* net: Kill dev_rebuild_headerEric W. Biederman2015-03-021-31/+0

* net: Remove iocb argument from sendmsg and recvmsgYing Xue2015-03-021-4/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | After TIPC doesn't depend on iocb argument in its internal implementations of sendmsg() and recvmsg() hooks defined in proto structure, no any user is using iocb argument in them at all now. Then we can drop the redundant iocb argument completely from kinds of implementations of both sendmsg() and recvmsg() in the entire networking stack. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This encapsulates all of the skb_copy_datagram_iovec() callers with call argument signature "skb, offset, msghdr->msg_iov, length". When we move to iov_iters in the networking, the iov_iter object will sit in the msghdr. Having a helper like this means there will be less places to touch during that transformation. * net: Fix use after free by removing length arg from sk_data_ready callbacks.David S. Miller2014-04-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like: skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb); sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len); But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially to freed up memory. Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is possible that the value isn't accurate. And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and even '1'. So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get fixed as a side effect. Based upon a patch by Eric Dumazet and his suggestion to audit this issue tree-wide. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* net: add build-time checks for msg->msg_name sizeSteffen Hurrle2014-01-191-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a follow-up patch to f3d3342602f8bc ("net: rework recvmsg handler msg_name and msg_namelen logic"). DECLARE_SOCKADDR validates that the structure we use for writing the name information to is not larger than the buffer which is reserved for msg->msg_name (which is 128 bytes). * net: rework recvmsg handler msg_name and msg_namelen logicHannes Frederic Sowa2013-11-211-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage) to return msg_name to the user. This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak uninitialized memory. Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets msg_name to NULL. Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David Miller. Changes since RFC: Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of verify_iovec. With this change in place I could remove " if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0) msg->msg_name = NULL ". This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL. Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change comments to netdev style. * hlist: drop the node parameter from iteratorsSasha Levin2013-02-282-25/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member) The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter: hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member) Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. If userland passes a not zero terminated string to the kernel adding a node to the routing table might result in the kernel attempting to read copy a too long string. The 7th byte in the mnemonic array exists only as a \0 termination character for the kernel code's convenience. Fixed by rejecting mnemonic strings that have no terminating \0 in the first 7 characters. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. | * net: pass kern to net_proto_family create functionEric Paris2009-11-061-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The generic __sock_create function has a kern argument which allows the security system to make decisions based on if a socket is being created by the kernel or by userspace. This patch passes that flag to the net_proto_family specific create function, so it can do the same thing. * | sysctl net: Remove unused binary sysctl codeEric W. Biederman2009-11-121-27/+3
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that sys_sysctl is a compatiblity wrapper around /proc/sys all sysctl strategy routines, and all ctl_name and strategy entries in the sysctl tables are unused, and can be revmoed. In addition neigh_sysctl_register has been modified to no longer take a strategy argument and it's callers have been modified not to pass one. * net: Make setsockopt() optlen be unsigned.David S. Miller2009-10-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | This provides safety against negative optlen at the type level instead of depending upon (sometimes non-trivial) checks against this sprinkled all over the the place, in each and every implementation. Based upon work done by Arjan van de Ven and feedback from Linus Torvalds. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

| * NETROM: Fix use of static bufferRalf Baechle2009-08-181-9/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The static variable used by nr_call_to_digi might result in corruption if multiple threads are trying to usee a node or neighbour via ioctl. Fixed by having the caller pass a structure in. This is safe because nr_add_node rsp. nr_add_neigh will allocate a permanent structure, if needed. * net: sk_wmem_alloc has initial value of one, not zeroEric Dumazet2009-06-171-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 2b85a34e911bf483c27cfdd124aeb1605145dc80 (net: No more expensive sock_hold()/sock_put() on each tx) changed initial sk_wmem_alloc value. Some protocols check sk_wmem_alloc value to determine if a timer must delay socket deallocation. We must take care of the sk_wmem_alloc value being one instead of zero when no write allocations are pending. Reported by Ingo Molnar, and full diagnostic from David Miller. This patch introduces three helpers to get read/write allocations and a followup patch will use these helpers to report correct write allocations to user.
