The cited commit replaced inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop_and_put() with
__inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() and reqsk_put() in reqsk_timer_handler().
Then, oreq should be passed to reqsk_put() instead of req; otherwise
use-after-free of nreq could happen when reqsk is migrated but the
retry attempt failed (e.g. due to timeout).
Let's pass oreq to reqsk_put().

Martin KaFai Lau reported use-after-free [0] in reqsk_timer_handler().
"""
We are seeing a use-after-free from a bpf prog attached to
trace_tcp_retransmit_synack. The program passes the req->sk to the
bpf_sk_storage_get_tracing kernel helper which does check for null
before using it.
"""
The commit 83fccfc3940c ("inet: fix potential deadlock in
reqsk_queue_unlink()") added timer_pending() in reqsk_queue_unlink() not
to call del_timer_sync() from reqsk_timer_handler(), but it introduced a
small race window.
Before the timer is called, expire_timers() calls detach_timer(timer, true)
to clear timer->entry.pprev and marks it as not pending.
If reqsk_queue_unlink() checks timer_pending() just after expire_timers()
calls detach_timer(), TCP will miss del_timer_sync(); the reqsk timer will
continue running and send multiple SYN+ACKs until it expires.
The reported UAF could happen if req->sk is close()d earlier than the timer
expiration, which is 63s by default.
The scenario would be
1. inet_csk_complete_hashdance() calls inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop(),
but del_timer_sync() is missed
2. reqsk timer is executed and scheduled again
3. req->sk is accept()ed and reqsk_put() decrements rsk_refcnt, but
reqsk timer still has another one, and inet_csk_accept() does not
clear req->sk for non-TFO sockets
4. sk is close()d
5. reqsk timer is executed again, and BPF touches req->sk
Let's not use timer_pending() by passing the caller context to
__inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop().
Note that reqsk timer is pinned, so the issue does not happen in most
use cases. [1]

delack timer is not stopped from inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer()
because we do not define INET_CSK_CLEAR_TIMERS.
This is a conscious choice : inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer()
is often called from another cpu. Calling del_timer()
would cause false sharing and lock contention.
This means that very often, tcp_delack_timer() is called
at the timer expiration, while there is no ACK to transmit.
This can be detected very early, avoiding the socket spinlock.
Notes:
- test about tp->compressed_ack is racy,
but in the unlikely case there is a race, the dedicated
compressed_ack_timer hrtimer would close it.
- Even if the fast path is not taken, reading
icsk->icsk_ack.pending and tp->compressed_ack
before acquiring the socket spinlock reduces
acquisition time and chances of contention.

icsk->icsk_pending can be read locklessly already.
Following patch in the series will add another lockless read.
Add smp_load_acquire() and smp_store_release() annotations
because following patch will add a test in tcp_write_timer(),
and READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() alone would possibly lead to races.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vbabka/slab
Pull slab updates from Vlastimil Babka:
"This time it's mostly refactoring and improving APIs for slab users in
the kernel, along with some debugging improvements.
- kmem_cache_create() refactoring (Christian Brauner)
Over the years have been growing new parameters to
kmem_cache_create() where most of them are needed only for a small
number of caches - most recently the rcu_freeptr_offset parameter.
To avoid adding new parameters to kmem_cache_create() and adjusting
all its callers, or creating new wrappers such as
kmem_cache_create_rcu(), we can now pass extra parameters using the
new struct kmem_cache_args. Not explicitly initialized fields
default to values interpreted as unused.
kmem_cache_create() is for now a wrapper that works both with the
new form: kmem_cache_create(name, object_size, args, flags) and the
legacy form: kmem_cache_create(name, object_size, align, flags,
ctor)
- kmem_cache_destroy() waits for kfree_rcu()'s in flight (Vlastimil
Babka, Uladislau Rezki)
Since SLOB removal, kfree() is allowed for freeing objects
allocated by kmem_cache_create(). By extension kfree_rcu() as
allowed as well, which can allow converting simple call_rcu()
callbacks that only do kmem_cache_free(), as there was never a
kmem_cache_free_rcu() variant. However, for caches that can be
destroyed e.g. on module removal, the cache owners knew to issue
rcu_barrier() first to wait for the pending call_rcu()'s, and this
is not sufficient for pending kfree_rcu()'s due to its internal
batching optimizations. Ulad has provided a new
kvfree_rcu_barrier() and to make the usage less error-prone,
kmem_cache_destroy() calls it. Additionally, destroying
SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU caches now again issues rcu_barrier()
synchronously instead of using an async work, because the past
motivation for async work no longer applies. Users of custom
call_rcu() callbacks should however keep calling rcu_barrier()
before cache destruction.
- Debugging use-after-free in SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU caches (Jann Horn)
Currently, KASAN cannot catch UAFs in such caches as it is legal to
access them within a grace period, and we only track the grace
period when trying to free the underlying slab page. The new
CONFIG_SLUB_RCU_DEBUG option changes the freeing of individual
object to be RCU-delayed, after which KASAN can poison them.
- Delayed memcg charging (Shakeel Butt)
In some cases, the memcg is uknown at allocation time, such as
receiving network packets in softirq context. With
kmem_cache_charge() these may be now charged later when the user
and its memcg is known.
- Misc fixes and improvements (Pedro Falcato, Axel Rasmussen,
Christoph Lameter, Yan Zhen, Peng Fan, Xavier)"

