* busctl: rename --num-matches= → --limit-messages=Lennart Poettering2024-10-291-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We should avoid unnecessary abbreviations for such messages, and this puts a maximum limit on things, hence it should indicate this in the name. Moreover, matches is a bit confusing, since most people will probably call "busctl monitor" without any match specification, i.e. zero matches, but that's not what was meant here at all. Also, add a brief switch for this (-N) since I figure in particular "-N1" might be a frequent operation people might want to use. Follow-up for: 989e843e7543b21b91de4368da44692d674722a5 See: #34048

| | | | | It's like busctl call, but it waits for a signal rather than a reply to a method call.

* Revert "man: add missing <cmdsynopsis> wrapper"Antonio Alvarez Feijoo2024-01-191-11/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit 35fc10756bc5302d2dff1c235f864fa23a6d8771. Although DocBook 4.5 states that `cmdsynopsis` can be used within `term` [1], and `term` within `varlistentry`, `man` does not display the list of commands after this change. FWIW, `cmdsynopsis` is used tree-wide within `refsynopsisdiv` only. [1] https://tdg.docbook.org/tdg/4.5/term

* man: update version informationAbderrahim Kitouni2023-09-191-3/+5
| | | | | | | | As I noticed a lot of missing information when trying to implement checking for missing info. I reimplemented the version information script to be more robust, and here is the result. Follow up to ec07c3c80b2b1bfa6788500202006ff85f5ae4f4
* man: add version infoAbderrahim Kitouni2023-08-291-16/+78
| | | | | | | | This tries to add information about when each option was added. It goes back to version 183. The version info is included from a separate file to allow generating it, which would allow more control on the formatting of the final output.

* bus-dump: change capture output to use pcapng (#21738)Stephen Hemminger2021-12-251-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes busctl capture to generate pcapng format instead of the legacy pcap format files. It includes basic meta-data in the file and still uses microsecond time resolution. In future, more things can be added such as high resolution timestams, statistics, etc. PCAP Next Generation capture file format is what tshark uses and is in process of being standardized in IETF. It is also readable with libpcap. $ capinfos /tmp/new.pcapng File name: /tmp/new.pcapng File type: Wireshark/... - pcapng File encapsulation: D-Bus File timestamp precision: microseconds (6) Packet size limit: file hdr: (not set) Packet size limit: inferred: 4096 bytes Number of packets: 22 File size: 21kB Data size: 20kB Capture duration: 0.005694 seconds First packet time: 2021-12-11 11:57:42.788374 Last packet time: 2021-12-11 11:57:42.794068 Data byte rate: 3,671kBps Data bit rate: 29Mbps Average packet size: 950.27 bytes Average packet rate: 3,863 packets/s SHA256: b85ed8b094af60c64aa6d9db4a91404e841736d36b9e662d707db9e4096148f1 RIPEMD160: 81f9bac7ec0ec5cd1d55ede136a5c90413894e3a SHA1: 8400822ef724b934d6000f5b7604b9e6e91be011 Strict time order: True Capture oper-sys: Linux 5.14.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 Capture application: systemd 250 (250-rc2-33-gdc79ae2+) Number of interfaces in file: 1 Interface #0 info: Encapsulation = D-Bus (146 - dbus) Capture length = 4096 Time precision = microseconds (6) Time ticks per second = 1000000 Number of stat entries = 0 Number of packets = 22

* busctl: add introspect --xml-interfaceZbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek2019-04-231-0/+10
| | | | | | | | | This wraps the call to org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable.Introspect. Using "busctl call" directly is inconvenient because busctl escapes the string before printing. Example: $ busctl introspect --xml org.freedesktop.systemd1 /org/freedesktop/systemd1 | pygmentize -lxml | less -RF

* busctl: add a --json= output modeLennart Poettering2018-10-111-0/+22

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Docbook styles required those to be present, even though the templates that we use did not show those names anywhere. But something changed semi-recently (I would suspect docbook templates, but there was only a minor version bump in recent years, and the changelog does not suggest anything related), and builds now work without those entries. Let's drop this dead weight. Tested with F26-F29, debian unstable. $ perl -i -0pe 's/\s*<authorgroup>.*<.authorgroup>//gms' man/*xml

* tree-wide: beautify remaining copyright statementsLennart Poettering2018-06-141-1/+1
| | | | | | Let's unify an beautify our remaining copyright statements, with a unicode ©. This means our copyright statements are now always formatted the same way. Yay.
* tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurbLennart Poettering2018-06-141-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations: https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together. Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to change bits that are part of our copyright header for that. hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a bit.
* tree-wide: drop license boilerplateZbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek2018-04-061-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the extended header to avoid any doubt. I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

| | | | | | | | | | As kdbus won't land in the anticipated way, the bus-proxy is not needed in its current form. It can be resurrected at any time thanks to the history, but for now, let's remove it from the sources. If we'll have a similar tool in the future, it will look quite differently anyway. Note that stdio-bridge is still available. It was restored from a version prior to f252ff17, and refactored to make use of the current APIs.

* man: revert dynamic paths for split-usr setupsTom Gundersen2015-06-181-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This did not really work out as we had hoped. Trying to do this upstream introduced several problems that probably makes it better suited as a downstream patch after all. At any rate, it is not releaseable in the current state, so we at least need to revert this before the release. * by adjusting the path to binaries, but not do the same thing to the search path we end up with inconsistent man-pages. Adjusting the search path too would be quite messy, and it is not at all obvious that this is worth the effort, but at any rate it would have to be done before we could ship this. * this means that distributed man-pages does not make sense as they depend on config options, and for better or worse we are still distributing man pages, so that is something that definitely needs sorting out before we could ship with this patch. * we have long held that split-usr is only minimally supported in order to boot, and something we hope will eventually go away. So before we start adding even more magic/effort in order to make this work nicely, we should probably question if it makes sense at all.
* man: generate configured paths in manpagesFilipe Brandenburger2015-05-281-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In particular, use /lib/systemd instead of /usr/lib/systemd in distributions like Debian which still have not adopted a /usr merge setup. Use XML entities from man/custom-entities.ent to replace configured paths while doing XSLT processing of the original XML files. There was precedent of some files (such as systemd.generator.xml) which were already using this approach. This addresses most of the (manual) fixes from this patch: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/tree/debian/patches/Fix-paths-in-man-pages.patch?h=experimental-220 The idea of using generic XML entities was presented here: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2015-May/032240.html This patch solves almost all the issues, with the exception of: - Path to /bin/mount and /bin/umount. - Generic statements about preference of /lib over /etc. These will be handled separately by follow up patches. Tested: - With default configure settings, ran "make install" to two separate directories and compared the output to confirm they matched exactly. - Used a set of configure flags including $CONFFLAGS from Debian: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/tree/debian/rules Installed the tree and confirmed the paths use /lib/systemd instead of /usr/lib/systemd and that no other unexpected differences exist. - Confirmed that `make distcheck` still passes.
