- Get rid of all the .fixup sections because this generates
misleading/wrong stacktraces and confuse RELIABLE_STACKTRACE and
LIVEPATCH as the backtrace misses the function which is being fixed
up.
- Add Straight Line Speculation mitigation support which uses a new
compiler switch -mharden-sls= which sticks an INT3 after a RET or an
indirect branch in order to block speculation after them. Reportedly,
CPUs do speculate behind such insns.

It's built tested on x86_64-allyesconfig using GCC-12 and GCC-11.
Maintenance overhead of this should be fairly low due to objtool

GCC 11 has introduced a new warning option, -Wtsan [1], to warn about
unsupported operations in the TSan runtime. But KCSAN != TSan runtime,
so none of the warnings apply.

Source files that disable KCSAN via KCSAN_SANITIZE := n, remove all
instrumentation, including explicit barrier instrumentation. With
instrumentation for memory barriers, in few places it is required to
enable just the explicit instrumentation for memory barriers to avoid
false positives.
Providing the Makefile variable KCSAN_INSTRUMENT_BARRIERS_obj.o or
KCSAN_INSTRUMENT_BARRIERS (for all files) set to 'y' only enables the
explicit barrier instrumentation.

Add support for modeling a subset of weak memory, which will enable
detection of a subset of data races due to missing memory barriers.
KCSAN's approach to detecting missing memory barriers is based on
modeling access reordering, and enabled if `CONFIG_KCSAN_WEAK_MEMORY=y`,
which depends on `CONFIG_KCSAN_STRICT=y`. The feature can be enabled or
disabled at boot and runtime via the `kcsan.weak_memory` boot parameter.
Each memory access for which a watchpoint is set up, is also selected
for simulated reordering within the scope of its function (at most 1
in-flight access).
We are limited to modeling the effects of "buffering" (delaying the
access), since the runtime cannot "prefetch" accesses (therefore no
acquire modeling). Once an access has been selected for reordering, it
is checked along every other access until the end of the function scope.
If an appropriate memory barrier is encountered, the access will no
longer be considered for reordering.
When the result of a memory operation should be ordered by a barrier,
KCSAN can then detect data races where the conflict only occurs as a
result of a missing barrier due to reordering accesses.

- Remove some twists in the console registration code. It does not
change the existing behavior except for one corner case. The proper
default console (with tty binding) will be registered again even when

For the gdb command lx-dmesg, the entire descriptor, info, and text
data regions are read into memory before printing any records. For
large kernel log buffers, this not only causes a huge delay before
seeing any records, but it may also lead to python errors of too
much memory allocation.
Rather than reading in all these regions in advance, read them as
needed and only read the regions for the particular record that is
being printed.
The gdb macro "dmesg" in Documentation/admin-guide/kdump/gdbmacros.txt
already prints out the kernel log buffer like this.

Commit 85bf17b28f97 ("recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well
as bcrl on s390") added a new alternative mnemonic for the existing brcl
instruction. This is required for the combination old gcc version (pre 9.0)
and binutils since version 2.37.
However at the same time this commit introduced a typo, replacing brcl with
bcrl. As a result no mcount locations are detected anymore with old gcc
versions (pre 9.0) and binutils before version 2.37.
Fix this by using the correct mnemonic again.

On s390, recordmcount.pl is looking for "bcrl 0,<xxx>" instructions in
the objdump -d outpout. However since binutils 2.37, objdump -d
display "jgnop <xxx>" for the same instruction. Update the
mcount_regex so that it accepts both.

This allows to selectively autoload drivers for ISH devices.
Currently all ISH drivers are loaded for all systems having any ISH

do_div() does a 64-by-32 division.
When the divisor is unsigned long, u64, or s64,
do_div() truncates it to 32 bits, this means it
can test non-zero and be truncated to zero for division.

As commit 7ae4a78daacf ("ARM: 8969/1: decompressor: simplify libfdt

This is related to two previous changes. Commit dfe4529ee4d3
("scripts/gdb: find vmlinux where it was before") and commit da036ae14762
("scripts/gdb: handle split debug").
Although Chrome OS has been using the debug suffix for modules for a
while, it has just recently started using it for vmlinux as well. That
means we've now got to improve the detection of "vmlinux" to also handle
that it might end with ".debug".

