* net: avoid double iput when sock_alloc_file failsThadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo2023-03-091-7/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When sock_alloc_file fails to allocate a file, it will call sock_release. __sys_socket_file should then not call sock_release again, otherwise there will be a double free. Add tools for generating kernel data structures and uAPI headers. - Expose all net/core sysctls inside netns. - Remove 4s sleep in netpoll if carrier is instantly detected on boot. - Add configurable limit of MDB entries per port, and port-vlan. - Continue populating drop reasons throughout the stack. - Retire a handful of legacy Qdiscs and classifiers. Protocols: - Support IPv4 big TCP (TSO frames larger than 64kB). - Add IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE socket option, to control local port range on socket by socket basis. - Track and report in procfs number of MPTCP sockets used. - Support mixing IPv4 and IPv6 flows in the in-kernel MPTCP path manager. - IPv6: don't check net.ipv6.route.max_size and rely on garbage collection to free memory (similarly to IPv4). - Support Penultimate Segment Pop (PSP) flavor in SRv6 (RFC8986). - ICMP: add per-rate limit counters. - Add support for user scanning requests in ieee802154. - Remove static WEP support. - Support minimal Wi-Fi 7 Extremely High Throughput (EHT) rate reporting. - WiFi 7 EHT channel puncturing support (client & AP). BPF: - Add a rbtree data structure following the "next-gen data structure" precedent set by recently added linked list, that is, by using kfunc + kptr instead of adding a new BPF map type. - Expose XDP hints via kfuncs with initial support for RX hash and timestamp metadata. - Add BPF_F_NO_TUNNEL_KEY extension to bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key to better support decap on GRE tunnel devices not operating in collect metadata. - Improve x86 JIT's codegen for PROBE_MEM runtime error checks. - Remove the need for trace_printk_lock for bpf_trace_printk and bpf_trace_vprintk helpers. - Extend libbpf's bpf_tracing.h support for tracing arguments of kprobes/uprobes and syscall as a special case. - Significantly reduce the search time for module symbols by livepatch and BPF. - Enable cpumasks to be used as kptrs, which is useful for tracing programs tracking which tasks end up running on which CPUs in different time intervals. - Add support for BPF trampoline on s390x and riscv64. - Add capability to export the XDP features supported by the NIC. - Add __bpf_kfunc tag for marking kernel functions as kfuncs. - Add cgroup.memory=nobpf kernel parameter option to disable BPF memory accounting for container environments. Netfilter: - Remove the CLUSTERIP target. It has been marked as obsolete for years, and we still have WARN splats wrt races of the out-of-band /proc interface installed by this target. - Add 'destroy' commands to nf_tables. They are identical to the existing 'delete' commands, but do not return an error if the referenced object (set, chain, rule...) did not exist. Driver API: - Improve cpumask_local_spread() locality to help NICs set the right IRQ affinity on AMD platforms. - Separate C22 and C45 MDIO bus transactions more clearly. - Introduce new DCB table to control DSCP rewrite on egress. - Support configuration of Physical Layer Collision Avoidance (PLCA) Reconciliation Sublayer (RS) (802.3cg-2019). Modern version of shared medium Ethernet. - Support for MAC Merge layer (IEEE 802.3-2018 clause 99). Allowing preemption of low priority frames by high priority frames. - Add support for controlling MACSec offload using netlink SET. - Rework devlink instance refcounts to allow registration and de-registration under the instance lock. Split the code into multiple files, drop some of the unnecessarily granular locks and factor out common parts of netlink operation handling. - Add TX frame aggregation parameters (for USB drivers). - Add a new attr TCA_EXT_WARN_MSG to report TC (offload) warning messages with notifications for debug. - Allow offloading of UDP NEW connections via act_ct. - Add support for per action HW stats in TC. - Support hardware miss to TC action (continue processing in SW from a specific point in the action chain). - Warn if old Wireless Extension user space interface is used with modern cfg80211/mac80211 drivers. Do not support Wireless Extensions for Wi-Fi 7 devices at all. Everyone should switch to using nl80211 interface instead. - Improve the CAN bit timing configuration. Use extack to return error messages directly to user space, update the SJW handling, including the definition of a new default value that will benefit CAN-FD controllers, by increasing their oscillator tolerance. Regarding monitoring the tcp/udp traffic of each process, there are two existing solutions, the first one is https://www.atoptool.nl/netatop.php. The second is via kprobe/kretprobe. Netatop solution is implemented by registering