| * Fix race for duplicate reqsk on identical SYNluoxuanqiang2024-06-252-4/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When bonding is configured in BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode, if two identical SYN packets are received at the same time and processed on different CPUs, it can potentially create the same sk (sock) but two different reqsk (request_sock) in tcp_conn_request(). These two different reqsk will respond with two SYNACK packets, and since the generation of the seq (ISN) incorporates a timestamp, the final two SYNACK packets will have different seq values. The consequence is that when the Client receives and replies with an ACK to the earlier SYNACK packet, we will reset(RST) it. ======================================================================== This behavior is consistently reproducible in my local setup, which comprises: | NETA1 ------ NETB1 | PC_A --- bond --- | | --- bond --- PC_B | NETA2 ------ NETB2 | - PC_A is the Server and has two network cards, NETA1 and NETA2. I have bonded these two cards using BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode and configured them to be handled by different CPU. - PC_B is the Client, also equipped with two network cards, NETB1 and NETB2, which are also bonded and configured in BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode. If the client attempts a TCP connection to the server, it might encounter a failure. Capturing packets from the server side reveals: 10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [S], seq 320236027, 10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [S], seq 320236027, localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [S.], seq 2967855116, localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [S.], seq 2967855123, <== 10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [.], ack 4294967290, 10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [.], ack 4294967290, localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [R], seq 2967855117, <== localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [R], seq 2967855117, Two SYNACKs with different seq numbers are sent by localhost, resulting in an anomaly. ======================================================================== The attempted solution is as follows: Add a return value to inet_csk_reqsk_queue_hash_add() to confirm if the ehash insertion is successful (Up to now, the reason for unsuccessful insertion is that a reqsk for the same connection has already been inserted). If the insertion fails, release the reqsk. Due to the refcnt, Kuniyuki suggests also adding a return value check for the DCCP module; if ehash insertion fails, indicating a successful insertion of the same connection, simply release the reqsk as well. Simultaneously, In the reqsk_queue_hash_req(), the start of the req->rsk_timer is adjusted to be after successful insertion. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After previous patch, even if timer fires immediately on another CPU, context that schedules the timer now holds the ehash spinlock, so timer cannot reap tw socket until ehash lock is released. * | net: tcp/dccp: prepare for tw_timer un-pinningValentin Schneider2024-06-101-2/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The TCP timewait timer is proving to be problematic for setups where scheduler CPU isolation is achieved at runtime via cpusets (as opposed to statically via isolcpus=domains). What happens there is a CPU goes through tcp_time_wait(), arming the time_wait timer, then gets isolated. TCP_TIMEWAIT_LEN later, the timer fires, causing interference for the now-isolated CPU. This is conceptually similar to the issue described in commit e02b93124855 ("workqueue: Unbind kworkers before sending them to exit()") Move inet_twsk_schedule() to within inet_twsk_hashdance(), with the ehash lock held. Expand the lock's critical section from inet_twsk_kill() to inet_twsk_deschedule_put(), serializing the scheduling vs descheduling of the timer. IOW, this prevents the following race: tcp_time_wait() inet_twsk_hashdance() inet_twsk_deschedule_put() del_timer_sync() inet_twsk_schedule() Thanks to Paolo Abeni for suggesting to leverage the ehash lock. This also restores a comment from commit ec94c2696f0b ("tcp/dccp: avoid one atomic operation for timewait hashdance") as