At the moment, the slab objects are charged to the memcg at the
allocation time. However there are cases where slab objects are
allocated at the time where the right target memcg to charge it to is
not known. One such case is the network sockets for the incoming
connection which are allocated in the softirq context.
Couple hundred thousand connections are very normal on large loaded
server and almost all of those sockets underlying those connections get
allocated in the softirq context and thus not charged to any memcg.
However later at the accept() time we know the right target memcg to
charge. Let's add new API to charge already allocated objects, so we can
have better accounting of the memory usage.
To measure the performance impact of this change, tcp_crr is used from
the neper [1] performance suite. Basically it is a network ping pong
test with new connection for each ping pong.
The server and the client are run inside 3 level of cgroup hierarchy
using the following commands:
Server:
$ tcp_crr -6
Client:
$ tcp_crr -6 -c -H ${server_ip}
If the client and server run on different machines with 50 GBPS NIC,
there is no visible impact of the change.
For the same machine experiment with v6.11-rc5 as base.
base (throughput) with-patch
tcp_crr 14545 (+- 80) 14463 (+- 56)
It seems like the performance impact is within the noise.

When bonding is configured in BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode, if two identical
SYN packets are received at the same time and processed on different CPUs,
it can potentially create the same sk (sock) but two different reqsk
(request_sock) in tcp_conn_request().
These two different reqsk will respond with two SYNACK packets, and since
the generation of the seq (ISN) incorporates a timestamp, the final two
SYNACK packets will have different seq values.
The consequence is that when the Client receives and replies with an ACK
to the earlier SYNACK packet, we will reset(RST) it.
========================================================================
This behavior is consistently reproducible in my local setup,
which comprises:
| NETA1 ------ NETB1 |
PC_A --- bond --- | | --- bond --- PC_B
| NETA2 ------ NETB2 |
- PC_A is the Server and has two network cards, NETA1 and NETA2. I have
bonded these two cards using BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode and configured
them to be handled by different CPU.
- PC_B is the Client, also equipped with two network cards, NETB1 and
NETB2, which are also bonded and configured in BOND_MODE_BROADCAST mode.
If the client attempts a TCP connection to the server, it might encounter
a failure. Capturing packets from the server side reveals:
10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [S], seq 320236027,
10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [S], seq 320236027,
localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [S.], seq 2967855116,
localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [S.], seq 2967855123, <==
10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [.], ack 4294967290,
10.10.10.10.45182 > localhost: Flags [.], ack 4294967290,
localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [R], seq 2967855117, <==
localhost > 10.10.10.10.45182: Flags [R], seq 2967855117,
Two SYNACKs with different seq numbers are sent by localhost,
resulting in an anomaly.
========================================================================
The attempted solution is as follows:
Add a return value to inet_csk_reqsk_queue_hash_add() to confirm if the
ehash insertion is successful (Up to now, the reason for unsuccessful
insertion is that a reqsk for the same connection has already been
inserted). If the insertion fails, release the reqsk.
Due to the refcnt, Kuniyuki suggests also adding a return value check
for the DCCP module; if ehash insertion fails, indicating a successful
insertion of the same connection, simply release the reqsk as well.
Simultaneously, In the reqsk_queue_hash_req(), the start of the
req->rsk_timer is adjusted to be after successful insertion.