the hook function at the hook point provided by the netfilter framework. These hook functions may be in the soft interrupt context and cannot directly obtain the pid. Some data structures are added to bind packets and processes. For example, struct taskinfobucket, struct taskinfo ... Every time the process sends and receives packets it needs multiple hashmaps,resulting in low performance and it has the problem fo inaccurate tcp/udp traffic statistics(for example: multiple threads share sockets). We can obtain the information with kretprobe, but as we know, kprobe gets the result by trappig in an exception, which loses performance compared to tracepoint. We compared the performance of tracepoints with the above two methods, and the results are as follows: ab -n 1000000 -c 1000 -r http://127.0.0.1/index.html without trace: Time per request: 39.660 [ms] (mean) Time per request: 0.040 [ms] (mean, across all concurrent requests) netatop: Time per request: 50.717 [ms] (mean) Time per request: 0.051 [ms] (mean, across all concurrent requests) kr: Time per request: 43.168 [ms] (mean) Time per request: 0.043 [ms] (mean, across all concurrent requests) tracepoint: Time per request: 41.004 [ms] (mean) Time per request: 0.041 [ms] (mean, across all concurrent requests It can be seen that tracepoint has better performance. As promised in last cycle's pull request message this converts everything to rely on struct mnt_idmap. Currently we still pass around the plain namespace that was attached to a mount. This is in general pretty convenient but it makes it easy to conflate namespaces that are relevant on the filesystem with namespaces that are relevant on the mount level. Especially for non-vfs developers without detailed knowledge in this area this was a potential source for bugs. This finishes the conversion. Instead of passing the plain namespace around this updates all places that currently take a pointer to a mnt_userns with a pointer to struct mnt_idmap. Now that the conversion is done all helpers down to the really low-level helpers only accept a struct mnt_idmap argument instead of two namespace arguments. Conflating mount and other idmappings will now cause the compiler to complain loudly thus eliminating the possibility of any bugs. This makes it impossible for filesystem developers to mix up mount and filesystem idmappings as they are two distinct types and require distinct helpers that cannot be used interchangeably. Everything associated with struct mnt_idmap is moved into a single separate file. With that change no code can poke around in struct mnt_idmap. It can only be interacted with through dedicated helpers. That means all filesystems are and all of the vfs is completely oblivious to the actual implementation of idmappings. We are now also able to extend struct mnt_idmap as we see fit. For example, we can decouple it completely from namespaces for users that don't require or don't want to use them at all. We can also extend the concept of idmappings so we can cover filesystem specific requirements. In combination with the vfs{g,u}id_t work we finished in v6.2 this makes this feature substantially more robust and thus difficult to implement wrong by a given filesystem and also protects the vfs. - Enable idmapped mounts for tmpfs and fulfill a longstanding request. A long-standing request from users had been to make it possible to create idmapped mounts for tmpfs. For example, to share the host's tmpfs mount between multiple sandboxes. This is a prerequisite for some advanced Kubernetes cases. Systemd also has a range of use-cases to increase service isolation. And there are more users of this. However, with all of the other work going on this was way down on the priority list but luckily someone other than ourselves picked this up. As usual the patch is tiny as all the infrastructure work had been done multiple kernel releases ago. In addition to all the tests that we already have I requested that Rodrigo add a dedicated tmpfs testsuite for idmapped mounts to xfstests. It is to be included into xfstests during the v6.3 development cycle. This should add a slew of additional tests. * tag 'fs.idmapped.v6.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/idmapping: (26 commits) shmem: support idmapped mounts for tmpfs fs: move mnt_idmap fs: port vfs{g,u}id helpers to mnt_idmap fs: port fs{g,u}id helpers to mnt_idmap fs: port i_{g,u}id_into_vfs{g,u}id() to mnt_idmap fs: port i_{g,u}id_{needs_}update() to mnt_idmap quota: port to mnt_idmap fs: port privilege checking helpers to mnt_idmap fs: port inode_owner_or_capable() to mnt_idmap fs: port inode_init_owner() to mnt_idmap fs: port acl to mnt_idmap fs: port xattr to mnt_idmap fs: port ->permission() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->fileattr_set() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->set_acl() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->get_acl() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->tmpfile() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->rename() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->mknod() to pass mnt_idmap fs: port ->mkdir() to pass mnt_idmap ...

