I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert - and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci limitations. The script also does not convert files that should be valid to convert, but that currently have .llseek = noop_llseek or generic_file_llseek for unknown reason despite file being opened with nonseekable_open (e.g. drivers/input/mousedev.c) Among cases converted 14 were potentially vulnerable to read vs write deadlock (see details in 10dce8af3422): drivers/char/pcmcia/cm4000_cs.c:1685:7-23: ERROR: cm4000_fops: .read() can deadlock .write(); In the current code, this mechanism doesn't work when the driver is built-in while the sequencer is module. We check with IS_REACHABLE() and enable only when the sequencer is in the same level of build. However, this is basically a overshoot. The binder code (snd-seq-device) is an individual module from the sequencer core (snd-seq), and we just have to make the former a built-in while keeping the latter a module for allowing the scenario like the above. This patch achieves that by rewriting Kconfig slightly. Now, a driver that provides the manual sequencer device binding should select CONFIG_SND_SEQ_DEVICE in a way as select SND_SEQ_DEVICE if SND_SEQUENCER != n Note that the "!=n" is needed here to avoid the influence of the sequencer core is module while the driver is built-in. Also, since rawmidi.o may be linked with snd_seq_device.o when built-in, we have to shuffle the code to make the linker happy. (the kernel linker isn't smart enough yet to handle such a case.) That is, snd_seq_device.c is moved to sound/core from sound/core/seq, as well as Makefile. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The rawmidi read and write functions manage runtime stream status such as runtime->appl_ptr and runtime->avail. These point where to copy the new data and how many bytes have been copied (or to be read). The problem is that rawmidi read/write call copy_from_user() or copy_to_user(), and the runtime spinlock is temporarily unlocked and relocked while copying user-space. Since the current code advances and updates the runtime status after the spin unlock/relock, the copy and the update may be asynchronous, and eventually runtime->avail might go to a negative value when many concurrent accesses are done. We may use snd_rawmidi_transmit() in a loop just for consuming the input data, but even there, there is a race between snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_tranmit_ack(). Similarly in the latter case, it calls snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_tranmit_ack() separately without protection, so they are racy as well. The patch tries to address these issues by the following ways: - Introduce the unlocked versions of snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_transmit_ack() to be called inside the explicit lock. - Rewrite snd_rawmidi_transmit() to be race-free (the former case). - Make the split calls (the latter case) protected in the rawmidi spin lock. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While Linux provided an O_SYNC flag basically since day 1, it took until Linux 2.4.0-test12pre2 to actually get it implemented for filesystems, since that day we had generic_osync_around with only minor changes and the great "For now, when the user asks for O_SYNC, we'll actually give O_DSYNC" comment. This patch intends to actually give us real O_SYNC semantics in addition to the O_DSYNC semantics. After Jan's O_SYNC patches which are required before this patch it's actually surprisingly simple, we just need to figure out when to set the datasync flag to vfs_fsync_range and when not. This patch renames the existing O_SYNC flag to O_DSYNC while keeping it's numerical value to keep binary compatibility, and adds a new real O_SYNC flag. To guarantee backwards compatiblity it is defined as expanding to both the O_DSYNC and the new additional binary flag (__O_SYNC) to make sure we are backwards-compatible when compiled against the new headers. This also means that all places that don't care about the differences can just check O_DSYNC and get the right behaviour for O_SYNC, too - only places that actuall care need to check __O_SYNC in addition. Drivers and network filesystems have been updated in a fail safe way to always do the full sync magic if O_DSYNC is set. The few places setting O_SYNC for lower layers are kept that way for now to stay failsafe. We enforce that O_DSYNC is set when __O_SYNC is set early in the open path to make sure we always get these sane options. Note that parisc really screwed up their headers as they already define a O_DSYNC that has always been a no-op. We try to repair it by using it for the new O_DSYNC and redefinining O_SYNC to send both the traditional O_SYNC numerical value _and_ the O_DSYNC one.