This adds an 'is_empty' argument to struct proto_accept_arg, which can
be used to pass back information on whether or not the given socket has
more connections to accept post the one just accepted.
To utilize this information, the caller should initialize the 'is_empty'
field to, eg, -1 and then check for 0/1 after the accept. If the field
has been set, the caller knows whether there are more pending connections
or not. If the field remains -1 after the accept call, the protocol
doesn't support passing back this information.
This patch wires it up for ipv4/6 TCP.

The 3rd bind() will match with the IPv6 only wildcard address bucket
in inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any(), however, no conflicting socket
exists in the bucket. So, inet_bhash2_conflict() will returns false,
and thus, inet_bhash2_addr_any_conflict() returns false consequently.
As a result, the 3rd bind() bypasses conflict check, which should be
done against the IPv4 wildcard address bucket.
So, in inet_bhash2_addr_any_conflict(), we must iterate over all buckets.
Note that we cannot add ipv6_only flag for inet_bind2_bucket as it
would confuse the following patetrn.
1. [::] w/ SO_REUSE{ADDR,PORT} and IPV6_V6ONLY
2. [::] w/ SO_REUSE{ADDR,PORT}
3. IPv4 non-wildcard address or v4-mapped-v6 non-wildcard address
The first bind() would create a bucket with ipv6_only flag true,
the second bind() would add the [::] socket into the same bucket,
and the third bind() could succeed based on the wrong assumption
that ipv6_only bucket would not conflict with v4(-mapped-v6) address.

non-wildcard addresses.
Commit 5e07e672412b ("tcp: Use bhash2 for v4-mapped-v6 non-wildcard
address.") introduced bind() regression for v4-mapped-v6 address.
When we bind() the following two addresses on the same port, the 2nd
bind() should succeed but fails now.
1. [::] w/ IPV6_ONLY
2. ::ffff:127.0.0.1
After the chagne, v4-mapped-v6 uses bhash2 instead of bhash to
detect conflict faster, but I forgot to add a necessary change.
During the 2nd bind(), inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any() returns
the tb2 bucket of [::], and inet_bhash2_conflict() finally calls
inet_bind_conflict(), which returns true, meaning conflict.
inet_bhash2_addr_any_conflict
|- inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any <-- return [::] bucket
`- inet_bhash2_conflict
`- __inet_bhash2_conflict <-- checks IPV6_ONLY for AF_INET
| but not for v4-mapped-v6 address
`- inet_bind_conflict <-- does not check address
inet_bind_conflict() does not check socket addresses because
__inet_bhash2_conflict() is expected to do so.
However, it checks IPV6_V6ONLY attribute only against AF_INET
socket, and not for v4-mapped-v6 address.
As a result, v4-mapped-v6 address conflicts with v6-only wildcard
address.
To avoid that, let's add the missing test to use bhash2 for
v4-mapped-v6 address.

We had various syzbot reports about tcp timers firing after
the corresponding netns has been dismantled.
Fortunately Josef Bacik could trigger the issue more often,
and could test a patch I wrote two years ago.
When TCP sockets are closed, we call inet_csk_clear_xmit_timers()
to 'stop' the timers.
inet_csk_clear_xmit_timers() can be called from any context,
including when socket lock is held.
This is the reason it uses sk_stop_timer(), aka del_timer().
This means that ongoing timers might finish much later.
For user sockets, this is fine because each running timer
holds a reference on the socket, and the user socket holds
a reference on the netns.
For kernel sockets, we risk that the netns is freed before
timer can complete, because kernel sockets do not hold
reference on the netns.
This patch adds inet_csk_clear_xmit_timers_sync() function
that using sk_stop_timer_sync() to make sure all timers
are terminated before the kernel socket is released.
Modules using kernel sockets close them in their netns exit()
handler.
Also add sock_not_owned_by_me() helper to get LOCKDEP
support : inet_csk_clear_xmit_timers_sync() must not be called
while socket lock is held.
It is very possible we can revert in the future commit
3a58f13a881e ("net: rds: acquire refcount on TCP sockets")
which attempted to solve the issue in rds only.
(net/smc/af_smc.c and net/mptcp/subflow.c have similar code)
We probably can remove the check_net() tests from
tcp_out_of_resources() and __tcp_close() in the future.