It works with both registered and normal buffers, mixing is allowed but not recommended. Apart from usual request completions, just as with MSG_ZEROCOPY, io_uring separately notifies the userspace when buffers are freed and can be reused (see API design below), which is delivered into io_uring's Completion Queue. Those "buffer-free" notifications are not necessarily per request, but the userspace has control over it and should explicitly attaching a number of requests to a single notification. The series also adds some internal optimisations when used with registered buffers like removing page referencing. From the kernel networking perspective there are two main changes. The first one is passing ubuf_info into the network layer from io_uring (inside of an in kernel struct msghdr). This allows extra optimisations, e.g. ubuf_info caching on the io_uring side, but also helps to avoid cross-referencing and synchronisation problems. The second part is an optional optimisation removing page referencing for requests with registered buffers. Benchmarking UDP with an optimised version of the selftest (see [1]), which sends a bunch of requests, waits for completions and repeats. "+ flush" column posts one additional "buffer-free" notification per request, and just "zc" doesn't post buffer notifications at all. NIC (requests / second): IO size | non-zc | zc | zc + flush 4000 | 495134 | 606420 (+22%) | 558971 (+12%) 1500 | 551808 | 577116 (+4.5%) | 565803 (+2.5%) 1000 | 584677 | 592088 (+1.2%) | 560885 (-4%) 600 | 596292 | 598550 (+0.4%) | 555366 (-6.7%) dummy (requests / second): IO size | non-zc | zc | zc + flush 8000 | 1299916 | 2396600 (+84%) | 2224219 (+71%) 4000 | 1869230 | 2344146 (+25%) | 2170069 (+16%) 1200 | 2071617 | 2361960 (+14%) | 2203052 (+6%) 600 | 2106794 | 2381527 (+13%) | 2195295 (+4%) Previously it also brought a massive performance speedup compared to the msg_zerocopy tool (see [3]), which is probably not super interesting. There is also an additional bunch of refcounting optimisations that was omitted from the series for simplicity and as they don't change the picture drastically, they will be sent as follow up, as well as flushing optimisations closing the performance gap b/w two last columns. For TCP on localhost (with hacks enabling localhost zerocopy) and including additional overhead for receive: IO size | non-zc | zc 1200 | 4174 | 4148 4096 | 7597 | 11228 Using a real NIC 1200 bytes, zc is worse than non-zc ~5-10%, maybe the omitted optimisations will somewhat help, should look better for 4000, but couldn't test properly because of setup problems. From the userspace perspective it's an entity to which it can bind one or more requests and then requesting to flush it. Flushing a notifier makes it impossible to attach new requests to it, and instructs the notifier to post a completion once all requests attached to it are completed and the kernel doesn't need the buffers anymore. Notifications are stored in notification slots, which should be registered as an array in io_uring. Each slot stores only one notifier at any particular moment. Flushing removes it from the slot and the slot automatically replaces it with a new notifier. All operations with notifiers are done by specifying an index of a slot it's currently in. When registering a notification the userspace specifies a u64 tag for each slot, which will be copied in notification completion entries as cqe::user_data. cqe::res is 0 and cqe::flags is equal to wrap around u32 sequence number counting notifiers of a slot. ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/cover.1657643355.git.asml.silence@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If a physical clock supports a free running cycle counter, then timestamps shall be based on this time too. For TX it is known in advance before the transmission if a timestamp based on the free running cycle counter is needed. For RX it is impossible to know which timestamp is needed before the packet is received and assigned to a socket. Support late timestamp determination by a network device. Therefore, an address/cookie is stored within the new netdev_data field of struct skb_shared_hwtstamps. This address/cookie is provided to a new network device function called ndo_get_tstamp(), which returns a timestamp based on the normal/adjustable time or based on the free running cycle counter. If function is not supported, then timestamp handling is not changed. This mechanism is intended for RX, but TX use is also possible. But some userland tools ignore that and use SIOC{G,S}IFBR unconditionally as seen with busybox's brctl. | | * net: don't unconditionally copy_from_user a struct ifreq for socket ioctlsPeter Collingbourne2021-08-271-1/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A