The standard location of dictionary.txt is under codespell's package, on
my machine atm (codespell 2.1, Artix Linux):

Since we enable the codespell by default for SOF I have constant:

The EXPORT_SYMBOL test expects a single argument but definitions of

If this function fails to touch a dummy header due to missing parent
directory, then it creates it and touches the file again.
This was needed because CONFIG_FOO_BAR was previously tracked by
include/config/foo/bar.h. (include/config/foo/ may not exist here)
This is no longer the case since commit 0e0345b77ac4 ("kbuild: redo
fake deps at include/config/*.h"); now all the fake headers are placed
right under include/config/, like include/config/FOO_BAR.
Do not try to create parent directory, include/config/, which already
exists.

The if ... else inside the for-loop is unneeded because one empty
line is placed after printing the last element of deps_config.
Currently, all errors in conf_write_dep() are ignored. Add proper
error checks.
Rename it to conf_write_autoconf_cmd(), which is more intuitive.

argument, and it is not used in the function.

sym_escape_string_value() returns a malloc'ed memory, but as
(const char *). So, it must be casted to (void *) when it is free'd.
This is odd.
The return type of sym_escape_string_value() should be (char *).
I exploited that free(NULL) has no effect.

In Kconfig, like Python, you can enclose a string by double-quotes or
single-quotes. So, both "foo" and 'foo' are allowed.
The variable, "str", is used to remember whether the string started with
a double-quote or a single-quote because open/closing quotation marks
must match.
The name "str" is too generic to understand the intent. Rename it to
"open_quote", which is easier to understand. The type should be 'char'.

When one searches for a main menu item, links aren't created for it like
with the rest of the symbols.
This happens because we trace the item until we get to the rootmenu, but
we don't include it in the path of the item. The rationale was probably
that we don't want to show the main menu in the path of all items,
because it is redundant.
However, when an item has only the rootmenu in its path it should be
included, because this way the user can jump to its location.
Add a 'Main menu' entry in the 'Location:' section for the kconfig
items.
This makes the 'if (i > 0)' superfluous because each item with prompt
will have at least one menu in its path.

compilation, hence postponed by the link time.
Reuse $(cmd_objtool) for CONFIG_LTO_CLANG=y by defining objtool-enabled
properly.

objtool-enabled is on for %.lto link
For CONFIG_LTO_CLANG=n:
objtool-enabled is on for %.o compilation

Redo commit 8852c5524029 ("kbuild: Fix objtool dependency for
'OBJECT_FILES_NON_STANDARD_<obj> := n'") to add the objtool
dependency in a cleaner way.
Using .SECONDEXPANSION ends up with unreadable code due to escaped
dollars. Also, it is not efficient because the second half of
Makefile.build is parsed twice every time.
Append the objtool dependency to the *.cmd files at the build time.
This is what fixdep and gen_ksymdeps.sh already do. So, following the
same pattern seems a natural solution.
This allows us to drop $$(objtool_dep) entirely.

objtool_dep includes include/config/{ORC_UNWINDER,STACK_VALIDATION}
so that all the objects are rebuilt when CONFIG_ORC_UNWINDER or
CONFIG_STACK_VALIDATION is toggled.
BTW, the correct option name is not CONFIG_ORC_UNWINDER, but
CONFIG_UNWINDER_ORC. Commit 11af847446ed ("x86/unwind: Rename
unwinder config options to 'CONFIG_UNWINDER_*'") missed to
adjust this part. So, this dependency has been broken for a
long time.
As you can see in 'objtool_args', there are more CONFIG options
that affect the objtool command line.
Adding more and more include/config/* is ugly and unmaintainable.
Another issue is that non-standard objects are needlessly rebuilt.
Objects specified as OBJECT_FILES_NON_STANDARD is not processed by
objtool, but they are rebuilt anyway when CONFIG_STACK_VALIDATION
is toggled. This is not a big deal, but better to fix.
A cleaner and more precise fix is to include the objtool command in
*.cmd files so any command change is naturally detected by if_change.

Rename __objtool_obj to objtool, and move it out of the
'ifndef CONFIG_LTO_CLANG' conditional, so it can be used for
cmd_cc_lto_link_modules as well.