While testing for places where zero-sized destinations were still showing
up in the kernel, sock_copy() and inet_reqsk_clone() were found, which
are using very specific memcpy() offsets for both avoiding a portion of
struct sock, and copying beyond the end of it (since struct sock is really
just a common header before the protocol-specific allocation). Instead
of trying to unravel this historical lack of container_of(), just switch
to unsafe_memcpy(), since that's effectively what was happening already
(memcpy() wasn't checking 0-sized destinations while the code base was
being converted away from fake flexible arrays).
Avoid the following false positive warning with future changes to
CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE:
memcpy: detected field-spanning write (size 3068) of destination "&nsk->__sk_common.skc_dontcopy_end" at net/core/sock.c:2057 (size 0)

Set scope automatically in ip_route_output_ports() (using the socket
SOCK_LOCALROUTE flag). This way, callers don't have to overload the
tos with the RTO_ONLINK flag, like RT_CONN_FLAGS() does.
For callers that don't pass a struct sock, this doesn't change anything
as the scope is still set to RT_SCOPE_UNIVERSE when sk is NULL.
Callers that passed a struct sock and used RT_CONN_FLAGS(sk) or
RT_CONN_FLAGS_TOS(sk, tos) for the tos are modified to use
ip_sock_tos(sk) and RT_TOS(tos) respectively, as overloading tos with
the RTO_ONLINK flag now becomes unnecessary.
In drivers/net/amt.c, all ip_route_output_ports() calls use a 0 tos
parameter, ignoring the SOCK_LOCALROUTE flag of the socket. But the sk
parameter is a kernel socket, which doesn't have any configuration path
for setting SOCK_LOCALROUTE anyway. Therefore, ip_route_output_ports()
will continue to initialise scope with RT_SCOPE_UNIVERSE and amt.c
doesn't need to be modified.
Also, remove RT_CONN_FLAGS() and RT_CONN_FLAGS_TOS() from route.h as
these macros are now unused.
The objective is to eventually remove RTO_ONLINK entirely to allow
converting ->flowi4_tos to dscp_t. This will ensure proper isolation
between the DSCP and ECN bits, thus minimising the risk of introducing
bugs where TOS values interfere with ECN.

Sockets in bhash are also linked to bhash2, but TIME_WAIT sockets
are linked separately in tb2->deathrow.
Let's replace tb->owners iteration in inet_csk_bind_conflict() with
two iterations over tb2->owners and tb2->deathrow.
This can be done safely under bhash's lock because socket insertion/

bhash2 added a new member sk_bind2_node in struct sock to link
sockets to bhash2 in addition to bhash.
bhash is still needed to search conflicting sockets efficiently
from a port for the wildcard address. However, bhash itself need
not have sockets.
If we link each bhash2 bucket to the corresponding bhash bucket,
we can iterate the same set of the sockets from bhash2 via bhash.
This patch links bhash2 to bhash only, and the actual use will be
in the later patches. Finally, we will remove sk_bind2_node.

bhash for all v4-mapped-v6 addresses. But there is no good reason not
to use bhash2 for v4-mapped-v6 non-wildcard addresses.
Let's do it by returning true in inet_use_bhash2_on_bind(). Then, we
also need to add a test in inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any() so that
::ffff:X.X.X.X will match with 0.0.0.0.