inet_twsk_hashdance() had a "Step 1" and "Step 3" comment, but the "Step 2" had gone missing. inet_twsk_deschedule_put() now acquires the ehash spinlock to synchronize with inet_twsk_hashdance_schedule(). To ease possible regression search, actual un-pin is done in next patch. * net: add sk_wake_async_rcu() helperEric Dumazet2024-03-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While looking at UDP receive performance, I saw sk_wake_async() was no longer inlined. This matters at least on AMD Zen1-4 platforms (see SRSO) This might be because rcu_read_lock() and rcu_read_unlock() are no longer nops in recent kernels ? Add sk_wake_async_rcu() variant, which must be called from contexts already holding rcu lock. As SOCK_FASYNC is deprecated in modern days, use unlikely() to give a hint to the compiler. sk_wake_async_rcu() is properly inlined from __udp_enqueue_schedule_skb() and sock_def_readable(). * dccp/tcp: Call security_inet_conn_request() after setting IPv6 addresses.Kuniyuki Iwashima2023-11-021-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Initially, commit 4237c75c0a35 ("[MLSXFRM]: Auto-labeling of child sockets") introduced security_inet_conn_request() in some functions where reqsk is allocated. The hook is added just after the allocation, so reqsk's IPv6 remote address was not initialised then. However, SELinux/Smack started to read it in netlbl_req_setattr() after commit e1adea927080 ("calipso: Allow request sockets to be relabelled by the lsm."). Commit 284904aa7946 ("lsm: Relocate the IPv4 security_inet_conn_request() hooks") fixed that kind of issue only in TCPv4 because IPv6 labeling was not supported at that time. Finally, the same issue was introduced again in IPv6. Let's apply the same fix on DCCPv6 and TCPv6. Fixes: e1adea927080 ("calipso: Allow request sockets to be relabelled by the lsm.") * | ipv6: remove hard coded limitation on ipv6_pinfoEric Dumazet2023-07-242-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | IPv6 inet sockets are supposed to have a "struct ipv6_pinfo" field at the end of their definition, so that inet6_sk_generic() can derive from socket size the offset of the "struct ipv6_pinfo". This is very fragile, and prevents adding bigger alignment in sockets, because inet6_sk_generic() does not work if the compiler adds padding after the ipv6_pinfo component. We are currently working on a patch series to reorganize TCP structures for better data locality and found issues similar to the one fixed in commit f5d547676ca0 ("tcp: fix tcp_inet6_sk() for 32bit kernels") Alternative would be to force an alignment on "struct ipv6_pinfo", greater or equal to __alignof__(any ipv6 sock) to ensure there is no padding. * net: ioctl: Use kernel memory on protocol ioctl callbacksBreno Leitao2023-06-162-7/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most of the ioctls to net protocols operates directly on userspace argument (arg). Usually doing get_user()/put_user() directly in the ioctl callback. This is not flexible, because it is hard to reuse these functions without passing userspace buffers. Change the "struct proto" ioctls to avoid touching userspace memory and operate on kernel buffers, i.e., all protocol's ioctl callbacks is adapted to operate on a kernel memory other than on userspace (so, no more {put,get}_user() and friends being called in the ioctl callback). This changes the "struct proto" ioctl format in the following way: int (*ioctl)(struct sock *sk, int cmd, - unsigned long arg); + int *karg); (Important to say that this patch does not touch the "struct proto_ops" protocols) So, the "karg" argument, which is passed to the ioctl callback, is a pointer allocated to kernel space memory (inside a function wrapper). This buffer (karg) may contain input argument (copied from userspace in a prep function) and it might return a value/buffer, which is copied back to userspace if necessary. There is not one-size-fits-all format (that is I am using 'may' above), but basically, there are three type of ioctls: 1) Do not read from userspace, returns a result to userspace 2) Read an input parameter from userspace, and does not return anything to userspace 3) Read an input from userspace, and return a buffer to userspace. The default case (1) (where no input parameter is given, and an "int" is returned to userspace) encompasses