IP proto slab cache net: Define usercopy region in struct proto slab cache scsi: Define usercopy region in scsi_sense_cache slab cache cifs: Define usercopy region in cifs_request slab cache vxfs: Define usercopy region in vxfs_inode slab cache ufs: Define usercopy region in ufs_inode_cache slab cache ...
| * caif: Define usercopy region in caif proto slab cacheDavid Windsor2018-01-151-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The CAIF channel connection request parameters need to be copied to/from userspace. In support of usercopy hardening, this patch defines a region in the struct proto slab cache in which userspace copy operations are allowed. example usage trace: net/caif/caif_socket.c: setsockopt(...): ... copy_from_user(&cf_sk->conn_req.param.data, ..., ol) This region is known as the slab cache's usercopy region. Slab caches can now check that each dynamically sized copy operation involving cache-managed memory falls entirely within the slab's usercopy region. This patch is modified from Brad Spengler/PaX Team's PAX_USERCOPY whitelisting code in the last public patch of grsecurity/PaX based on my understanding of the code. Changes or omissions from the original code are mine and don't reflect the original grsecurity/PaX code.