Commit 227b60f5102cd added a seqlock to ensure that the low and high
port numbers were always updated together.
This is overkill because the two 16bit port numbers can be held in
a u32 and read/written in a single instruction.
More recently 91d0b78c5177f added support for finer per-socket limits.
The user-supplied value is 'high << 16 | low' but they are held
separately and the socket options protected by the socket lock.
Use a u32 containing 'high << 16 | low' for both the 'net' and 'sk'
fields and use READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() to ensure both values are
always updated together.
Change (the now trival) inet_get_local_port_range() to a static inline
to optimise the calling code.
(In particular avoiding returning integers by reference.)

As reported by Tom, .NET and applications build on top of it rely
on connect(AF_UNSPEC) to async cancel pending I/O operations on TCP
socket.
The blamed commit below caused a regression, as such cancellation
can now fail.
As suggested by Eric, this change addresses the problem explicitly
causing blocking I/O operation to terminate immediately (with an error)
when a concurrent disconnect() is executed.
Instead of tracking the number of threads blocked on a given socket,
track the number of disconnect() issued on such socket. If such counter
changes after a blocking operation releasing and re-acquiring the socket
lock, error out the current operation.

RT_CONN_FLAGS(sk) overloads the tos parameter with the RTO_ONLINK bit
when sk has the SOCK_LOCALROUTE flag set. This is only useful for
ip_route_output_key_hash() to eventually adjust the route scope.
Let's drop RTO_ONLINK and set the correct scope directly to avoid this
special case in the future and to allow converting ->flowi4_tos to
dscp_t.

Historically connect(AF_UNSPEC) has been abused by syzkaller
and other fuzzers to trigger various bugs.
A recent one triggers a divide-by-zero [1], and Paolo Abeni
was able to diagnose the issue.
tcp_recvmsg_locked() has tests about sk_state being not TCP_LISTEN
and TCP REPAIR mode being not used.
Then later if socket lock is released in sk_wait_data(),
another thread can call connect(AF_UNSPEC), then make this
socket a TCP listener.
When recvmsg() is resumed, it can eventually call tcp_cleanup_rbuf()
and attempt a divide by 0 in tcp_rcv_space_adjust() [1]
This patch adds a new socket field, counting number of threads
blocked in sk_wait_event() and inet_wait_for_connect().
If this counter is not zero, tcp_disconnect() returns an error.
This patch adds code in blocking socket system calls, thus should
not hurt performance of non blocking ones.
Note that we probably could revert commit 499350a5a6e7 ("tcp:
initialize rcv_mss to TCP_MIN_MSS instead of 0") to restore
original tcpi_rcv_mss meaning (was 0 if no payload was ever
received on a socket)

Commit e48c414ee61f ("[INET]: Generalise the TCP sock ID lookup routines")
commented out the definition of SOCK_REFCNT_DEBUG in 2005 and later another
commit 463c84b97f24 ("[NET]: Introduce inet_connection_sock") removed it.
Since we could track all of them through bpf and kprobe related tools
and the feature could print loads of information which might not be
that helpful even under a little bit pressure, the whole feature which
has been inactive for many years is no longer supported.

This code fix a bug that sk->sk_txrehash gets its default enable
value from sysctl_txrehash only when the socket is a TCP listener.
We should have sysctl_txrehash to set the default sk->sk_txrehash,
no matter TCP, nor listerner/connector.
Tested by following packetdrill:
0 socket(..., SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP) = 3
+0 socket(..., SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP) = 4
// SO_TXREHASH == 74, default to sysctl_txrehash == 1
+0 getsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, 74, [1], [4]) = 0
+0 getsockopt(4, SOL_SOCKET, 74, [1], [4]) = 0