more than 90% of the cases, but there are two other exceptions. Here is a list of exceptions: * Protocol RAW: * cmd = SIOCGETVIFCNT: * input and output = struct sioc_vif_req * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req * Explanation: for the SIOCGETVIFCNT case, userspace passes the input argument, which is struct sioc_vif_req. Then the callback populates the struct, which is copied back to userspace. * Protocol RAW6: * cmd = SIOCGETMIFCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_mif_req6 * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req6 * Protocol PHONET: * cmd == SIOCPNADDRESOURCE | SIOCPNDELRESOURCE * input int (4 bytes) * Nothing is copied back to userspace. For the exception cases, functions sock_sk_ioctl_inout() will copy the userspace input, and copy it back to kernel space. The wrapper that prepare the buffer and put the buffer back to user is sk_ioctl(), so, instead of calling sk->sk_prot->ioctl(), the callee now calls sk_ioctl(), which will handle all cases. We add a new helper which clones a skb and sets its owner only when sk_rmem_schedule() succeeds. Note that we move skb_set_owner_r() forward in (dccp|tcp)_v6_do_rcv() because tcp_send_synack() can make sk_forward_alloc negative before ipv6_opt_accepted() in the crossed SYN-ACK or self-connect() cases. | * dccp/tcp: Update saddr under bhash's lock.Kuniyuki Iwashima2022-11-232-37/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When we call connect() for a socket bound to a wildcard address, we update saddr locklessly. However, it could result in a data race; another thread iterating over bhash might see a corrupted address. Let's update saddr under the bhash bucket's lock. Fixes: 3df80d9320bc ("[DCCP]: Introduce DCCPv6") Fixes: 7c657876b63c ("[DCCP]: Initial implementation") Fixes: 1da177e4c3f4 ("Linux-2.6.12-rc2") Signed-off-by: Kuniyuki Iwashima <kuniyu@amazon.com> Acked-by: Joanne Koong <joannelkoong@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
| * dccp/tcp: Reset saddr on failure after inet6?_hash_connect().Kuniyuki Iwashima2022-11-232-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When connect() is called on a socket bound to the wildcard address, we change the socket's saddr to a local address. If the socket fails to connect() to the destination, we have to reset the saddr. However, when an error occurs after inet_hash6?_connect() in (dccp|tcp)_v[46]_conect(), we forget to reset saddr and leave the socket bound to the address. From the user's point of view, whether saddr is reset or not varies with errno. Let's fix this inconsistent behaviour. Note that after this patch, the repro [0] will trigger the WARN_ON() in inet_csk_get_port() again, but this patch is not buggy and rather fixes a bug papering over the bhash2's bug for which we need another fix. For the record, the repro causes -EADDRNOTAVAIL in inet_hash6_connect() by this sequence: s1 = socket() s1.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, 1) s1.bind(('127.0.0.1', 10000)) s1.sendto(b'hello', MSG_FASTOPEN, (('127.0.0.1', 10000))) # or s1.connect(('127.0.0.1', 10000)) s2 = socket() s2.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, 1) s2.bind(('0.0.0.0', 10000)) s2.connect(('127.0.0.1', 10000)) # -EADDRNOTAVAIL s2.listen(32) # WARN_ON(inet_csk(sk)->icsk_bind2_hash != tb2); [0]: https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=015d756bbd1f8b5c8f09 Fixes: 3df80d9320bc ("[DCCP]: Introduce DCCPv6") Fixes: 7c657876b63c ("[DCCP]: Initial implementation") Fixes: 1da177e4c3f4 ("Linux-2.6.12-rc2") Signed-off-by: Kuniyuki Iwashima <kuniyu@amazon.com> Acked-by: Joanne Koong <joannelkoong@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
* | dccp: Call inet6_destroy_sock() via sk->sk_destruct().Kuniyuki Iwashima2022-10-243-8/+16
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After commit d38afeec26ed ("tcp/udp: Call inet6_destroy_sock() in IPv6 sk->sk_destruct()."), we call inet6_destroy_sock() in sk->sk_destruct() by setting inet6_sock_destruct() to it to make sure we do not leak inet6-specific resources. DCCP sets its own sk->sk_destruct() in the dccp_init_sock(), and DCCPv6 socket shares it by calling the same init function via dccp_v6_init_sock(). To call inet6_sock_destruct() from DCCPv6 sk->sk_destruct(), we export it and set dccp_v6_sk_destruct() in the init function.
