* samples/bpf: unify bpf program suffix to .bpf with tracing programsDaniel T. Lee2023-08-221-88/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, BPF programs typically have a suffix of .bpf.c. However, some programs still utilize a mixture of _kern.c suffix alongside the naming convention. In order to achieve consistency in the naming of these programs, this commit unifies the inconsistency in the naming convention of BPF kernel programs. Signed-off-by: Daniel T. * samples/bpf: convert to vmlinux.h with tracing programsDaniel T. Lee2023-08-221-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit replaces separate headers with a single vmlinux.h to tracing programs. Thanks to that, we no longer need to define the argument structure for tracing programs directly. For example, argument for the sched_switch tracpepoint (sched_switch_args) can be replaced with the vmlinux.h provided trace_event_raw_sched_switch. Additional defines have been added to the BPF program either directly or through the inclusion of net_shared.h. Defined values are PERF_MAX_STACK_DEPTH, IFNAMSIZ constants and __stringify() macro. This change enables the BPF program to access internal structures with BTF generated "vmlinux.h" header. Signed-off-by: Daniel T. * samples: bpf: Fix broken bpf programs due to removed symbolDaniel T. Lee2020-08-191-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | >From commit f1394b798814 ("block: mark blk_account_io_completion static") symbol blk_account_io_completion() has been marked as static, which makes it no longer possible to attach kprobe to this event. Currently, there are broken samples due to this reason. As a solution to this, attach kprobe events to blk_account_io_done() to modify them to perform the same behavior as before. * samples, bpf: Refactor kprobe, tail call kern progs map definitionDaniel T. Lee2020-05-191-12/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Because the previous two commit replaced the bpf_load implementation of the user program with libbpf, the corresponding kernel program's MAP definition can be replaced with new BTF-defined map syntax. This commit only updates the samples which uses libbpf API for loading bpf program not with bpf_load. Signed-off-by: Daniel T. * samples/bpf: Use consistent include paths for libbpfToke Høiland-Jørgensen2020-01-211-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix all files in samples/bpf to include libbpf header files with the bpf/ prefix, to be consistent with external users of the library. Also ensure that all includes of exported libbpf header files (those that are exported on 'make install' of the library) use bracketed includes instead of quoted. To make sure no new files are introduced that doesn't include the bpf/ prefix in its include, remove tools/lib/bpf from the include path entirely, and use tools/lib instead. * samples: bpf: fix: broken sample regarding removed functionDaniel T. Lee2019-02-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, running sample "task_fd_query" and "tracex3" occurs the following error. On kernel v5.0-rc* this sample will be unavailable due to the removal of function 'blk_start_request' at commit "a1ce35f". (function removed, as "Single Queue IO scheduler" no longer exists) $ sudo ./task_fd_query failed to create kprobe 'blk_start_request' error 'No such file or directory' This commit will change the function 'blk_start_request' to 'blk_mq_start_request' to fix the broken sample. * samples/bpf: Add IO latency analysis (iosnoop/heatmap) toolAlexei Starovoitov2015-04-021-0/+89
BPF C program attaches to blk_mq_start_request()/blk_update_request() kprobe events to calculate IO latency. For every completed block IO event it computes the time delta in nsec and records in a histogram map: map[log10(delta)*10]++ User space reads this histogram map every 2 seconds and prints it as a 'heatmap' using gray shades of text terminal. Black spaces have many events and white spaces have very few events. Left most space is the smallest latency, right most space is the largest latency in the range. Usage: $ sudo ./tracex3 and do 'sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/null' in other terminal. Observe IO latencies and how different activity (like 'make kernel') affects it. Similar experiments can be done for network transmit latencies, syscalls, etc. '-t' flag prints the heatmap using normal ascii characters: $ sudo ./tracex3 -t heatmap of IO latency # - many events with this latency - few events |1us |10us |100us |1ms |10ms |100ms |1s |10s *ooo. *O.#. # 221 . *# . # 125 .. .o#*.. # 55 . . . . .#O # 37 .# # 175 .#*. # 37 # # 199 . . *#*. # 55 *#..* # 42 # # 266 ...***Oo#*OO**o#* . # 629 # # 271 . .#o* o.*o* # 221 . . o* *#O.. # 50 Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@plumgrid.com> Cc: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@infradead.org> Cc: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Cc: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> Cc: David S.