Users who want to share a single public IP address for outgoing connections
between several hosts traditionally reach for SNAT. However, SNAT requires
state keeping on the node(s) performing the NAT.
A stateless alternative exists, where a single IP address used for egress
can be shared between several hosts by partitioning the available ephemeral
port range. In such a setup:
1. Each host gets assigned a disjoint range of ephemeral ports.
2. Applications open connections from the host-assigned port range.
3. Return traffic gets routed to the host based on both, the destination IP
and the destination port.
An application which wants to open an outgoing connection (connect) from a
given port range today can choose between two solutions:
1. Manually pick the source port by bind()'ing to it before connect()'ing
the socket.
This approach has a couple of downsides:
a) Search for a free port has to be implemented in the user-space. If
the chosen 4-tuple happens to be busy, the application needs to retry
from a different local port number.
Detecting if 4-tuple is busy can be either easy (TCP) or hard
(UDP). In TCP case, the application simply has to check if connect()
returned an error (EADDRNOTAVAIL). That is assuming that the local
port sharing was enabled (REUSEADDR) by all the sockets.
# Assume desired local port range is 60_000-60_511
s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM)
s.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, 1)
s.bind(("192.0.2.1", 60_000))
s.connect(("1.1.1.1", 53))
# Fails only if 192.0.2.1:60000 -> 1.1.1.1:53 is busy
# Application must retry with another local port
In case of UDP, the network stack allows binding more than one socket
to the same 4-tuple, when local port sharing is enabled
(REUSEADDR). Hence detecting the conflict is much harder and involves
querying sock_diag and toggling the REUSEADDR flag [1].
b) For TCP, bind()-ing to a port within the ephemeral port range means
that no connecting sockets, that is those which leave it to the
network stack to find a free local port at connect() time, can use
the this port.
IOW, the bind hash bucket tb->fastreuse will be 0 or 1, and the port
will be skipped during the free port search at connect() time.
2. Isolate the app in a dedicated netns and use the use the per-netns
ip_local_port_range sysctl to adjust the ephemeral port range bounds.
The per-netns setting affects all sockets, so this approach can be used
only if:
- there is just one egress IP address, or
- the desired egress port range is the same for all egress IP addresses
used by the application.
For TCP, this approach avoids the downsides of (1). Free port search and
4-tuple conflict detection is done by the network stack:
system("sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range='60000 60511'")
s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM)
s.setsockopt(SOL_IP, IP_BIND_ADDRESS_NO_PORT, 1)
s.bind(("192.0.2.1", 0))
s.connect(("1.1.1.1", 53))
# Fails if all 4-tuples 192.0.2.1:60000-60511 -> 1.1.1.1:53 are busy
For UDP this approach has limited applicability. Setting the
IP_BIND_ADDRESS_NO_PORT socket option does not result in local source
port being shared with other connected UDP sockets.
Hence relying on the network stack to find a free source port, limits the
number of outgoing UDP flows from a single IP address down to the number
of available ephemeral ports.
To put it another way, partitioning the ephemeral port range between hosts
using the existing Linux networking API is cumbersome.
To address this use case, add a new socket option at the SOL_IP level,
named IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE. The new option can be used to clamp down the
ephemeral port range for each socket individually.
The option can be used only to narrow down the per-netns local port
range. If the per-socket range lies outside of the per-netns range, the
latter takes precedence.
UAPI-wise, the low and high range bounds are passed to the kernel as a pair
of u16 values in host byte order packed into a u32. This avoids pointer
passing.
PORT_LO = 40_000
PORT_HI = 40_511
s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM)
v = struct.pack("I", PORT_HI << 16 | PORT_LO)
s.setsockopt(SOL_IP, IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE, v)
s.bind(("127.0.0.1", 0))
s.getsockname()
# Local address between ("127.0.0.1", 40_000) and ("127.0.0.1", 40_511),
# if there is a free port. EADDRINUSE otherwise.

When an ULP-enabled socket enters the LISTEN status, the listener ULP data
pointer is copied inside the child/accepted sockets by sk_clone_lock().
The relevant ULP can take care of de-duplicating the context pointer via
the clone() operation, but only MPTCP and SMC implement such op.
Other ULPs may end-up with a double-free at socket disposal time.
We can't simply clear the ULP data at clone time, as TLS replaces the
socket ops with custom ones assuming a valid TLS ULP context is
available.
Instead completely prevent clone-less ULP sockets from entering the
LISTEN status.