common implementation of isatty(3) involves calling a ioctl passing a dummy struct argument and checking whether the syscall failed -- bionic and glibc use TCGETS (passing a struct termios), and musl uses TIOCGWINSZ (passing a struct winsize). If the FD is a socket, we will copy sizeof(struct ifreq) bytes of data from the argument and return -EFAULT if that fails. The result is that the isatty implementations may return a non-POSIX-compliant value in errno in the case where part of the dummy struct argument is inaccessible, as both struct termios and struct winsize are smaller than struct ifreq (at least on arm64). Although there is usually enough stack space following the argument on the stack that this did not present a practical problem up to now, with MTE stack instrumentation it's more likely for the copy to fail, as the memory following the struct may have a different tag. Fix the problem by adding an early check for whether the ioctl is a valid socket ioctl, and return -ENOTTY if it isn't. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Working towards obsoleting the .ndo_do_ioctl operation entirely, stop passing the SIOCBRADDIF/SIOCBRDELIF device ioctl commands into this callback. My first attempt was to add another ndo_siocbr() callback, but as there is only a single driver that takes these commands and there is already a hook mechanism to call directly into this driver, extend this hook instead, and use it for both the deviceless and the device specific ioctl commands. | * | net: socket: return changed ifreq from SIOCDEVPRIVATEArnd Bergmann2021-07-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Some drivers that use SIOCDEVPRIVATE ioctl commands modify the ifreq structure and expect it to be passed back to user space, which has never really happened for compat mode because the calling these drivers through ndo_do_ioctl requires overwriting the ifr_data pointer. Now that all drivers are converted to ndo_siocdevprivate, change it to handle this correctly in both compat and native mode. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: David S. | * | dev_ioctl: pass SIOCDEVPRIVATE data separatelyArnd Bergmann2021-07-271-42/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The compat handlers for SIOCDEVPRIVATE are incorrect for any driver that passes data as part of struct ifreq rather than as an ifr_data pointer, or that passes data back this way, since the compat_ifr_data_ioctl() helper overwrites the ifr_data pointer and does not copy anything back out. Since all drivers using devprivate commands are now converted to the new .ndo_siocdevprivate callback, fix this by adding the missing piece and passing the pointer separately the whole way. This further unifies the native and compat logic for socket ioctls, as the new code now passes the correct pointer as well as the correct data for both native and compat ioctls. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | compat_ifreq_ioctl() is one of the last users of copy_in_user() and compat_alloc_user_space(), as it attempts to convert the 'struct ifreq' arguments from 32-bit to 64-bit format as used by dev_ioctl() and a couple of socket family specific interpretations. The current implementation works correctly when calling dev_ioctl(), inet_ioctl(), ieee802154_sock_ioctl(), atalk_ioctl(), qrtr_ioctl() and packet_ioctl(). The ioctl handlers for x25, netrom, rose and x25 do not interpret the arguments and only block the corresponding commands, so they do not care. For af_inet6 and af_decnet however, the compat conversion is slightly incorrect, as it will copy more data than the native handler accesses, both of them use a structure that is shorter than ifreq. Replace the copy_in_user() conversion with a pair of accessor functions to read and write the ifreq data in place with the correct length where needed, while leaving the other ones to copy the (already compatible) structures directly. | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The ethtool compat ioctl handling is hidden away in net/socket.c, which introduces a couple of minor oddities: - The implementation may end up diverging, as seen in the RXNFC extension in commit 84a1d9c48200 ("net: ethtool: extend RXNFC API to support RSS spreading of filter matches") that does not work in compat mode. - Most architectures do not need the compat handling at all because u64 and compat_u64 have the same alignment. - On x86, the conversion is done for both x32 and i386 user space, but it's actually wrong to do it for x32 and cannot work there. - On 32-bit Arm, it never worked for compat oabi user space, since that needs to do the same conversion but does not. - It would be nice to get rid of both compat_alloc_user_space() and copy_in_user() throughout the kernel. None of these actually seems to be a serious problem that real users are likely to encounter, but fixing all of them actually leads to code that is both shorter and more readable.