Jiri Slaby reported regression of bind() with a simple repro. [0]
The repro creates a TIME_WAIT socket and tries to bind() a new socket
with the same local address and port. Before commit 28044fc1d495 ("net:
Add a bhash2 table hashed by port and address"), the bind() failed with
-EADDRINUSE, but now it succeeds.
The cited commit should have put TIME_WAIT sockets into bhash2; otherwise,
inet_bhash2_conflict() misses TIME_WAIT sockets when validating bind()
requests if the address is not a wildcard one.
The straight option is to move sk_bind2_node from struct sock to struct
sock_common to add twsk to bhash2 as implemented as RFC. [1] However, the
binary layout change in the struct sock could affect performances moving
hot fields on different cachelines.
To avoid that, we add another TIME_WAIT list in inet_bind2_bucket and check
it while validating bind().

We assume the correct errno is -EADDRINUSE when sk->sk_prot->get_port()
fails, so some ->get_port() functions return just 1 on failure and the
callers return -EADDRINUSE instead.
However, mptcp_get_port() can return -EINVAL. Let's not ignore the error.
Note the only exception is inet_autobind(), all of whose callers return
-EAGAIN instead.

Rather than incurring a division or requesting too many random bytes for
the given range, use the prandom_u32_max() function, which only takes
the minimum required bytes from the RNG and avoids divisions. This was

We will soon introduce an optional per-netns ehash.
This means we cannot use the global sk->sk_prot->h.hashinfo
to fetch a TCP hashinfo.
Instead, set NULL to sk->sk_prot->h.hashinfo for TCP and get
a proper hashinfo from net->ipv4.tcp_death_row.hashinfo.
Note that we need not use sk->sk_prot->h.hashinfo if DCCP is
disabled.

This patch adds no functional change and cleans up some functions
that the following patches touch around so that we make them tidy
and easy to review/revert. The changes are
- Keep reverse christmas tree order
- Remove unnecessary init of port in inet_csk_find_open_port()
- Use req_to_sk() once in reqsk_queue_unlink()
- Use sock_net(sk) once in tcp_time_wait() and tcp_v[46]_connect()

The current bind hashtable (bhash) is hashed by port only.
In the socket bind path, we have to check for bind conflicts by
traversing the specified port's inet_bind_bucket while holding the
hashbucket's spinlock (see inet_csk_get_port() and
inet_csk_bind_conflict()). In instances where there are tons of
sockets hashed to the same port at different addresses, the bind
conflict check is time-intensive and can cause softirq cpu lockups,
as well as stops new tcp connections since __inet_inherit_port()
also contests for the spinlock.
This patch adds a second bind table, bhash2, that hashes by
port and sk->sk_rcv_saddr (ipv4) and sk->sk_v6_rcv_saddr (ipv6).
Searching the bhash2 table leads to significantly faster conflict
resolution and less time holding the hashbucket spinlock.
Please note a few things:
* There can be the case where the a socket's address changes after it
has been bound. There are two cases where this happens:
1) The case where there is a bind() call on INADDR_ANY (ipv4) or
IPV6_ADDR_ANY (ipv6) and then a connect() call. The kernel will
assign the socket an address when it handles the connect()
2) In inet_sk_reselect_saddr(), which is called when rebuilding the
sk header and a few pre-conditions are met (eg rerouting fails).
In these two cases, we need to update the bhash2 table by removing the
entry for the old address, and add a new entry reflecting the updated
address.
* The bhash2 table must have its own lock, even though concurrent
accesses on the same port are protected by the bhash lock. Bhash2 must
have its own lock to protect against cases where sockets on different
ports hash to different bhash hashbuckets but to the same bhash2
hashbucket.
This brings up a few stipulations:
1) When acquiring both the bhash and the bhash2 lock, the bhash2 lock
will always be acquired after the bhash lock and released before the
bhash lock is released.
2) There are no nested bhash2 hashbucket locks. A bhash2 lock is always
acquired+released before another bhash2 lock is acquired+released.
* The bhash table cannot be superseded by the bhash2 table because for
bind requests on INADDR_ANY (ipv4) or IPV6_ADDR_ANY (ipv6), every socket
bound to that port must be checked for a potential conflict. The bhash
table is the only source of port->socket associations.
